  1. Gosh, I better go and start one of those "let''s count down from a million" threads on another part of this board until my post count reaches a thousand!
  2. It''s a great fit, they deserve each other. I see it''s just till the end of the season. Colin must be gutted that he''s having to drop back down again to the Championship. :-)
  3. Just harping back to the poetry, I want to hear McCarthy reading "Pot Pourri from a Surrey Garden" by Betjeman. Then I''d like to hear Warnock read "Aubade" by Larkin, in his animated pundit voice.
  4. What a good OP from Mr Hucker and a really interesting thread. I think that having a really top-class, experienced manager is the key to top-three success at the moment - not necessarily the money. Having said that, the Blue Mancs are up there and they are only about the money. I think that because of this they will crash and burn before too long - but not this season. I rate Harry, Sir Alex and Wenger as exceptional managers - Arsene will always come through in the long-term, he''s one of the best around.
  5. Perhaps this is an age thing - I started following football in the late 60s/early70s and would certainly class Celtic as a very "big club". However, for younger people who weren''t around then, I can see that it might be a question of "what''s all the fuss about"?
  6. 1) QPR - because they made Barton club captain and because they have spent shedloads and it''ll be all for nothing - it''ll be funny watching their "stars" trying to get out of their contracts 2) Blackburn - never liked them 3) Wolves - because of miserable McCarthy, although I doubt if he''ll be there much longer.
  7. .... or it might be a 7-point gap to catch Villa, as Man City have just scored!
  8. With West Brom''s win over Wolves today, the "top" club in the bottom five is now 8 points behind the Baggies, who are sixth from bottom. That''s a big gap when you''re not winning much.
  9. "Er, hasn’t Evra been the MUFC captain since Vidic hurt his knee in one of their Champions League games much earlier in the season?" Yes, he has, he''s been captain since Vidic was injured in December. It wasn''t a provocative gesture by MUFC.
  10. Yes, unfortunately for him I think even the transplant is disappearing.
  11. ... er ..... no ..... something isn''t quite the same, somehow :-)
  12. Did anyone else think he''s trying to sport a little Mohican?
  13. You stand on your bogs, You stand on your bo-o-ogs, Swansea City - You stand on your bogs.
  14. Agree with Rudolph on the phenomenon of the one-speed elderly driver (identified from the back by the flat cap and large ears), except I always call them the "40 mph drivers". You think you can get around them, and then you hit a 30 mph zone and they keep going at 40, so they get ahead of you again ...... Where we live, there are a number of elderly ladies who have those 1.1 litre automatic Metros (I think the model is Kensington?) - they tend to play it safe and stick to 25 mph.
  15. I can''t see the FA appointing anyone this time who isn''t English, and in any case, I would be amazed if a Scot like Lambert would have the slightest interest in managing England - maybe he''d like to be the Scotland manager when he''s finished his club managerial career. We have had the situation under Capello of having a manager who doesn''t speak very good English, and when it''s the native tongue of every one of your players that seems a bit daft to me. So I think it''ll be a Brit, and an English Brit at that.
  16. He must be good because the comment after the article smacks of desperation. Reminded me of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton - "I''m begging of you please don''t take my man" :-)
  17. "proper kicking butt" :-) that made me smile.
  18. It was the same during the Scousers v Spurs game last night, you would have thought Suarez had missed all those matches because of some noble reason. The commentators seemed to be willing him to score. Instead he got booked and could have been sent off IMO.
  19. Perhaps it was sort of double irony ... ?? :-)
  20. Of course we should look forward, that''s exactly what I meant and what the OP meant. However, we don''t have to stop making the very best of this season - it is possible to do both! I simply don''t think it''s very fair when a perfectly reasonable poster (like the opening poster) is shot down in flames for no reason. It was a thoughtful and interesting post, as others on this thread have agreed.
  21. You have misread the OP, it is not "whinging", it is simply someone saying he''s confident about this season and thinking positively about the future. I''m sure Lambert is doing the same - is he a "whinger" too? Let''s all just keep our feet firmly planted in the here and now, stop looking forward and see where that gets us. Hmmmm .....
  22. The reason we oop North have no snow, LDC, is that it''s too cold here to snow! Just wait till it warms up a degree or two .....
  23. Preston, Lancashire - frosty, not snowing, bitterly cold and we''ve run out of fuel oil ....... PS - what is "raping it down"?????
  24. Hmm, having read your account of this I must be one of the few people to think that maybe it''s not appropriate for the manager to single out one disgruntled moaner and show him up in this way. Lambert must find it very irritating to hear, but surely unless the moaning is abusive or personal he should just let it lie?
