  1. Thank you for all the match suggestions and for making the final choices easier.   With 36 weeks of the season gone it is difficult to ignore the league tables Nutty produces each week.  I have tried to pay due regard to the successes of certain PuPs over the season but I was also keen to select popular picks and two in particular attracted more votes than others.  Finally, I’ve also sought to make the potential winnings reasonable (odds quoted are William Hll). So my picks are:   Popular picks 16/4       12.30                    Bolton v Middlesbrough – AWAY WIN – 1/3                                              (Vindo, jb, Graham Humphrey, Feedthewolf & Hissing Sid) 16/4       15.00                    Man Utd v Aston Villa – HOME WIN – 1/4 (Yankee Canary, Vanwink, Cityangel, CrabbyCanary)   Strangely higher odds 16/4       15.00                    Accrington v Morecambe – HOME WIN – 8/15                                              (Mr Angry)           16/4       15.00                    Cheltenham v Halifax – HOME WIN – 4/9                                              (Lessingham Canary, also 2nd in both tables)   League table picks 17/4       13.30                    Zira v Khazar Lankaran – HOME WIN – 2/7                                              (93Vintage, 1st in profitability table) 17/4       17.00                    Fenerbahce v Mersin – HOME WIN – 2/13                                              (TIL1010, 3rd & 4th in tables, Purple Canary)   Norfolkbroadslim – sorry but TIL’s odds were marginally better than the Zagreb home win (1/10) and I hope I don’t regret that choice.   Thanks again to everyone for their good wishes and help with the match picks.
  2. Nigel,   Thank you for the kind introduction and the opportunity to take part in selecting the final six.  As you say my inability to consistently pick draws or away wins means I have little chance of finishing in the top 40 but, occasionally, there are some longer odd bets that are worth a go.  I too hope you’re right about the open pledges as these will mean more points for us.   Your photo reminds us that we shouldn’t take liberties with the match bets and PuPs can be reassured that I won’t be including any of my ideas in the final six.  So I will be wholly relying on your suggestions and hope to make my pick on Friday evening (before 9pm) so any suggestions before then will be considered for the final selection.   That said, it would be nice to have a reasonable pot to aim at so I’ll be grateful for all your ideas.   Whilst I won’t be using this, my pick is Everton-Southampton draw, at 23/10. For the Norwich bet, I’m going for 0-0 at 8/1.
  3. Good luck LC & Parma.Bournemouth to win away at Villa (23/20).Palace/Norwich draw (12/5).
  4. I was going to say try Dave, that has lots of old programmes, but didn''t think it would be that helpful.
  5. The Willie Thorne club on Granby street opened after I''d left I think. What with the Prohibition becoming the Fan Club which you referenced, you must be a youngster Bor!
  6. I was here ''77-''80 so a £5 special sounds a bit rich for me.Our Indian of choice after a night out was the Koh-I-Noor, just by the station.Don''t know about the Fan club or Zoots - did go regularly (on free tickets) to the Prohibition Club on New Walk (supposedly linked to the Krays) and The Magazine (where I met Michael Foot).
  7. Several years ago a teacher at my son''s junior school (who was a niece of Tony Pulis) arranged a visit to Stoke City, including a midweek game (against Sunderland).Pulis met the school contingent, took them round the training ground and made sure all the star players came out to meet the children.  Whatever you think of him, this was a real treat for the children and it was good that he didn''t try and fob them off with a few fringe players.Bor - I like coleslaw as well.  You''ve mentioned you went to Leicester Uni (as I did) & your enjoyment of the Redfearn (as I did as well) - when were there and have you been back recently?  You wouldn''t recognise the Percy Gee nowadays.
  8. Good luck DD, FTW and all.Everton - Arsenal to draw (at 13/5).Klose to score, (at 14-1) though like PC I was tempted by the score first (or last) odds of 40/1.
