Why does he get beaten through the legs time & time again 3 times last nyt and loads last season

I really hope he sorts this out coz he does far to often for my liken

His second half performance was truely embarresing. To be beaten once through the legs (even against quality opposition) is pretty bad but last night was horrendous

Yep definitely a weak link.If a goalie makes himself bigger to put off a striker then it''s a bit stupid to then open your legs wider than the Dartford tunnel! Pretty basic goalie mistakes,needs to be sorted out fast!

To be fair he did pull off 3 really good saves 2nd half. was it bad goalkeeping or good finishing?

am i the only one who thought he had an outstanding game? He pulls off great saves, what do you expect him to do when Premier Strikers are through 1 on 1, he makes himself as big as possible he could quite as easily  end up saving it with his feet as he has done many times last season. please give the guy a break

you not on your own,apart from the one that he should of held i thought he was one of the better players last night,i do think he is the best shot stopper in the league,still young, time to improve other areas

BunnyB you are quite right, he had a brill game last night and he was unlucky with the goals. Anyone who watches football must realise the keeper has to make himself as big as possible, which he has done. Its a game of inches and he was 6 of them on the unlucky side. He is quality and was undone like the rest of the team by seriously superier opposition.

On top of that it as a freindly so I am led to believe.

I thinkhe gets way too hard a time from a lot of people. As an (albeit amateur) keeper, you some times have to make a snap decision about spreading wide as you can to fill the goal or keeping your legs closed, which tends to only really be a possibility when the striker is approaching the goal from an angle, last night''s goals where it went through his legs were all closer than 12 yards and pretty much head on, there''s very little he could do, his only mistake i felt last night was in spilling the shot which led diretly to a goal (think it was the third?). His calling was improved last night (i could hear him from my seat for the first time ever) and if he can work on taking more initiative with his defenders with balls in behind the back four i think by the age of 25, 26 he could be a real class all rounder.

oh and one more thing, there was aone handed save in the first half from a header when he needed to re-adjust mid air and palm the ball away, this was really really a good sign and the sort of save that a lot of people don''t appreciate as it''s not flying through the air 2 meters to your left or right - which are much easier as your reach naturally increases doing this with your momentum. the boy''s alright.

I don''t think anyone doubts his ability to make good reaction saves (he made a few last night) - it''s just that whilst these are impressive he once again let in 5 goals, some of them through his legs.

I like him, but he really needs to do something about keeping his legs together!

Jetstream, you can''t make yourself as big as possible  and keep your legs together you''d either:

fall over or defeat the whole object of being as big as possible, also you are restricting your mobility in such a situation!!

You have two options make yourself big or dive at their feet. David Marshall, like the majority of keepers nowadays, makes him self big. It is impossible to keep your legs shut when you make yourself big. In a one-on-one situation the striker should score the keeper has a very hard job

With the amount of things passing between Marshall''s legs yesterday I''m surprised former Ipswich resident Mr Bent didn''t mistake him for an ''escort'' and start planning somewhere to dispose of the body.
