    Possible postponement

Given your proximity to the game it's potential cancellation may not have been an issue to you. Would you have felt the same if it was a 400-mile round trip?

    Storm Dennis

Thanks again. I have travelled over to Norfolk for several home games only to be waylaid for family reasons so I'm just looking forward to a clear run without mishap.

    The Brexit Thread

Actually I have been listening to an interview with Karen Pierce, the new UK Ambassador to the US, who said she joined the FO in 1981 and was involved in trade negotiations with Japan in her early years. The UK didn't cede trade negotiations responsibilities to the EU until later in our EU membership (I'm not sure when precisely). Much of the abdication of activities is overdone - the EU absolute control isn't as old as our EEC membership.

OK, so when did Man C call off the game? Was it close to kick-off or several hours in advance? I'd be leaving just before midday for a 5.30pm kick off (earlier than absolutely necessary to guarantee parking at County Hall). Btw, when are Man C planning to play their postponed game?

Joking aside, and for those of us that face a considerable journey to home games, is there really any chance that the game might be called off if winds are 50 mph?

    Spurs tickets

VW -j ust tried it and there are tickets available (I can't make it though).
  8. Stiepermann was my favourite player last year. He had a couple of relatively straightforward chances to score at Anfield in the opening game and if one of those had gone in I'm sure his performances this year would have been better. I certainly don't think too much faith was shown after his performances last year.

    Leeds

****, I thought they'd get at least a draw at Forest (for the PuPs predictions), especially after two losses.
  11. In haste, Leeds to draw at Forest. Too late for BTTS. Good luck everyone.

Either way I'm not sure there is much future in many car manufacturing jobs as we move from the internal combustion engine (ICE) to all-electric cars. "UBS reported that 58 percent of all German automotive manufacturing employment is dependent on ICE production."

Ah, so they didn't withdraw the veto they just reduced the areas where the veto was applicable.

Thought (Lisbon) allowed QMV after 2014 rather than national veto (Nice) other than for taxation issues. Genuine apologies if I'm wrong Herman.

And a very happy Brexit to you too VW. As is the tradition, I've inserted an euro coin into my Champagne cork in the hope that whilst it stays put we will remain outside the EU.

Oh but that isn't so, as you well know. All other members, apart from Germany, have over the period paid less than the benefits they've received. Hence their happiness to forsake sovereignty for economic well-being. Re USA, you're right we don't need to leave EU to export successfully. However, we do need to leave EU if we are to trade optimally with the growing economies of the 21st century.

Interesting that you blame UK consumers or UK governments for the EU trade imbalance and the excessive fees we paid the EU. Our largest single export market is USA - without a trade agreement. We can't be that bad, can we?
  22. Good luck everyone. West Ham to draw with Brighton at 23/10; and Nowich to win 2-0 at 14/1.

    The Brexit Thread

In the '80s we effectively shut down our coal, steel and shipbuilding industries along with 80% of our manufacturing base. In the '80s & '90s privatisation of telecomms, gas, electricity and water led to massive job losses in these industries. Yet now all that pain seems like a price worth paying and the economy has recovered from its dire state in the '70s. I am confident that leaving the EU will seem like a tea party compared to what we experienced 30-40 years ago. I have faith that we have the capability to embrace the new opportunities that will arise though I accept the transition will be difficult for some. Peter Bone said in Parliament yesterday that over the course of our membership of the EU we have paid 'net' £200+ billion to the EU for the benefit of allowing them to export £100m pa more to us than we exported to them. "That was not a good deal". So I have toasted Brexit already today with a couple of beers and I am now about to open some Champagne to prove that I'm an Europhile if not an EUphile.

    Klopp being a tw*t

I think Klopp is a real star and we are lucky to have him in the EPL. If you get upset by the demotion of the League Cup or the FA Cup then I'm afraid, sadly, that you're Luddites that misunderstand that it is the EPL or the ECL that is where the action is nowadays. Our quaint old cup competitions (and the League Cup really isn't that old) are now marginalised. That said, a good run in the FA Cup would do us no harm.
