  1. The hardest part for Gilmour is 80% of the time receiving the ball ten yards from his own penalty box, maybe with Normann showing what he can do, naturally you would expect Normann to progress on completing his first 90minutes, his confidence will be grow as he fast becomes the main man. As the season goes on maybe Normann and Billy will click.
  2. Not sure if a 'top' manager would really want the Newcastle job, even if you had the unlimited cheque book. Someone like Potter would probably see it as a great opportunity, all depends on whether you get asked to go to Saudi embassy to pick up your p45. When you consider the top4 are playing very well, when Roman's Chelsea started spending, realistically it was just Man Utd/Arsenal and top4 was nearly guaranteed with the money. It was harder for Man City, but if memory serves correctly it was still more of a 3 way battle Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal and Pool whilst being good in cups were still a long way behind in the league. Spend 300m or 400m, I still think challenging for top4 against somewhat settled teams would be a challenge.
  3. When I did the ref's course, their advice in this scenario was not to worry about the 6 second rule. Use the time to get into position in and around the half way line, once you are in position signal for the goalie to get on with it and then if they refuse to then book them. The general advice was... you have to remember at grass roots football you are at the match on your own and having common sense in these situations.
  4. Lets hope they spend 500m in January and get a 15 point deduction for FFP
  5. To a degree, but the problem really started with Italian league doing the same thing and then Sky/PL took it to another level. When you look at all the 'smaller' leagues, Anderlecht, Ajax, Psv, Benfica, Lisbon, Porto, Red Star Belgrade (obviously the war had a big effect too). In the early to mid 90's there probably wasn't much between Rangers and the PL. Gazza, Ladrup and co. Seemed like Rangers were a big club buying players (Woods, Gordon etc). Sky seem to have destroyed every other league, when players are leaving teams qualifying for Europe and joining sides fighting against relegation in the PL then financially there is a major problem.
  6. its understandable to a degree... how many supporters/owners demand an 'experienced' manager. But added to the mix, its not just a British problem. But how many Bame managers exist in Europe. Many of the PL managers seem to come from Spain, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France.
  7. coaching and management, I think is all very hit and miss. How many 'up and coming' managers have disappeared from the game in the last decade aka Lambert. Some get a job it goes well and everyone is tipping them for the top and then move to a side like Villa, Everton, Tottenham where the expectations are so high and realistically unattainable then have their careers destroyed. Few managers/coaches have the 20 year reign in the game (at least at the very top). As for cam's comments about Lampard and Gerrard, sure most of that is to do with their reputation and ability to sell a plan in an interview setting and/or having the right agent to open doors.
  8. Football, last it 'soul' a long time ago and became fundamentally corrupt. When you look at the owners around the globe and the financial state of clubs. Qatar hosting a world cup using slave labour to build the stadiums. The human rights standard for the governing bodies to pass the Fit and proper, FIFA corruption case (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_FIFA_corruption_case). Its what football has become now and other sports following suit.
  9. The Saudi's can do whatever they like whilst they keep taking dollars for oil. It allows keeps the dollar strong and the American's can print money and get oil. Aka The Petro Dollar. Nations like Libya and Iraq, made public announcements they were going to use the Euro, or an alternative currency and were invaded. Whilst you can make claims of humans rights etc. Qaddafi's threatened attempt to establish an independent African currency was not taken lightly by Western interests. In 2011, Sarkozy reportedly called the Libyan leader a threat to the financial security of the world. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2003/feb/16/iraq.theeuro
  10. Sky is no different, it is much easier for these media companies to moan then to produce high quality content. They have it easy, find an easy target and abuse them, then move onto the next. Sky typical abuse one of the 'big 4' or 'big 6' which is under achieving. Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs in recent years always been their favourites. There will always be one easy target. The world of media, whether news or entertainment is just click baiting and/or trolling. Like the guy whinging down your local, it's easier to point out mistakes and call things sh*t then to provide a detailed solution to fix them.
  11. agree, think it should be the case for many younger players. Have pre-season with opportunities in league cup and maybe a few games off the bench to impress. If you haven't 'cracked' it by January for any given season, go on loan and try to get a run of games together and see where you are the following season. Those clearly not going to break through in a 2 or 3 season period should be moved on with buy-backs if they suddenly realise their potential.
  12. think what's more criminal for these clubs is holding onto to players till they in early to mid 20's many with continuous loans here and there (Morris 25 when he left). I think for many PL clubs its better to sell these players that are clearly not close to the side with a sell-on % and a buy back clause in case they start to show the promise. Think Idah has always come across someone that would 'make it' (in real terms championship+ is making it), 6ft 3, has pace and an eye for goal. Even if you cant pass and have many wholes in your game. You would imagine at least a reliable championship goal scorer.
  13. this and the fact, it was last game before international break. Would have been a long two weeks for everyone to be P7L7. Hopefully, gives the squad and coaching department something to work with over this period.
  14. Think Sargent will stay in the side for a while, particularly away from home. His tracking back and helping the midfield out is certainly a plus. For the short-term if we can get a defensive solidarity like Farke's first season. Pick up a few cleansheets and if someone can become the 'Maddison' in terms of goals. We might scramble a few wins. Allows the younger players of which we have many, to progress, allow the new players to 'gel' and get to January and take stock.
  15. They should be investgated and banned. Sure they break all data laws in uk, all uk data stored outside of country i believe. Facebook had a 'study' where they change peoples private messaged to see what response people would give.
  16. I am sure, being the 'main' man at any club and your confidence, mojo and maybe tactics to suit. You then leave and need to restablish yourself and place in a side with a group of players you dont know. When you look at the many flair players and stars we sold over the years. Few have gone on and progressed to a level we thought they would.
  17. Not sure why the need to 'come out'. No heterosexual declares their sexuality not sure why people feel a need for homosexual to do so.
  18. maybe at home we will play an 'AM' behind 2 strikers to get the front 3. with 2 DM's and back 5.
  19. both can play as centre forward, I would imagine they will get some game time in that position. Tzolis might be able to play as the 'wing-back', considering he got stuck in against Arsenal and tracked back. Sargent tracked back and was helping defend quite a lot. At the moment when we are looking to grind results out, its an important element.
  20. Thought the must obvious penalty (considering VAR) they didn't even appeal for. When Rodriquez air shot and the ball bouncing around, one of our players trying to kick the ball boots him straight in the back of the knee no where near the ball, if he had dived, its a decision VAR would have given.
  21. Had the opinion before the replay that it was a penalty, based on Krul was walking to the ref and the saw the ref pointing to a corner suddenly turns round a runs back to goal looks a bit sheepish. I would say if it was Pope on Pukki we would all be saying it was a blatant penalty.
