How many goals conceded were each directly responsible for? Cantwell’s count would be far higher. That would make Cantwell’s stats far worse.

Why would Villa pay £35m for Cantwell when they could get Lingard for a similar amount?

Happy days I can’t wait. I’d happily sell Cantwell for £20m plus with add ons. Cantwell flatters to deceive for me although he is improving. I’d take the cash and see if we can get two hot prospects as a replacements which we can sell on in two or three years for similar amounts each.

Emi was head and shoulders above Cantwell in PL. Although Cantwell scored more I’d say he contributed to many goals conceded for various reasons. Emi assisted more and was a consistent danger whereas Cantwell was patchy at best.

With Ahadme banging in the goals for Portsmouth it will be interesting to see if he turns out to be heir to the Pukki throne in 18 months time if he has a successful loan. Maybe he would move ahead of Idah in the pecking order if Idah turns out to be another Ryan Jarvis. What do you think?

It’s a shame as I thought there was a decent player there. However, like Onel, the last time I saw Thompson play he looked too bulky to be a footballer and needed to ease off the weights a bit. But maybe that would have sorted itself out once match fitness kicked in?

With Derby being up sh*t creek it might be worth tempting them with a cheeky bid for Belik. He’s very good but I do appreciate he has had injury problems. What do you think?

McLean was too slow in PL, too weak, doesn’t create enough and doesn’t score enough. Apart from that he’s ideal. Don’t get me wrong Kenny gives 100% and does a job in The Championship and would be a squad player at best in PL but due to his age, his love for Rangers I’d let him go if a decent offer come in and get someone in who’s an upgrade in each area.

Rachica used to player for Werder Bremen so I wonder if that’ll be a pull factor? Also if we do bag Josh, we may generate interest in America. Which may mean more fans, sponsorship and maybe new owners not that I’m advocating owner change.

With all the midfielders arriving is it me or would it not be a surprise that McLean ends up being sold to Rangers? McLean wasn’t good enough last time in the PL and I would argue he wasn’t stand out in the Championship neither. If a decent offer came in from Rangers if it was me I’d sell.

He’s 6ft 1 tall, which is a decent size.

Southampton will get Armstrong as they’ll sell Ings first.

Holt could play and had a good footballing brain. Hugill couldn’t trap a bag of cement.

Sell if possible. If it was me I’d swap him for Armstrong along with Trybull and grow in some cash as a make weight. Hugill is from up north so he’ll fit in better.

He’s still not signed. The longer this goes on the more worried I’d be. If he hasn’t signed by the start of the season it will bring instability to the team which is a distraction we can do without.

Every time I read an 1p5wich report Downes seems to be getting sent off. A worrying lack of discipline for perspective buyers to consider.

I think, when fit, Hernandez can still do a job for us but the trouble is for him he’s been injured for a lot of the last 18 months which has upset his rhythm. However being on international duty currently will mean he’ll be back at the beginning of the season it as a fiddle. Fingers crossed he gets back to the levels shown in the PL and the previous promotion campaign.

It’ll be interesting if we can use Hugill and Trybull as make weights towards getting Armstrong. The outlay cash wise might be an extra £10-15m but the wages saved on Trybull and Hugill will probably cover 90% of Armstrong’s wages. Armstrong is more saleable going forwards if he does well. A calculated gamble I think.
