1.
Just another note. What is your average salary there? Because rvw earns around 50 to 60 k pounds per. Month. All other leagues. France, spain, germany have by far greater. Salaries...
If I remember right it was around 20k per week plus bonuses few years back in premier league. Our current high wagers should be somewhere around 30k per week I think? (Bassong and Holt) Would guess Wolf would get quite much same deal.
2. Kuyt - Winger (can play striker if needed, but havent seen him there in ages) Van Persie - Sriker Robben - Pure winger Lens - Plays mostly as second striker or winger in PSV, but can play striker well Schaken - Winger who can play offensive middlefielder or second striker Ola John - Pure Winger Lens is probably only one with van Wolfswinkel who could be competing for that 4th place, but when they need clean striker in the team I bet Wolf is before Lens. Heh also did you notice they were second in WC? They had longer undefeated record than Spain in any national game run before that. Their EC didnt go as planned, but that happens sometimes for the best of the teams too. Manchester City is second in mighty Premier League and dropped out in group stage of champions league. Previouse year same thing when they won the league. Their material is wider than Argentina''s. Brazil has same kind of material, but their world class players are not up to it yet. Netherlands are at least in same level with these two Portugal and Italy in their good day. Only teams front of these are Spain and Germany. It is ignorance to say they are not one of the top teams in the world and only slight margins drifts these teams. National ring means players who train or are selected in the training games. National squad is the one who plays the real games. Targets I have heard: Weimann, Mackie, Hooper and Graham. Thought Graham moved already and not sure if Mackie was a real deal or just rumour talk. Also there is always that one guy from championship who is rumoured for us ^^ Mackail-Smith if I remember right.
3. I have written about this issue so many times, but lets just say again these few things for Not Nigel. I never said he is better than what we have. I said he is bit different what we have and the difference comes from where and what he has learned and we could use that difference more than we could use Hoopers gifts. I dont know if he does well as Holt or Kamara has done, but his odds are quite much better than for example Becchios, who is just too slow for being alone there in 5-2-3-1 and our middlefield doesnt have enought quality to support attack in 4-4-2 to take it in to his comfort zone. Also for saying there is 12 strikers before him for dutch team is like saying that Hoolahan Pilkington and Snodgrass are front of Becchio for our lone striker position. To be fact he is in line 4th or 5th to play dutch main striker position. Van Persie, Huntelaar, Luuk De Jong are clearly front of him in pickings, but cant name anyone else that would play front spot for them. Players like Afellay, Elia, Lens, John etc are wingers or offensive middlefielders. They compete from those three spots behind striker. Not that this would matter anything else than that he cant be that poor if he gets in dutch national ring. I think what the twitter guy said on the front page is quite much true. He probably wont be next van Nistelrooy, but he will be decent player. I wouldnt pay 12 millions from him and I think there is better players out there with less money involved, but I trust Hughton and McNally knows what he is doing. Guy has eye for goal, he has good touch and enough creativity to make himself worth of that cash and if we sign him only time will tell how he will fit. He certainly seems better than other names currently linked for us.
4. Holt kept his body on the ground when trying to get ball. It was always going to be yellow. We would see red almost in every game if that was anywhere near red. It just looked worse than it was becouse big man went for the ball against goalie who throw his body on the way, I personaly have never seen red from those situations and sometimes player has really had no chance to get for the ball. In this case Holt even got it out of keepers hands.
5. Feel totally robbed by ref.. Bunn''s red and that missed penalty were very poor calls. Great game thought from our side. We would have deserved victory from this game with that performance. Solid and good football.
