Big O 287 Posted October 6, 2020 Has anyone else noticed the amount of transfers or loan deals that seemed to fall through in this transfer window and just how many clubs have struggled to get rid of unwanted players. There also seems to be a rise in players with no chance of playing at their current club not going anywhere. An example would be Marcus Rojo at Utd, or dembele at Barcelona. It does feel like there needs to be some intervention around agents as it feels like wages have been driven to a level where players will not move and other clubs can’t afford. Michael Starr 571 Posted October 7, 2020 Very few clubs want to "splash the cash" right now. Of course there are exceptions, but far fewer than normal. Even the bigger clubs are trying to sign players on loan deals rather than outright.

Well the problem is a huge drop in revenue due to lost gate receipts and associated commercial revenue obviously, clubs have less to spend and big holes in their finances to fill. Barcelona will lose £181m in revenue this season, that's money they need to find by cutting costs and selling players! Its also why they didn't have £30m to buy Max Aarons. There are four England internationals without a club and none of them are old....surely completely unheard of? Nathanial Clyne (29) Daniel Sturridge (31) Jack Wilshere (28) Danny Welbeck (29) There are so many free agents out there that we're going to seriously to struggle to shift Trybull, Leitner and Drmic, and if we do shift them we certainly can't be expecting a fee - I'd consider a loan with option to buy more likely. Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted October 7, 2020 In the context of this i wonder what discussions have been had between the Government and the PL. The PL are the only ones with any money whilst the league are in a very unhealthy position. There is not unreasonably an expectation that the PL help with the problem, it is obscene for them to be spending tens of millions on new players and hundreds of thousands a week on wages. I expect the PL to be persuaded to pay out several hundred million to help the football pyramid. I suspect they have been told to come up with a voluntary plan and if they do not then they will be hit with significant one off taxes to help the less fortunate. This obviously means that there will be less in the coffers to put into transfers hence the lower activity. Against this background we are fortunate to have made a couple of quite lucrative sales so for the next few years our future is in our hands

I think what the poster meant by highlighting these guys is that it seems crazy that they don't have a club.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted October 7, 2020 Alas at the moment few if any clubs in the championship and below will be splashing out on big transfer fees or wages. by the same token with all those clubs tightening their belts they will not risk the highly paid , injury prone has beens, many of which will find it hard to get any club unless they accept much much lower salary demands or pay as you play deals until they prove their fitness
A Load of Squit 6,260 Posted October 7, 2020 This one seems bonkers but then it is Talksport! West Ham United were so desperate to sign Chelsea's England defender Fikayo Tomori, 22, on loan that they offered to pay the Blues £50,000 every time he did not play for the Hammers - but the deal still collapsed. (Talksport) Those kinds of deals are relatively common with loans - some teams insist on a penalty fee if the player does not play. Liverpool certainly do. Tetteys Jig 851 Posted October 7, 2020 Maybe we should try low ball for Rojo if the championship is now his only option... 10% of his wages, take it or leave it...

Yes BobLoz3 is correct. Its just unusual that there would be so many high profile free agents at the moment, and perhaps an indicator of just how f*cked the football economy is right now. For Championship standard players you've got people like Jackson Irvine, Ryan Shotton, Andy King, Kieron Freeman, etc etc. And who remembers Yaya Sanogo of Arsenal, free agent at 27. I was just making the point that its insane how many decent players are out there for £0 right now, which is why we were always going to shift the likes of Leitner and Trybull in this window at least, when there are countless players of equal quality without a club.
