1.
Our unimaginative repertoire at both corners and especially free kicks has long been a frustrating thing for me. It''s no wonder we so rarely score from them or even create a clear chance. Jarvis'' delivery last night wasn''t great, but that wasn''t a surprise. I agree with the view that Lappin is currently our best dead ball threat, but it''s hardly enough to mean that he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.  I''d like to see much more variation in set pieces because simply causing uncertainty and confusion in the opposition would lead to more chances and therefore more goals.
Fair enough, but in a badly struggling team (in open play), set-pieces become absolutely vital...So, Lappin (at left back imo) should be one of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment...
 2.
We were talking about this on the way home last night.......for all the excitement they generate, can anybody seriously remember the last time we scored as the direct result of a corner??[8-)]
against Crystal Palace last month
 3. No service only part of the problem really...Because he doesn''t have the pace or  power to exploit balls over the top or into the channels, and isn''t great at finding space and setting others up, or at running with the ball himself, and is clearly no kind of threat in the air either, he contributes very little on his own....so in a struggling side, with few chances being created, he''s a big part of problem..Last night he reminded me at times of the ageing immobile Tony Cotteee, the genius Hamilton brought in...I think front 2 should be Martin dropping off, and someone with pace alongside him up front (Huckerby)...and give them some games together in a solid 442 without constant idiotic tactical meddlings from Grant on the sidelines...might even score a goal  then
 4. Lappin can actually take set-pieces well, and this has often looked about the only source of a goal recently...I''d try to have him in the team somewhere for this reason, probably at left back because he doesn''t seem to have the pace or skill to go past anyone when he plays left midfield, and this just contributes to our woeful lack of attacking options...
 5.
Positives. 1, David Marshall, look very good, with 2 or 3 exceptional saves, rushed out a couple of times, but seems very good. 2, Chris Brown, looked lively, hungry, and played very well, and was most effective striker last night, i think he looks most likely to partner Cureton. 3, Darel Russell looked very good, very energetic, and used ball well. 4, Jon Otsemembor, comfortable on the ball, and looked promising going forward, not convinced of his defending yet. Negatives. 1, Thought the defence looked very suspect, need a experienced commanding centre half in urgently. 2, Not really a negative, but as suspected going to take David Strihavka quite a while to adapt to the english game, showed some nice touches. 3, The Youssef Safri situation, I would be very sad to see Youssef go as i believe he is a class above most of the players in the championship, and our best ball player by a mile, however if he does not want to be here, we must let him go, but as Peter Grant said, on our terms not his.   All in all, not a bad performance considering key players missing, but i think the need for a new centre half is so very obvious.
Very fair assessment Penguin. Otsemobor could prove to be a fantastic addition and provide a much needed attacking threat down the right at last, so not everything has to go left through Hucks all the time. Croft was lively too, and looked lighter. Brown could be the big revelation of the season. Maybe Chadwick could play as attacking centre-midfield alongside Brelllier, and there is plenty of cover in most areas, except centre back.
 6. Russell has clearly improved though since his departure, and 600k seems ok for a regular first choice player at another Championship club
 7.
true Salahuddin.  Im sure u have reaad my opinion of Etuhu on here.. wonder how many will agree with me now? from day 1 he didnt give a gnats chaff about us. jas :)
I think its a very good price for an ultimately frustrating player. Hard to see him setting the Premiership alight, unless Roy Keane consistently gets a whole lot more out of him than was shown here...
 8.

Sorry, I don''t see the logic in your comparison...Hughes Jarrett Colin and Thorne were certainly all poor replacements, but as I said in my post, I think the issue is about how we REPLACE Safri and Etuhu, and the board need to show ambition in how they spend the money... The news today that Etuhu was actually offered a new improved contract at the weekend, presumably to fend off Sunderland''s interest, also demonstrates how with a release clause, there is not much the club can do if the player wants to leave... In strictly financial terms I think the club have got good money for both of them, BUT it needs to be SPENT!
Ok huck tastic, to be honest i used your post to make a more general point that going by the last few years there is little evidence that adequate replacements will be brought in. People seem to assume that the signings made since Earnie`s departure are great but the only "given" i would say is Marshall. The jury is still very much out on the others. The club has been saying since relegation that all transfer proceeds are re-invested in the team but quite simply, it`s a lie. The club are millions up on transfers in that period and the last accounts actually show a transfer profit of £3million. Why should we suddenly expect it to change?
Yep, that''s fair comment, Mr Carrow. Let''s hope that better players than Etuhu and more reliable players than Safri come in as replacements.
 9.

The point is when your star player comes out with a rant, something is wrong, do you really believe all fees will be put back into team building, you got more chance of Lord Lucan winning the Grand national on Arkle.
Exactly Ricky. Some people can''t seem to see the wood for the trees. Something is seriously wrong in the camp. Its obvious to some of us that there is no direction or planning. The club are simply reacting to events that are spinning out of control.
But in the case of Etuhu, (and I think it''s a good price anyway), what else could the club do? They tried offereing him a new improved contract, and he turned it down...Providing ALL of the money is given to Grant to restrengthen, I don''t see how criticism of THIS DEAL is valid...