6. cornish sam: Sometime I wonder why I am here, but some posters and the fact this is only active Norwich forum keeps me here and also this is only place for me to learn what club related people do and say and get local rumours as our club''s "news" dont be on the front page of goal.com or finnish radio ( and non other media to be fact) wont broadcast anything related the club. Anyway good if someone gets something out of my ramblings. signupcarrowroad: First of all I ment players that are sold from that league to other clubs. Hulk, Witsel, Coentrao to name few. Yes ofc Ligue 1 has Hazard and Remy etc, but Ligue Primeira is known of developing players near their prime and league has to have some quality to do so and make them do well in big leagues. Second get your facts straight. They have 3 big clubs there. Benfica, Porto and Sporting. Braga is quite new and they havent had constant success and if I dont remember wrong they have never won the league. Dont have now time to wiki about it, but you can correct me, if I''m wrong. Also they have been constantly front of Eredivisie and Russian League for example thought russians are probably going front of them soon because of oligarks and just behind Ligue 1. For a tinpot league it is quite an archievement to succeed in european cups every year quite well ;) They might have low competition in the league for three bigs, but how many teams have won Premier League and or qualified in Champions League from England? If you put it in perspective their league is quite much balanced as any other league in Europe and most of their teams would do just fine in Championship and best of them would be low table or middleclass clubs in premier league. I bet Benfica and Porto would win almost any day teams like Sunderland and Stoke. This way or that Primeira is at the moment better league and (this part is important) it has more talent and faster tempo than SPL. They probably wouldnt produce good squad players for english teams like SPL, but more profilic players that are used to bring that something extra. You are correct that Wolfswinkel doesnt play in Porto. Thats why he hasn''t score more than 14 goals this season ^^ Also you are right that we need one striker, but in my opinion it should be neither of these two as long we keep all three we have already. Holt, Becchio and Hooper are similar players :) they have different strenghts and weakness, but their playing style is similar. All of them play more or less as a target player, they are not really dribblers and they rarely make their own chances or drop down to make the play. Hooper might be bit smaller than two others, but he still makes most of his goals by using his body strenght near goal and where youtube can make anyone as a Messi, it can''t fake the playing style and I have seen him play at least 6 times this season. Van Wolfswinkel isnt far from that type, but he has technical ability to play bit different. Still for me he wouldnt be different enough thought I would pick him before hooper and yes for every successfull dutch academy player there is two who fail in top leagues, but want to count how many brittish players do same for trying to get from lower league stages to premier or are bought for foreign leagues and success? Not to mention Hooper have 0 english national team games under his belt and I most likely dont have to tell which national team lacks good strikers dutch or english. Also check goalscorer table in premier league and see how many english players there are. Not so many even if you would count Welsh, Scottish and Irish players and most of them dont even play as a striker. That means english strikers dont typically do well in premier league considered the ammount english youth system produces every year for domestic football. So at the end I would take odds with few games dutch national player than zero game english. Well to be honest I would take odds with 0 game dutch too. So again I wouldnt pick either of these two, but I''m not saying either of them is a bad player and if we wouldnt have already similar players as Hooper I would have harder to pick, but in current situation I would go for Wolfswinkel just because he has bit different attributes than our current strikers and Hooper and he is more creative player. What we lack is creativity. You almost know every time what our players do when they get the ball. Pilkington and Hoolahan can surprise some times ^^
7. signupcarrow Porto is still in champions league and most of the years their european league teams do quite well there. Primeira Liga isnt poor man''s league and they have lot of talent in there. Just check how much some players cost to get out of there. Compared for example leagues like Eredivisie or Ligue 1. Anyway comparing Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel. I personaly wouldn''t take either of them, if we keep all Becchio, Kamara and Holt. But if I would have to take 1 it would be Wolf. Why? First of all he comes from dutch academy-system which means he knows how to play on the ground. Technique isnt something what you can learn at higher ages. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdUL4v2xps4 Look for example that link and see how he touch the ball and think can any of our current strikers have that soft touch. What he lacks is physicality. He wont win many headers even thought he has ability for it, but that is way easier to boost up with proper training. Hooper is typical brittish all rounder striker. We have already 2 of them in Holt - Becchio duo. Hooper might be faster and a bit more clinical, but still as long as those two are in the team I wouldnt buy third from same mold. But then again I dont know what Hughton want''s. I personaly would like to have someone who can do something else with the ball than shoot head and pass. Wolfswinkel has some extra abilities, but how well he would do alone between two physical centrebacks. As I have said earlier if we go for strong player I would like someone like Aubameyang who has that extra pace and technique with him. Thought most likely he is out of our price range. I personaly dont know if we truly even need pure striker. Someone creative in second striker role would give us so much more options, but well this is just something I prefer and fantasy ^^- Adam Maher, Younes Belhanda, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alessio Cerci for example score quite often without being pure strikers to mention few that are not playing in big teams. And after that ramble I just say that I rate Wolfswinkel, but hope we sign a bit different style player and at the end I''m happy with him, if Hughton sees this type of player fitting better his formation.
8. Well let''s say I havent ever seen Martin play that bad ^^ He might have been better than some of our guys, but his position was few times badly wrong and gave few bad misspasses. Thought I agree that Snoddy had few bad moments too at least in first half. Whittaker could play for Howson, but what I have learned in the past managers very rarely play player out of formation if they dont know what his form is. Also I would be quite sure Whittaker would drift a bit for his more comfortable position and our problem isnt on the wings so I would pick up player who is more used for central position. Thought you never know. Anyway if Whittaker would play middle, I would bring back Johnson instead of Fox as two risks in our "crisis" position would probably hurt badly. And yeah as there is some games left and if I would be in Hughton''s boots I would try something different now to wake up team, but ofc point never hurts either and Hughton probably picks the team who he trusts to bring us that point.
