Making Plans 957 Posted February 20, 2020 OK so it's the rules in La Liga but it still ain't right unless it applies everywhere. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51570136
Herman 11,136 Posted February 20, 2020 "How long is he out for?" "4 months." "Make it 5 months 1 day" "Yes boss." Play the rules. It stinks.
Alex Moss 2,167 Posted February 20, 2020 So in effect, if a Spanish side fancy strengthening their side prior to a Champions League semi final for instance, they can? WTAF? That really isn’t on at all, what an absolute joke.
The Raptor 1,573 Posted February 20, 2020 The team they got him from are in the relegation zone and cant replace him. He might have kept them up. Ridiculous rule.
Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,220 Posted February 20, 2020 Two things come to mind, why has a club of the stature of Barcelona not got strength in depth, and what does it say about their famed academy if there is no one in their "B" team or academy that can step up to the first team....... This. In theory the rule they used is open to any club, this isn’t about big club bias. But there’s no corresponding right for the club who loses a player (every player in Spain has a buyout clause, so the ‘selling’ club has no say in the matter) to buy in turn. Barcelona chose to sell two strikers in the transfer window, they should be the ones who suffer the consequences of that.
lake district canary 4,830 Posted February 20, 2020 Good danish name "Martin Braithewaite".....and what does that say about Pulis not being able to use a player now plying his trade at Barcelona.......
Molly Windley 76 Posted February 20, 2020 It`s their league, they can set their own rules, do not see a problem with it. He cannot play in any UEFA competition "The rules allowing Barcelona to sign the 28-year-old stipulated the player they brought in must be a free agent or already playing in Spain and that they can not play in Uefa competition." Doesn’t mean it’s not a stupid rule though.
Mason 47 1,923 Posted February 20, 2020 The controversy is that the Spanish FA are said to have denied Leganes' request to sign an emergency replacement under the same terms. I'd say we would probably be livid if that happened to us. 2

Aggy 944 Posted February 21, 2020 The other problem in Spain is that they have release clauses. If it was Man Utd or Spurs coming in for Pukki now, we’d tell them where to go. Braithwaite has a release clause of (I think) 15 mil, so the club can’t refuse it. That’s what swings it in favour of big clubs. If there were no release clauses, chances are Barca would only be able to go out and get a back up player who wasn’t needed or a shorter term loan. Chances are a smaller club would probably bring in a loanee anyway (because that’s more cost effective for them than triggering a high release clause as injury cover), so it would be much fairer. With the release clauses though, perhaps the rule ought to be limited to loaning someone in?
