Ken Aries 0 Posted May 17, 2007 What do I think of the all-new-and-improved, whiter than white official web site? The word CRAP would sum it up pretty succinctly. I had posted a substantial number of messages on that board over the last couple of years. I suppose I''m not that bothered at being unable now to look back over my old posts, but I''m sure a fair number of regular users must be really quite angry at losing all that history. What a disaster!
alex_ncfc 686 Posted May 17, 2007

I don''t think it''s made by PTV, as it seems to stem away from all the other club sites which use that boring, standard PTV layout (with the left sided menus) so I do think this new version was made by someone at the club. It wouldn''t surprise me because it reflects what''s going on on the field at the moment!!
The URLs are pretty much exactly the same as the old site, which is a dead giveaway for it using the same system. Of course, it could be an in-club graphic design I guess...
Well yeah it''s obviously still involved with PTV as they use them to run the "world" service with their videos and what not, but like you said, the site design could be done by the club. It''s awful and I think they need to go on a course!
As my login causes problems [ :o) ] 0 Posted May 17, 2007 The main reason for my discontent as one of the long established posters on there was entirely the way it was done. As has been said several times above there were some excellent threads up there and some that were still in progress. To lose all these without warning or explanation quite frankly was an own goal in PR terms that someone should actually be disciplined for.The layout of the new site is a problem but as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is good web design and that will ultimately not be the main reason for putting people off. What will is the security aspects: Our real names were displayed without warning on the statistics pages, posts can be edited with only a small double dating to indicate that something has been changed, any file type can be attached and therefore allow porn or viruses to be transmitted, and finally the loss of the post count actually allows imposters to post.If the early stages are anything to go by it will become a chatty meeting place rather than serious discussion on football, and with the dumbing down of the main site will allow the Pink Un site to be the unchallenged "official" place to discuss football issues. jetstream 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Alex - it is a PTV site and message-board (and it is an off-the-shelf one)It would have been better of the Club had carried on using PTV for the site (as they are contracted to do) and provided an in-house messageboard for fans as it is very well used and popular (more so than many other ''PTV'' Clubs if you look at the post count on similar forums for other Clubs)The lack of testing and poor implementation has meant that regular users are having to explain basic features to other users and many (like wiz and yourself) will simply give up on it unless it is sorted out.Whether there is either (a) an appetite and/or (b) the technical know-how to do that I''m not sure. It''s shame as it is a vibrant and fun place to post (as is this on occasions!) Web Team - Vince 0 Posted May 17, 2007
I wonder if the Archant boys are taking notes on this for when they change the Pink''un forum?...
This one is coping fine - it''s just needs tweaking in a lot of places (membership, text box, features, integration, skinning)! The previous ones we used couldn''t handle the volume of messages we were getting across all Archant websites (note that we did transfer old threads and user IDs - apart from when we abandoned the very first one from the last millennium). I don''t run the place, but I think we''d be upgrading to the latest version of Community Server rather than changing to another platform.

As my login causes problems [ :o) ] 0 Posted May 17, 2007 So Pete (Not been offered a football manager job yet then?) and Vince what do you actually think of both the new look site and the new look message board on canaries.co.uk ?Are we in our neanderthal way right or should we just grasp the future? A website should be just that - a website, not an SWF file. Back OT, I can''t understand WHY they''ve changed the website, when there''s no obvious improvements!? Perhaps someone from the media department could explain the reasoning behind it...
I don''t use the message board, but generally too boxy and too much going on,. On the front page there''s not really anywhere to focus on, apart from the news story picture, but then you have to work out what it relates to. There''s nothing wrong with having ads on pages, but having lots of them all over the place takes away the impact you''d have with two or three bigger ones, better positioned. The "story" pages are better that the front page - but I preferred the old look. Holtys revenge 0 Posted May 17, 2007 horrible layout, takes ages to load, too many dodgy ads for online bookies. Not progress, much worse than the old one. I''m staying with pinkun!
alex_ncfc 686 Posted May 17, 2007 Hmm and I thought the whole point of re-launching a site was to have it finished before ''going live''. Yet, as already pointed out, a lot of the links don''t work. And also, we have only 2 players in our Hall of Fame, including Bellamy - spot the mistake...http://www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk/page/HallOfFame/0,,10355~1023742,00.html