9. I would like to try this one, but I doubt Hughton will do it. ----------------------Holt-------------------- Jackson----Hoolahan---Snodgrass ------------Fox--------Howson----------- Garrido--Basson--Turner--Whittaker Why Whittaker? Martin had bad game against Southampton and if Whitty is fit I think it would be his time to show is he still in form he was before injury. His runs were just so much more effective than Martin''s, so as our attackin has been slow I would like to see if he could bring a bit extra for it. Why no Johnson, but outform Howson? Johnson cant pass and he is slow. Fox can pass, but he is slow too. We would have two slow middlefielders. If Tettey would be fit I would put Johnson - Tettey pairing, but without him and Surman we dont really have high enegy middlefielders that could play either that position or position in diamond. Passing has been abyssmal and risk of bringing Fox without earlier gametime might just be worth it. Why Hoolahan, Holt and Jackson? If we play Fox Jackson is only player with Kamara who has pace for running behind the line and get something out of it. If nothing else he would get some energy out of opponent for Kamara to finnish the job. With long ball threat it means there is some space in the middle and best man to use that space is Hoolahan and his passing is just so much better than rest of team bar Snoddy. Holt is hard worker, his hold up play and passing has been better than Becchio''s and for those of you who state Holt is static I dont know what Becchio would be for you. Holt also has somekind of connection with Hoolahan and they both tend to make space for eachother and for late runs from wingers. Snoddy and centrebacks are obvious. Anyway this is only my armchair managing and mostlikely we start with solid. ---------------------Holt----------------------- Bennet-----Hoolahan-----Snodgrass ------------Johnson----Howson---------- Garrido--Bassong--Turner--Martin Sunderland used 2 striker tactic with poor result against QPR, but have used similar formation than use earlier this season with Sessegnon in Hoolahan''s role. Either way I would play 4-2-3-1 just for getting more pass routes.
10. In my opinion Howson has class and he can easily be premiership player, if he finds back his form. Mayby sport psych would do a good for him as I see him trying to do right decisions, but his end product is very poor. Also pairing Johnson - Howson isn''t clearly workin and we rarely saw them together previous season either. Tettey Howson would probably work better as Tettey''s mobility is so much better than Johnson''s and Howson could have more confidence to get forward. Not to mention that Martin is quite slow too so Howson found himself covering full back once in a while and that just doesnt suit him. I dont know if he ever fits for Hughton''s tactics as he need quite much space and time to be effective and in his current role he doesnt have it and current Wes role would have it even less, but I''m not ready to lose my hope in this guy. One thing is sure that his passing game needs to improve we are easy to play out if only players that can pass the pall quick are Hoolahan, Snoddy and Garrido. And those who are moaning about his shot, he probably has best shot from our center middlefielders in terms of precise and power. :)
11. We were long ball team last season :) not neat passing team like Swansea. Ofc there was times when Surman, Hoolahan and Fox offered us by their invidual skills some neat passing, but that wasnt our tactic. Also we were high risk team and our coach had 3 years time to build that team for his liking. That kind of game wont work very far if risk arent lowered. Blackpool went down and Aston Villa or Southampton most likely will go down with their high risk game. This season we have good offensie passing game when we go for 4-2-3-1. And dont get me wrong I dont intend to tell you that we are offensive team, but that our game is based for keeping ball on the ground. We have had very similar games than Swansea last season without total controlling and high pressure, but again Rodgers had time to work for those tactics and whatever way you look it those tactics need modern team with modern coach ^^ Not old school 4-4-2 motivation first managering.
12. Heh even commentators said todays game wasnt negative and both teams had intention of attack. Normaly they give a rant about how poor lower table teams are if they draw ^^ It is funny that people keep crying, crying and crying once again when Hughton is doing just what they are asking for. Todays game was open and it just proved again that people here who have cried for early changes and 442 have been utterly wrong. In my opinion Hughton made today tactical error, but I dont want him to leave because of that. Sir Alex and Mourinho are doing errors once in a while. It is kind a sad that people moan, but they dont really offer realistic reasons what Hughton is doing wrong and when they do Hughton has always proved them wrong. We lack depth and quality at the moment for the game Hughton is trying to implent. Tetteys injury was bigger blow than we thought and as Surman is out we dont even have other winger than Pilkington for left side as Bennet really dont play comfortable there. Still we defend well and if you dont watch two previous games our team pass well and play quite fancy football to be honest. I know brittish are used for straightforward game and imo long balls are 80''s so I''m glad we got rid of Lambert and modernised our game to this century ^^ Hughton has done great job thus far and again we got a point against side that is below us. Losing that game for even more open game plan would have been disaster. Now can live our lives like that game never happened. In my opinion and I would be quite sure in professional opinion we have already decent manager. World''s best managers are usually considered quite dull by their style of game, so dont know why we are crying about the quality of manager ^^
13. Yeah by most statistic Garrido was our most effective outfield player with Turner and in my opinion he looked like that. In my opinion in prevous games only reason he havent shined is that we use right side more than left so his offensive game wont get regocnition it deserves. I have nothing to critisize in his game and in my opinion he has been quite stabile player. Mayby bit more aggressiveness needed sometimes, but otherwise his position is always top notch and makes right decisions in the game even when he is under pressure. I would look a bit more for our right back today, who wasnt in top form, but dont remember previous time Martin would have had bad game, so mayby this was one in a hundred ^^
14. I will take a big breathe before commenting this game more :D
15. Well Becchio in, but dont know if they are good pairing with Holt.. Last time it was awful.
16.