  9. Though I don''t deny it had an impact, I''m always confused by the response to the Newcastle game,  We lost 6-2 but hit the woodwork three times and at least two of Newcastle''s goals were just down to rank bad play by Norwich defenders. After the Sunderland game we had the following:Southampton - a poor performance but Whittaker''s inane red card after 30 minutes didn''t help;Liverpool - a point well earnedWest Ham - should have been 3 points but a goal in injury time after a daft Tettey foul;Newcastle - see aboveMan City - lost and whilst they were always better, we could have got a point but conceded in the 89th minute;Chelsea - second best but only 1-0;Watford - 2-0, a no-show;Man Utd - good 3 points;Spurs - poor performance;Stoke - competitive for an hour, despite O''Neill''s red card after 30 minsBournemouth - a poor performance;Villa - a very poor performance;Leicester - a late goal in 89th minuteSwansea - another poor performance, though only 0-1It''s only Watford, Spurs, Bournemouth, Villa & Swansea that have really let us down in that sequence.Good game management would have yielded another 2 points at West Ham, a point at Man City and maybe a point at Leicester and who knows what might have happened at Southampton & Stoke without the red cards after 30 minutes in each game.
  10. Good luck Statto, Cosmic Twin and everyone else.I''m not sure how the end-of-season possibilities will affect PL teams in the FA Cup but, after last week, I''ve got to go for another away win for West Ham (3/1) at Man Utd.For the Norwich bet, Redmond to score anytime (19/5).Nutty, I''ll be very happy to do 16th April & thanks for asking.
  11. If I''m being pessimistic/realistic I can see us getting another 9 points:Man C 0WBA 1Newcastle 1Palace 1Sunderland 3Watford 1Arsenal 0Man U 1Everton 1However, on a similar review I can see Newcastle & Sunderland on 30 points & Villa on 19.Not sure why I think we''ll beat Sunderland but only draw against Newcastle & clearly if the results went the other way round it wouldn''t be good news.Whatever, I think we or anyone else won''t need the 38-40 points than is normally cited to stay up this year,
  12. I had asked that question when I first suggested the bet - but in a 1-0 game the scorer has to be the first and last.  Presumably they need not be mutually exclusive unless it is specifically stated that they are.  But I''m still not sure.
  13. Thanks Nutty, but 8/27 says it all.Mind you, I think there''s a few on the forum that would be happy with 8/27 rather than 1/27......
  14. Platonic,I''m so sorry that I beguiled you into an outrageous 90/1 bet on Russell Martin though, as it turned out, betting on a 1-0 result wasn''t as daft as it seemed just that it went the wrong way and with the wrong player!!!Glad to see your other bets paid dividends and, if you you get the chance in the future, ignore my tips altogether,Though West Ham away at Everton wasn''t such a bad call after all .......... just saying.
  15. Good luck GMF, Platonic and all the other PuPs.This Saturday is my mother''s 90th birthday so I''m trying to pick those odds that have a 90 somewhere amongst them. Therefore my match pick is: West Ham to win away at Everton at 18/5 (ie 18 x5 = 90)For the Norwich game I''m going for Russell Martin to score the first and last goals at 90/1 (I assume that works with a 1-0 win?).
  16. Interesting to see on MotD that Vardy''s scuffed touch took the ball away from Bennett and therefore left an open goal for Ulloa.  I had thought Bennett should have cleared the ball but I can now see why it eluded him.In real time, and being at the opposite end of the pitch these nuances passed me (and I think everyone else) by.Still, it was good to see us play so well and Leicester''s late goal isn''t going to be the thing that relegates us, if indeed we do go down.
  17. Good luck everyone, especially Norfolkchance1 and Kathy Chelsea to win away at Southampton (currently 13/8)HT/FT - Draw/Norwich (currently 11/1)
  18. I''ve not read through all the pages but, as an away season ticket holder, we don''t seem to be offered the £19 option - why is that?We have to pay £20 for the right to get away tickets (at face value) and I assumed that was an administrative fee. Some of it may go the Academy .......
  19. Bamford clearly impressed when Middlesbrough beat us at Carrow Road last season.I wasn''t there and don''t recall what formation Middlesbrough used against us - can anyone tell me please?
