The Raptor 1,573 Posted October 5, 2020 Surely the most random story of the day. Arsenal mascot Gunnersaurus is set to be let go as part of 55 redundancies announced by the club in August. Can he play Centre Back? Did I imagine it or did he come to Carrow Road a few years and have some kind of dance off or race with Captain Canary at half time? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54424259
FenwayFrank 2,716 Posted October 5, 2020 Another example of everything wrong with football, appalling stuff from Arsenal
Michael Wynless Jones 161 Posted October 5, 2020 Genuinely surprised club mascots are on the pay roll, thought it was a voluntary position
Alex Moss 2,167 Posted October 5, 2020 They can’t find a single person that would do it in exchange for being able to watch a free game of football? Jeez even I’d do it for that. Shocking.
Branston Pickle 4,145 Posted October 5, 2020 Yup - the idea that this is/was a salaried position has rather astounded me!
FenwayFrank 2,716 Posted October 5, 2020 Don’t forget that mascots aren’t just for match day, they do school visits and other stuff too

Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,615 Posted October 5, 2020 On a serious note though, you could probably pay all these 55 redundant staff for about three or four years on the annual salary of either Ozil or Aubameyang. Unfortunately it's the harsh reality of football nowadays, but it probably explains why fans and top flight footballers just can't relate to each other nowadays. Players earn in a year (for top players, a month) what most fans earn in a lifetime, and footballers have no idea what it's like to be an adult in the real world.

wcorkcanary 4,781 Posted October 6, 2020 What percentage of their salary would the Arsenal players have to give up to secure the employment of the 55? Not much , I'd wager. Heartless bunch of selfish , greedy conts. A small gesture that would mean a lot, but no, they need every penny they earn. Nice. Class.

TBF, unless they're asked the question, it's a bit harsh to criticise them for a theoretical refusal. It's like accusing Todd for a meltdown based on Farke saying his head isn't in the right place. I feel that way about the Arsenal players yet dont think Todd's had a meltdown.... make of that what you will.

Classy The argument they'll use is that the club has to remain competitive, so it is essential to continue strengthening the team. Not saying I agree mind you.
