1. Can''t polish a turd, Can''t polish a turd, Even Paul Lambert, Can''t polish a turd
2. It''s not long since full time, and a Hughton Out threat has''t been started - so I thought I''d do the honours. HA! I''m a proud happy-clapping plastic optimist! Great performance from both the ''playing staff'' and the manager. Can''t wait for next week. OTBC
3. Can''t speak about Vaughan much, other than I believe he is on Twitter and occasionally twitting about how much he is enjoying himself. As for Ayala - he''s doing well. My dad is a Forest fan and seen him play a few times this season. Said he looks pretty composed and measured and has won Man of the Match for 3 games in a row. I watched the Forest v Derby match on telly and he looked good. I''ve always seen the best in him (albeit in the limited matches he played last season) and hopefully we will have a cracking CB, living up to his potential, coming back to us next season.
4. It is going to be difficult for pubs to show all the games because the rules changed towards the end of last season. Somebody please correct me if I''m wrong but European satellite providers (from whom most pubs wanting to show Saturday matches get their service) were stopped from showing multiple matches on a Saturday, instead being forced to choose one. This was as a result of that European Court ruling that, essentially, destroyed the way the EPL sells the rights to its matches. I hope I''m wrong, as I can''t get to many away games, but I''ve got a feeling I''m going to have to break out the old transistor radio and tune in to Radio Norfolk.
5. I sort of understand where the OP is coming from, even if I don''t share his views. Pre-season performances haven''t exactly set the world on fire, but you can never read too much into pre-season matches. They''re all about fitness and trying different things out. Transfer wise - we haven''t spent big, but then what were people expecting? I think every city fan would cream their pants if Messrs McNaly and Hughton announced tomorrow that they had signed Van Persie on a 3 year deal but we have to live in reality. The signings that have been brought in look pretty darn good IMO. Also, what is the point of spunking all your money up the wall in one transfer window? I''ve got a strong feeling that a decent portion of the transfer budget has been withheld/retained until January just in case we need to buy an urgent replacement or in case the next Jonny Howson becomes available. I, for one, can''t wait for the new season to start. Yes I''m a little nervous about how we''ll do and I don''t think we''re in for a Lambert style rollercoaster of attacking, do-or-die football. It''s a tough, tough, league, but I''m optimistic and trust in the people who''s job it is to bring success to NCFC to do just that. OTBC
6. I live just round the corner from CR and have a bit of a nose round on my way to work sometimes. As far as I can tell nothing has been started yet. The only thing I''ve seen happen has been a load of sand put on the pitch
7. Perhaps the message board police could spend their time trying to get the sh!te forum sorted out, rather than checking up on people''s spelling and grammar. How can it be that, when using a fully standards compliant browser, a forum, written in .net, can''t do bleeding quotes properly!
8.
I don''t care what the message board police think.... If I want to start a thread to have my say when a thread already exists then I will. If someone has an issue with this then they can tell someone who gives a s*it.... Because I don''t.
Careful, Pink ''Un Brother might be listening...
9. Who polices the Messageboard(sic) police?
10. Totally agree. Although it''s just a word - the use of it (as with so many words!) is important - especially to fans. Can''t wait for the new season now! OTBC
11. Whether it''s the first match of the season, or a cold and wet Monday in January, I really hope we stuff ''em. Nothing against Lambert really, the chap is still a legend, I''d just like us to do a lot better than Villa next year. You know that feeling you get when you''re out with a smoking hot girl, and see your not-so-hot ex? I want that feeling, but with football.
12. Apart from the fact the guy is a massive fascist, I think he would be a good choice. He can motivate players, has a lot of experience at all levels of football and probably has a lot of connections. And, if all goes pear-shaped next season at least he is a complete lunatic so the ride would be fun!
