BroadstairsR 2,168 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) I find this a bit amusing and a bit of a snub, as the local gentry were once quite keen that the place should become Ipswich City, and put some effort into it. Now that the honour has been bestowed upon tiny but nice Colchester, whilst previously it has been given to both Chelmsford and Southend, makes it seem like Her Maj. has something against the town by gradually surrounding it with Cities, whilst ignoring its own claims. We have Cambridge City too and also, of course, that vastly more important, sophisticated and footballing centre of excellence that sits some forty miles to the North. Align this with the failure of the football club in its efforts for Cat. 1 status and its consistently dismal efforts at getting promoted from League One, and you have to wonder why the backwater boys still seem to think that they are a force to be noticed in the footballing world. Blimey, only a few posts in and they are already talking about us. Bit odd though, I know education is not a valued subject in Ipswich but they are claming that Colchester have won a trophy more recently than us seemingly forgetting you win a trophy for promotion, and then going on about how our biggest achivement was losing in Europe while ignoing our 2x efl cup wins.
