Inch High aka Inchy.. 417 Posted June 26, 2008 We don''t need a striker to fit in with Jamie C, we need a striker instead of Jamie C.I really hope this club is seriously looking for a decent striker to replace Jamie C or we aint going knowhere.
Hog 0 Posted June 26, 2008 No thanks, from what I saw of him he was very clumsy and slow, I know you have a thing for Cureton Wiz but I would prefer to see a whole new front line, with Jamie retained as a super-sub/squad player.

Camuldonum 0 Posted June 26, 2008 I''ll repeat what I said in another thread - just my opinion, of course. I suppose there could be an element of truth in this as it was Mr Platt who delivered this year''s Jamie Cureton Memorial Lecture pledging undying allegiance to the Mighty U''s despite our relegation to League One.It''s not common knowledge at Colchester but there again our club say even less than your lot - every local paper missed the club captain being shipped out to Plymouth this week. (They really should read the Daily Star). He cost us £300k and we''d be looking to make money on that especially as he is on a two year contract with us. I suspect that if the story is true and one of you makes a decent offer we''d bite your hand off.My doubt about him centres on whether he is really good enough for the Championship but that said everyone on this board has probably seen a player who comes to life with a new club, Manager, regime - equally we''ve seen it happen the other way haven''t we?Downsides are roughly accurate as depicted on here: let down too often by a poor first touch (my opinion) and certainly not the fastest thing on two legs (I thought asthmatic sloth was a tad unkind and anyway who was it who hired Hartson, so there!). Two left feet is also unkind.Upsides? He''s a very big lad who can knock defenders off a ball (and has been sent off for it) and he''s consistently good at winning balls in the air which is hardly surprising as he is 6ft 4" and built like two of those charming Norfolk brick outhouses knocked together. I would prefer him to stay with us as I think he is a good enough League One player and will score at that level. He scored 18 goals for MK Dons and they nicknamed him The Tree. In the interests of balanced reporting I think it only fair to record that some of our supporters (almost certainly the Barside Mob) renamed him The Plank after about half a dozen games but they also booed Sheringham. If you want to splash your new investment money around I wouldn''t be bothered. As long as we get decent cash we can replace him well enough for League One level - perhaps twice over. So the jury is out about Clive I suppose but, there again, it seems another jury is out about Mr Docherty. Such is life

colneycanary 0 Posted June 26, 2008 Sky Sports have reported of our interest in Colchester''s striker Clive Platt.City and Sheffield United are thought to be tracking the former MK Dons and Peterborough hit-man as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.(Source Sky Sports)While only scoring eight goals last season proving to be a handful for most defences in the Championship, he turned out to be the perfect foil for Kevin Lisbe. We asked a Colchester fan of his view of the player.Clive is a targetman first and Fourmost. his game is to hold up the play, bring others into play, he is good in the air, strong, not that fast, but as he proved he causes defences hell of a lot of problems. He gets more than his share of stick from the terraces and a large potion of that is unfair the main trouble being in many fans eyes he was seen a replacement for Iwelumo and anything under his achievement is seen as a failure. Had he had a decent winger putting crosses in the box his goal total would have been far highier.

Ivana_rubyatitz 6 Posted June 26, 2008 If Camul can repeat his post from the other thread on Platt from yesterday then I can do the same:"Please God not Clive Platt - saw him for Peterborough a couple of times and he has the touch of an elephant combined with the pace of an asthmatic sloth. Oh, and he would also struggle to score in a brothel with £50 tucked behind each ear.He would truly be up there with Dean Coney as the most embarrasing "striker" we have ever put on a pitch". This guy is total pants....think cow''s arse, banjo, swing and miss. Avoid like the plague.

Hog 0 Posted June 26, 2008 true, but not at the kind of money that Colchester would be expecting, if they paid 300k and want a decent profit, I say steer well clear.

RustysRevenge 0 Posted June 26, 2008 I saw him quite a lot when he was at MK Dons. Always thought he was the better player in his partnership with McLeod. Obviously not worth paying more than the £300,000 Colchester paid for him but would do a good enough job at this level with the right players around him as a target man & will score a few goals. If we were to go for any of their players though I think we could do a lot worse than Jonnie Jackson. Him or Lee Barnard from Southend.

colneycanary 0 Posted June 28, 2008 More stories linking him with a move to us. Strange one this, as he''s not really done that well at Colchester.Clive Platt is said to be on the verge of a move away from Colchester to Carrow Road.Following on from their brief flirtation with Championship, relegation back into League One has meant that the U''s are facing stern competition for their prize assets. The former Dons striker is said to have attracted interest from Sheffield United and Norwich. Its hard blame Clive the wish to stay in the second tier as he turns 31 this autumn and its likely this could be his last chance to play at that level. The battering ram from Wolverhampton wrote his name in MK Dons history on January 20th 2007 by becomming the first MK Dons player to score a hat trick as the Dons beat nine man Barnet in League Two at the National Hockey Stadium. He was a firm favourite with the Cowshed and no doubts they would relish the chance to sing his name again, even if he was wearing another teams shirt. If he secured a move to Norfolk we could see Clive on August 12th when we face Delia''s boys in the first round of the Carling Cup.He scored 18 goals in the 2006/7 season for the Dons which earned him a move to Layer Road as Col U were promoted to the Championship. He made 41 league appearances last season netting just 8 times.

Maybe he can do a job for you. Personally I''m not entirely convinced that he is Championship standard - League One, yes. His first touch often lets him down and his shooting leaves a lot to be desired. However he is a humungous lump and he wins balls in the air reliably (he''s 6ft 4) and much more so than Iwelumo ever did. The other thing he can do is hold the ball up which is sometimes useful to have. But Iwelumo is in a different class (my opinion) - it was Iwelumo who got your Jamie many of his goals that earned him The Golden Boot. It was Chris who took players with him, took the knocks and clatterings and still managed to get the ball across.Platt can certainly clatter and I imagine it''s like being struck by a steamroller. If he stays with us (and dependent on comings and goings) I''m not even sure he''s guaranteed a start with us. He does give effort but he''s had a section of the crowd on his back because he was brought in in an Iwelumo type role and he''s not the player to do that role. But funny old game, football. Perhaps in a different type of role he could do a job for you even if you only used him for the last 20 minutes. He''s a big bloke and does frighten defenders and I can see a case for having one of those in a squad.
