The problem we have is when Rachica is full of running it tends to be in the first half. In the first half yesterday everytime we broke quickly there only ever seemed to be Pukki in the box. Why would you ping a ball into the box when there as 3 giants stood near Pukki? You’d be better off recycling the ball. But that then brings another problem, our midfield is too slow to make the most of the second wave attack. I think Rachica will improve as his fitness improved and when we finally get this DM in so we can attack with confidence.

Apart from a back heel in the first half and his effort in the last 30 seconds plus his shot that was about it. As some other contributors have said, either the formations doesn't suit Cantwell or he’s not good enough at the moment. Personally I’d sell ASAP and get a decent DM and CB.

He does track back, normally about 2m behind the player he’s following for 50m. 😂

Being flamboyant and being involved can easily be confused with being productive. He was running about a fair bit, dribbling down blind allies a fair bit, slow play that held play up a fair bit, losing his runner a fair bit. But not a lot of positives.

Cantwell hardly ripped up The Championship last season so what makes anyone think he’s going to do any better in the PL?

As I have previously said, I am not a Cantwell fan. He flatters to deceive. Today, apart from one back heel in the first half what exactly did he do? Everytime he got the ball today he seemed to slow our attack down. He seems to want to dribble past two players rather than a quick offload to a teammate who is in space. Passing was too slow, shooting poor and defensively weak. Ultimately, too slow, too weak, too nieve defensively. Doesn’t add anything to the team. I’d rather give Sargent or Tzolis a go on the right behind Pukki.

Krul Aarons Hanley Gibson Williams Lees Melou Sorensen Rachica Gilmore Tzolis Pukki I think Sorensen is very under rated and could do a job as a DM. He’s played CB before for his country, LB for us and in midfield. He strikes me as an intelligent player, a player who can tackle and read a game. Cantwell is over rated, McLean is too slow, too weak. Sargent would be a close call to start instead of Tzolis. Apart from that the usuals on the bench.

Every club in the world will have some form of COVID fianncial bill to pay I would have thought and maybe Beria need to lose a player or two to make the accountant happy?

Yes definately. Cantwell is over rated. Max is a very good prospect. If we get £50m in total for both that would be plenty, with a sell on.

Giannoulis may be a player ideal for winning teams and don’t need to defend. Maybe Byram will be the answer once he gets back on the pitch in a month or so’s time.

This is not true. COVID outbreaks have not hit all PL clubs and not disrupted all PL clubs pre season like it has Norwich. Some clubs yes but not all. We have a small squad so any disruption is going to be felt by us more. Then you throw into the mix the quality of Liverpool and Man City. It was highly unlikely we were going to take points off them at any point in the season. The reaction to the season start is OTT in my view. We have the end of the transfer window to look forward to, the international break to get the players tuned in and fit and off we go. Some very winnable games until the end of October.

From what I have seen of BM he seems very versatile. Can play either full back position and has played on the left wing. I’ve seen he’s been quite robust in the challenge and is very quick. So maybe he could be taught to play DM and be the new Skipp etc. What do you think?

Williams seems to be very versatile so I was wondering if he can play DM? He may be more mobile than Sorensen and filling in for full backs will be easy if that’s his day job. I appreciate he’s 5ft 7 but Kante is only small and I don’t remember Makalele being that tall neither and yet they are exceptional DM’s. What do you think?

With JWP signing a new 5 year contract with Southampton does this leave Cantwell in pole position to gain a move to Villa?

We could have sent him out on loan and then sold him for a fee once he’s proven himself somewhere.

Strange one this. He seemed from afar to be quite handy. I’m surprised we didn’t loan him out and see if he could make it I. The lower leagues. I hope we inserted a sell on clause or a buy back option.

Skipp starts for Spurs today. We’ll that’s him definitely not coming to us on loan then.

Max was too weak at times but had a good game. If he can increase his body strength that will be the icing on the cake. I agree with the other comments regarding Giannoulis. Very impressive.

How would this all pan out bearing in mind Webber’s wife works in a prominent position at the club? Does that mean we lose her as well?

Lingard was quoted at £30m last season so why would you pay £35m for Cantwell?
