Jamie Cureton - GO AND GET HIM!!!

Recommended Posts

Lets not let the chance of Jamie coming back slip away.  Aside from the fact that he is a 24 carat gold legend, he was also the Championship''s top scorer last season.  He desperately wants to play for us and last but not least, playing for Norwich ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING TO HIM!!! He didnt have to mute his celebrations when he scored against us last season, he did it out of respect to the fans.  I would rather have him up front than "want away" Earnshaw.  He''s a canary!!!

My gut reaction is the same as yours MoP. Is there just a question over what he can add to our current strike force in terms of type of forward? Bo**ocks, what am i talking about, he''s got experience and brains and he''s a natural goal scorer. Grant goes on about how we can''t keep relying on Earnie, JC would take the pressure off, no question. I''m sure we could get him for £400k or so if we twist Colchester''s arm enough. Come on, we''re on the wrong end of player power most of the time, lets reap some of the benefits! What the player wants they invariably get. Come on Delia, invite Ms Partner down to the restaurant for a little chat!!

I agree... if we can slice the price slightly... i''m certain Cureton would be a good short/medium term solution for us, and a positive for Martin. Jamie''s been a member of the youth setup at Norwich, he knows the club quite well, he''d be settled, he has a point to prove... he''ll be hungry. Yes, you can argue his age, but i really think it could be a good move for us. 750k is a silly price quoted by Colchester mind! We need to slice that dramatically.

I wasn''t sure a few weeks ago, but now I think we definitely should. He obviously wants to play for us, and this was obviously his reason for putting in a transfer request, to get our attention, and he''s also said that Colchester are pricing him out of the market, so he''s obviously very determined to come here. Makes a nice change to see someone want to play for us.

Great Post. I totally agree. He WANTS to play for NCFC and will deliver passion week in and week out as well as scoring goals. He is Norwich through and through and if we don''t sign him it will be a very sad day for our football Club!

whilst id like to see Cureton here and hope that, should he come, he does well i cant help but think back to when we re-signed flecky.

He basically got into the team on sentiment and wasnt the poacher of old... Cureton has done well since leaving us granted but £750,000 on a 32 year old is a hell of a risk! especially as he is approaching the twighlight of his career. the last thing we want to see is a player who is living on past glories (Green hair, goals against the binmen etc) who is getting on the team because he once stood on the shuolders of giants.

Check this extract about Jamie from "Flown from the nest":

In January 2002, Jamie was linked with a move to QPR as he had not been a regular in the Reading side. However he stayed in Berkshire and scored the equaliser in the 20th April clash with Brentford that gave Reading second place in Division Two and promotion. Speculation linked Jamie with a £400k return to Norwich in December 2002 as he was not playing in Reading''s starting eleven. Jamie had hinted earlier in the season that he would not rule out a return to Carrow Road when his contract expires at the end of the 2002/03 season. The media also speculated that Charlton boss Alan Curbishley might make a move for Cureton during the January 2003 transfer window whilst Bolton were also said to be keen.

At the end of the season, he was linked with a move to QPR where he would team again with manager Ian Holloway who had been at Rovers with him. Bristol Rovers are also said to be keen to re-sign Jamie whilst Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is said to be a big fan. Jamie revealed that he also had interest from clubs in Korea and the USA, and he embarked on a trial with DC United - with whom Paul Dalglish had trialled the previous year. Bristol City were the next club said to show an interest in Cureton''s services - possibly as part of a deal that would take one of City''s starlets (Murray or Doherty) to Reading.

Whilst Jamie hoped for contact from Norwich City, whom he described as a "special club, this was not forthcoming. Therefore he opted to sign for his old manager Ian Porterfield who is managing South Korean side Pusan Icons (also Busan Icons). Jamie signed in early July for the Icons an eighteen month contract that will see him through to November 2004. Jamie said that of the offers from English sides there was "nothing to match what has been offered to me in Korea". He described the facilities as Premiership in style and the standard of the game as comparable to the English Division One. Prior to his move, Jamie had scored 139 goals in 365 matches in English competitive football.

The lads on a hot streak - and he''s yellow and green through and through - and passionate.

Sign him. It''s a modest gamble with a huge upside potential.

And the crowd will love him.

I agree with what you''re saying about the dangers of sentimentality in football, Jas, but I don''t think that he''d be getting in the team on sentiment - in my books, he''d be well worth a place in our team simply on the fact that he finished last season as our division''s leading scorer. The fact that he is a City fan is secondary - though I can''t in all honesty say that it isn''t appealing to think of having someone who properly cares about the club on the pitch. But the simple fact is that, all that aside, he is the Championship''s top scorer - I think we''d honestly be a bit mental to turn this down.

If we do get him, lets hope he''s not going to be another Robert Fleck, great the first time round, but god awful on his return..........

Yeah, bring Jamie back. I am not sure will Jamie be better than Earnie (at least last season when you look at the Championship scoring chat is YES!) but the most important thing is, Jamie care about Norwich City, same as what Hucks did.

You would say Billy Sharp will choose us because of the better training ground liked Colney, of Freddy Eastwood choose us because of Wolves did not have enough money to pay Southend United, but Jamie Cureton will choose to play for Norwich City, because he owe and love the club more than anyone, except Hucks.

Well Flecky had failed miserably at Chelsea before returning...  I thought Cureton was last years leading goalgetter in division one??

Oh god.

Here we go [8-)]

You all know my thoughts on Hughes, so I won''t bother repeating them other to say Cureton has 100% more talent than Hughes ever has had or will have!