Whilst we all know pace is not in Holtys game, we can surely expect more effort and some movement from him. He is too stationary
Heh you can blame Holt lot of thing, but if you blame he beings stationary you are not really watching the game :)
17. Again the all mighty 4-4-2 was disaster for both defence and building up game. Too bad I dont take stills from the game, but there was situation when Southampton left back had the ball and after he got front of Kamara there was tens of meters open space in the middle of the pitch. Only player there was wearing red shirt.. thank god left back went for wing play. Another thing that made me do frustrated sounds was our passing and not only Johnson and Howson this time, but our most reliable players Snodgrass and Martin were definently poor. Well the weather is horrible and when Hoolahan made his first pass it was behind Garrido because the pool of water they are playing ^^ So mayby not only our players fault this time. And third thing was that some players really didnt know what to do on the pitch ^^ it wasnt one r two times when our own players were blocking their teammates. Anyway Southampton were better side for first half, but our defence was still quite solid and Bunn took few good saves. At the end when Hoolahan came on the pitch we slowly seemed to go for 4-2-3-1 and I dont know if you noticed when Hoolahan made nice trick and got away from his marker on the middlefield and passed for Snoddy we had tons of open space and 4 against 4 situation, but Snoddys poor pass stopped our attack. More of this with better end production and we will win this game. Also at the end of half we started to get the pressure on right side of the end so mayby we see better second half. Heh and stop complaining about Holt ^^ he made some brilliant runs and passes. Garrido and Holt are sharing my opinion of our MOTM at the moment. Bunn, Kamara and centre backs have been good too.
18. From the names Rhodes, Graham, Mackie and Hooper I would still take Hooper before anyone else. He oozes quality compared to three others ^^ Still I hope we go for striker abroad, if we are going to sign one. We already have hard workers who make their goals by size or just brute force, now we need a guy who can offer something more.
19. I wouldnt be so sure neither Butterfield and Surman are gone next season :) Lot depends ofc who we bring next summer, but as said Surman is useful player and Butterfield is kind a only one who can really replace Hoolahan from our current squad. Howson for me isnt really 10. If we do like most people here cry and bring one qualty forward with 5-12 millions it will mean we cant really afford so many more with proven quality. I''m quite sure Hughton will find another deep middlefielder and at least one fullback. If players like Barnett, Jackson, C,Martin, Fox, Tierney, Ayala and Vaughan are leaving as it looks like there will be room in the squad. But well you never know. Surman has deal left 2 years and I believe same goes for Butterfield, Cant remember how many years we gave him, so they are in better positions than those who are running out of contract or have only 1 year left.
20. YC: Well in my opinion when PIlkington have had one of those days when he doesnt seem to be on the field and we cant get forward Andrew Surman would be better option than Elliot Bennet in left wing. Surman has good passes and he know what "pass and move" means which could be teached for some of our middlefielders ^^ Dont know if he would fit Hughtons tactics, but he would give some variety and ball confidence and we wouldn''t be so dependant of Hoolahan and Snoddy to make all of our plays. In quality he is no worse than Howson I would say. He just lacks pace which seems to irritate people ^^ What comes to Tettey in my opinion he was one of the key''s of that 10 game unbeaten run. His closing up is so much effective than Johnson''s and he has energy to do it and go forward for whole 90 minutes. Most of the games he have made Johnson look very good as he gives him time to get in right places. Ofc same goes another way too and Johnson''s strenght and calmer approach to the game gives Tettey chance to overplay some situation and get out of it. But at the end we have good players and I hope Hughton can carve a tactic that we wont notice difference ^^
21. Heh champions league can be bit boring, but I suggest watching Bundesliga and La Liga once in a while as they play soo much more open game than in premier league. ( Well avoid Barcelona games, they are boring, if you have seen one you have seen them all) Anyway as I''m not english I dont have any good reason to be on ManU''s side and Real Madrid was my fathers and grandpa''s team while they still lived so it has always been second team to cheer for with Norwich so you can bet I jumped from the couch when Modric made them even. Also remember that every time english team loses there it is less money for players next season ^^
22. Not professional level. Back in days I played few games in finnish national youth teams and later couched few youth teams. I would say I just love the sport and try to learn much about it as possible and watch many games as possible and like to discuss about my views of it. At the end I would still have nothing to give at professional level as I''m just a average guy.
