alex_ncfc 686 Posted October 8, 2008 Just seen that the team will be wearing the 1950s city shirt from our 1959 cup run for the FA Cup 3rd round game this January. A nice touch.Would be good to wear it for the whole cup run but I guess only permission for one match is required!!

Branston Pickle 4,150 Posted October 8, 2008 Nice to see fellow supporters getting into the spirit of things!!Football is sometimes far too tied up in the here and now, with multi-million franchises, to remember that it has a great history and we are part of that with the 59 cup run, so why on earth not do this? IMO there is nothing bad in celebrating/commemorating the past so long as it is done in a decent way - I sometimes cringe at what goes for ''taste'' when I wander about the club shop for example, but to me this is a good (and harmless) idea. And from reading the story, it is only meant to be for one match (and of course we all know it probably would be anyway, even if we were to wear it for our whole ''run''). The Butler 0 Posted October 8, 2008 Better to keep todays shirts and play the 59 team. [*]

Robert N. LiM 6,299 Posted October 9, 2008 Well, that''s a weird experience. And a first. I totally agree with BBB. I wasn''t there at the time, but a Third Division South side reaching the cup semi-final, beating Manchester Utd and Spurs along the way - that''s worth commemorating. And Alex, surely you can see the difference between then and 1989? In 89 we were in the First Division (in the days when First Division meant the first division): reaching the semi-final was an achievement, but not an outlandish one. Of course there will be no commemorative shirts. In 1959 we were a small club, with no history to speak of, who achieved something extraordinary. Who cares that the rest of the country don''t remember? It''s not for them. It''s for us. Clearly lots of people in Norfolk do remember, and even those like me who don''t can sense how special it must have been. That picture in the lounge below the Barclay - is it Bly at White Hart Lane? - gives me goosebumps.Today''s football, with its sheikhs, pampered millionaires, total lack of any kind of level playing field and Tim Fxxxing Lovejoy, is utterly sick. Why not remember a footballing time that was truly joyous?
