Our Best XI

Recommended Posts

What is our best XI when everyone is fit and playing well? For me:

Gunn

Stacey

Hanley

Duffy (big backtrack from me)

Giannoulis

Nunez

Sara

Rowe

Sainz

Barnes

Sargent

My only minor amendment might be Sorenson as a no.6 and then move Nunez to no.8 and Sara to replace Barnes.

Your selection would get my vote. Although I'd be not too upset with either Dimi or McCallum depending who was in-form, looked good/hungry in training.

No left footed CB is another concern but that pairing over Gibson

Gunn

Stacey

Duffy

McLean

Giannoulis

A CDM

Nunez

Sara

Rowe

Sainz

Sargent

That would be a pretty decent first 11, albeit with minimal threat off the bench. Heavily contingent on signing a decent CDM which is about as likely as dropping a ball-bearing out of a jumbo jet at 30,000 feet and it landing on an egg sandwich.

Was just about to type this, thanks. Not sure I would have come up with exactly the same metaphor but it would have been something with similar odds.

I'd be tempted to play Kenny instead of Nunez against the top teams. I know that would mean we'd have to play a CB at CB, but hey, I'm a maverick.

...a tad worried about him at CM though after last night....  where was he for their goal, think he might of gone home when the Hull fans mass exited after Faasnacht netted.

Seriously though, just watch his reaction in the moments before the Hull guy scored.   Where's he going?    That's not a CDM in any shape or form... check out Watford's first goal also, where's he going there?   He's still running away from the ball, instead of closing down the space.

Right now, we don't need a best team, we need a capable developing team for next season

The best capable teams in my opinion is

                                    Gunn

Stacey    Hanley / Duffy    Warner    McCallum

                                   Gibbs

 Rowe         Sara                   Nunez     Sainz

                                 Sargent

Might even try

                                Gunn

       Warner     Hanley / Duffy    McLean

                                  Gibbs

Stacey                                                McCallum

Rowe             Sara           Nunez / Sainz  (but play Nunez deeper and central)

                                 Sargent

Mine would be

                         Gunn

Stacey. Duffy McLean. Gianoullis

               Sorensen       Sara

   Rowe.         Nunez.      Sainz

                      Sergeant

I am no great McLean fan but the goals against column has improved since he went to that position and he has done well

Sorensen is a CDM and I believe is fit again. He must play until someone better is bought- he played well there with Sara (till he got injured again).

Believe Dimi offers more than McCallum going forward although it’s a tight decision.

The front 4 pick themselves. I see no room for Barnes in this system and like many do not see what he offers the team apart from hard work and experience

Looking at that team it strikes me that 5 or 6 of them would walk into every other team in the Championship. We're getting close, but at the moment no cigars I'm afraid.
