ZLF 335 Posted January 30, 2007
Brought on as sub from bench, lasts 31 minutes.Tactical?Poor managerial decision?Injury?
RIght decisions both times - he has tried WLY and that only leaves Hughes. However the only thing that redeems HUghes for his lack of ability is effort. Tonight his effort level was appalling - WLY looked more interested in his recent games, thats how bad it was.You could criticise Grant for leaving him on too long IMO
Largey 0 Posted January 30, 2007 Depends how he was playin gat the time, but probably, pointless.

Coelho 0 Posted January 30, 2007
Brought on as sub from bench, lasts 31 minutes.Tactical?Poor managerial decision?Injury?
Certainly wasn''t injury judging by his reaction! They should''ve taken Thorne off, stuck Doc up front and gone three at the back IMO. I know Hughes isn''t a quality player, but if you''re in a relegation scrap, he''s the kind of player you can''t afford to ostracise. At least you know he''ll work his guts out, even if he doesn''t have much ability.
essexcanary 0 Posted January 30, 2007 think it was def tacticalhughes did nothin wrong but when we went goal down, he wasnt goin to change the game and didnt really offer alot. he was furious bout being subbed though

Brought on out of position due to injury, taken off (too late) for tactical reasons...I wish Etuhu and Thorne would show a fraction of the commitment and effort he puts in... macdougalls perm 0 Posted January 30, 2007 I think it was cos they went down to 10 men but, to be honest, he almost single handedly destroyed the rhythm we had in the first half.

Huddy 0 Posted January 30, 2007 I have been as big a critic of hughes as any, but lets be fair to the guy, i was there tonight and he played well when he was on. The crowd have started to take too him, and my views toinight were backed up by the chants of ''hughesy, hughesy," when he was taken off. He was much better than etuhu and thorne in particular. Get off his back. We have a squad full of crap, and although he isnt the most technically gifted he shows passion, commitment, and energy - something some players lack. Whats the point in that?
Well if you think we can afford to release all the players in our squad who don''t have a great deal of ability, I''d be interested to see your teamsheet for Saturday! Let''s face it, he''s going to be a part of the squad for at least the remainder of this season, and when he plays, you know he''ll run himself into the ground for the cause. I''d rather we''d have actually signed a proper footballer with that £500k, but we''re going to need him until we have a chance to sort this mess out. Freddy H 0 Posted January 31, 2007 In a way I feel sorry for the guy, he does what Grant asksof him each time one game in midfield, then sub left back, midfield, sub rightback, midfield, sub right wing and tonight sub left wing, tries his best in allthe positions. However he is like a stupid dog, you give him the ball he chases it and bringsit back, you pass it in front of him to run to a different position and he letsthe other dog take it off him. He comes bounding back with a bark (aclap) no more play for you doggie 31 mins is enough, off he goes with his tailbetween his legs. Next time at another park he''s bright eyed and runsaround again in a different way but does the same things again, an old dog thatcan learn no new tricks but with the energy of a puppy. Bless him! I can get you bus loads of ok footballers to run around like nutters for 90 minutes for a couple of pints each. We''d lose 25-0 though.Like the man said. We need footballers and should NEVER have signed him.

We need footballers and should NEVER have signed him.
I don''t dispute that, but we''re now in a situation where we need him for the rest of the season. He''s still one of the most passionate and versatile players at the club, and from now until the end of the season he''s going to be part of the squad whether we like it or not, so we might as well try to give him some support – he''ll never give up the fight, at least!