13. Don''t know if this is the right thread, but I really didn''t want to start another one! Presumably when it comes to compensation that will depend on how Lambert leaves. If he resigns (and the resignation is accepted), then is technically unemployed, and then gets another job PL himself would be liable to buy out his contract. If however another employer, for argument sake Villa, want him they could buy out his contract. I guess thought because the contract is only a year compensation would be low (although I''m sure McNally et al could argue it up if it ever came to legal fisticuffs) I suppose it would be possible to put him on garden leave, or stop him working for a direct competitor for a period of time (say until just after the start of next season). These are fairly standard clauses in a lot of employment contracts (I know mine has one) and putting someone on garden leave if the resign doesn''t mean you can''t employ someone else. He could also be stopped from poaching players - I''m pretty sure that a lot of contracts have clauses in them about how you can solicit work from other employees after you have left, again I know my contract has stuff like that in (although I''m not a football manager)
14. Just reported on Look East that the BBC understand that Villa will make an approach/approach to speak to PL in the next 24 hours
15. A couple of things. Firstly, Surely PL would still be considered a pretty risky option. This is his first season as a top-flight manager and, whilst he has undoubtedly achieved a huge amount here, he is still learning his trade. In a few years time, with us established in the premier league and maybe knocking on the door of a cup final or Europa league qualification he would be considered less of a punt but at present St Paul is still, essentially, untested at this level. Secondly, I get the feeling that NCFC is his toy, and he wants to see how far he can take it. If/when we hit a plateaux (perhaps enforced by finances etc) then we''ll probably have to say good bye but until then why would he move? We are a club that, realistically, could (in a few years time admittedly) be winning domestic cups now-and-again and qualifying for European football. My gut is telling me that St Paul will be here for a while, David Moyes style. Having said that, my gut told me we would beat Liverpool 2 - 1 so expect PL to be paraded at Villa park this time tomorrow.
16. Ha, good point Unhinged. Stupid morning fingers were doing the typing. Army.
17. Hi all, Does anyone know of a decent pub in Colchester that will be showing the match this evening? I''m going down to visit a mate who has just moved there. Also, he''s an Officer so probably best if any of the suggested pubs aren''t likely to be frequented by any of his men. Thanks in advance. (2 - 1 Norwich, Wilbrahamovic late winner)
18. A couple of points on this, if they have been mentioned already I apologise - my eyes are far too tired to read all the posts in this thread! 1. The chap who released the images early was, potentially, breaking the law. The Computer Misuse Act (which controls hacking and stuff) defines hacking as, approximately, ANY unauthorised access. If the images were hidden, and the page not linked to from the main site, this could be construed as a breach of the CMA. Put simply, just because the page wasn''t behind the Pentagon''s firewall doesn''t mean it couldn''t have been hacked. Leaving your front door open isn''t an invitation for people to come into your house and take your telly. 2. The above being that case, the club had every right to try and nip any breach in the bud asap - even at four in the morning. If I remember correctly, if there is a breach of the CMA and data is stolen it is the responsibility of the organisation holding the data to pay for the forensic investigation to find out how the attack took place. Forensic (IT) investigators don''t come cheap (£1000 per hour in some cases). In addition, if the investigation finds that the organisation holding the data didn''t secure it properly then it, along with the hacker, are in breach of the CMA. 3. I think once the club realised that it was a fan, not some evil hacker, who got hold of the images I think they, and the police, handled the situation well. In effect, they gave him a clip round the ear and told him not to do it again. 4. The club really, really, really needs to sort out the website. If we are a big club, why do we have such a crummy site? It''s provided by the same company that does the Binner''s site - we''re better than that! 5. There''s no such thing as bad publicity
19. Pie Supplier - I don''t think that your comment is negative in any way. If ,dare I say it, we lose three or four on the bounce then it will be a real test of his mettle to see how he copes especially, as you say, if he is responsible for some of the goals that lead to defeat. It will be interesting to see how Ayala performs today. I''m pretty sure PL will have given the whole team the hair-dryer treatment after Wednesday but one of his real strengths is giving young, hungry players the confidence they need to perform well and I wouldn''t be surprised if we see a really solid performance today, not just from Dani Ayala but Whitbread also.
20.
Is it just little old me or does anyone else have a weird sense of wanting JV to do well for us? I find myself really rooting for the lad, bet he has a Superman style t-shirt ready to for his first goal (with an N on his chest).
That T-Shirt would be most awesome. I think the club shop should start making them immediately
21. I''m just going to put this one out there.... ....I think Daniel Ayala is going to develop into a really good player and possibly one of the most astute signings PL has made. When I''ve seen him play this season there have been some real sparks of brilliance, small sparks admittedly, but they were there none-the-less. Fair enough his lack of experience playing at the highest level, and lack of match fitness, has caused him to make a few mistakes. I think the own goal on Wednesday was down to bad luck and poor organisation in defence rather than him begin a clutz. He''s a young lad and I think next season he could really come into his own. What are others'' thoughts?
22. NCFCStar, point taken and there were reasons for me not being on the waiting list/having a season ticket when we were in League One. As for being a ''slap in the face'' - I''m not blaming you or any current, past or future season ticket holder or those who have been to all the games when we got relegated, promoted and promoted once again. Not really a moan, just expressing my frustration that I find it super-hard to watch the club I support.
23. The Rose has a good atmosphere and good beer, as does the Kings Arms. The Coach and Horses on Thorpe Road is very good as well
