YGB 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Ive been meaning to post this for a while did anyone watch the west ham vs bolton game on wednesday? di anyone noticed how poor deano looked I thought he was shocking and no where near 7 million pounds worth it doesnt look like he has any confidence and he also looked unfit. Maybe it wasnt such a bad deal after all.

AJ 1,358 Posted March 18, 2006 i found it quite funny how he rarely got the ball aswellWest Ham, on three occasions (twice first, once second half i believe) had they have passed the ball to Ashton, he would easily have scored! It proves West Ham are too cocky for their own good, and too greedy. Whereas here, Ashton saw most of the ball while player, the only time Ashton saw the ball really was when someone HAD to pass to him, or when it was in the air, even West Hams set pieces were not based around Ashton, i had to laughGoodbye Ashton, looks like you made the wrong choice after all!*chuckles*
Chris Meadows 0 Posted March 18, 2006 he still isn;t fit and is off pace, a good pre-season and he will be firing next year
Andy Field 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Yes, the wrong choice - the ambitious mid table premier side with a dynamic manager, over the prudent mid table championship side with Nigel "commitment of the players was first class" Worthington.
Northern Canary 0 Posted March 18, 2006 i very much doubt he has made the wrong decision. He has already scored a few goals, and they play MUCH better football than Norwich do.
Rudolph Hucker 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Ashton admits he has trouble keeping his weight down and his fitness up. I wonder what Pardew''s attitiude to him will be if he fails to maintain his conditioning?
The Great Drinkell 51 Posted March 18, 2006 Look at some his touches, and did you notice when west ham were playing well Deano was involved, and when Deano was second best so were West ham.A steal at £7M.
whoareyou? 0 Posted March 18, 2006 His fitness and apparent unwillingness to get too involved could be his undoing. He needs to make his presence felt much more than he does. As Pardew said at the time, they have paid over the odds for him for where he is at now but he has the ability to be much better. Whether mentally he can do it is another matter.Only time will tell. nycanary 1 Posted March 18, 2006 sounds like a whole load of sour grapes from this board. deanohas scored, what, 14-15 goals this season between both teams? howcan you argue with that? for me, he''s looked excellent for thehammers and i think the key difference is that his intelligence is nowrewarded when surrounded by excellent, motivated, well-trainedteam-mates. his off the ball running is superb. his hold-upplay and distribution has been quality. his runs and positioningplay in the box has also been very very good. but those skillsonly really show up when you have team-mates that understand how to dotheir part.west ham paid a full price but they have got themselves a big englishcentre forward who will get better and better as time goes on.we should all wish him the best and admire him from afar in the same way that most crewe fans reacted when we picked him up. whoareyou? 0 Posted March 18, 2006 I do wish him the best but i think £7 million for him was too much money. He has tremendous ability but next time he is on the tv, watch him when the oppostion have the ball, he looks like he cannot be bothered and seems unwilling to chase lost causes. I always thought that was his weakness for us too. If he wants to be an England player he needs to improve that side of his game dramatically.
0ridgemanddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted March 18, 2006 I felt Ashton looked far more comfortable with the ball played to his feet but we must remember that if Earnshaw needs time to adjust to Norwich City methods Ashton also needs time to adjust as he has only played hoofball for the last season. Crazy Eddie 0 Posted March 18, 2006 The point of this thread is Ashton was bad against Bolton. He was, hewas shocking, he was panting from minute 1, his touch was abysmal, hispassing wayward, and his team mates obviously weren''t confident givinghim the ball. YGB 0 Posted March 19, 2006 Thanks eddie you are exactly right that was the point i was making. There is no sour grapes about it i wish deano all the best for his time at west ham.
