  2. I would say no, for 2 reasons. 1. With a 3rd loan player, come next season, it could become difficult for us to compete it we have 3 loan players who are integral to our system, especially over the long term. 2. Also, I see De Laet and Naughton as possible purchases at the end of the season, as both clubs have a lot of talent in front of them at their home clubs, where as McEachran would never be able to leave as he is considered the future at the bridge. So in effect we would be contributing to out own downfall in the future by giving him experience. Eg Sturridge vs Bolton this year.
  3. Easy. Most of you people are complete idiots. You clearly don''t understand what Chris Martin is all about! I really don''t want to be offensive or confrontational, but seriously, can you not see how ridiculously good he is? Obviously in my best 11... -----------------Ruddy----------------- Naughton-De Leat-Ayala-Tierney --------------------Fox-------------------- ----Bennet------------Hoolahan------ ---------------C Martin------------------ -----Holt-----------------Vaughan---- I presume that this is out best 11 overall. If you mean against Bolton replace Ayala with Barnett. Z
  4. Best player on the pitch today, just because he isn''t scoring goals, doesn''t mean he isn''t playing well.
  5. Lets be clear, it being the first game of the season is a very true point. As much as we would all love for us to come in and be Premier players from day 1, its not going to happen. All of our 25 squad players played in the Championship or League 1 last season, so you cannot expect them to understand how Premier league teams play differently to teams they have been used to playing. It is about getting used to the ways how things work, which doesn''t mean that the players aren''t actually up to it, just they have to understand it. They can watch all of the tape they want, but they still need games worth of experience. I really don''t want to go into the Alan Hanson "at this level" cliche, but it is very true, you need to get accustomed to the league. This is also evident throughout the game, even with something like the passing about the centre backs, in the second half they looked a lot more assured passing it about and didn''t look like making the mistakes again from the first half! Please just give it time, we are not returning to the same old league, its a new league and the players need to get used to it. By the West Brom/Bolton game I would expect for us to look a lot more premier league ourselves as we pick up on things other teams do and try them ourselves as well as good teams working us.
  6. Lets be clear, Stoke will have 10 strong guys on their team, guys who are trained at being tough. We need to beat them passing and with speed because thats what they don''t have. If you saw today, when Chelsea passed the ball a bit more Stoke were a lot more on the back foot! I know we can''t pass like Chelsea but the principle applies.
  7. 1. It is the 1st game of the Season. After the Watford game last season I can remember standing round in the pub after the gaming discussing how terrible Russel Martin looked, couldn''t defend, couldn''t keep with the line etc etc. He then goes on to be, arguably, our most consistent performer last season. 2. Holt did not have a bad game in anyway. Apart from Wes and Morison, I thought he was our third best player on the pitch, looking completely at home. He got about using his weight which a lot of defenders looked surprised by as they don''t see it too often, his movement off the ball was good as always and his general link up play, moving back etc instead of just staying up front was great. Also, as before we need to make sure we give it at least 3 games before even starting to judge.
  8. Yesterday they were caught out, however I think that they should still do it, as it works well to keep hold of the ball and mentally wear down the other team. What would you suggest instead?
  9. Who went tonight? From the 10 or so minutes that he was on the pitch he looked a completely changed man... Looking very confident on the ball, and passing with intent and power, moving around much faster than ever before as well as showing us he is more of a flick on and first touch guy. Having seen that Morison is quite a bit different to Holt I do now think Wilbraham is much more like Holt, just Holt is better. I know I can''t really judge on 10 minutes but a good attitude always comes through no matter how long people play and he really showed that tonight as well as a willingness to get to the ball. I am not saying he should be starter but as a guy in the 25, I am very pleased to have him in there.
  10. Just been on canaries.co.uk and it is saying that coach travel is £30 for Wigan. This is a ridiculous price. Is anyone actually using the service? I know the club have to make bit of profit on these things but for one bus, roughly calculated, they are making £1500 which gives them an enormous profit. I always thought they did it on a cheap basis as they just wanted to cover their costs because they wanted the fans to go to the games. With 2 people in my car we can drive for cheaper than this, getting a coach is meant to save money! With the £20 game ticket on top it makes it a £50 day out, before anything else (food, drink etc), anyone else see this is ridiculous?
  11. @ The Canary Fan When has Lambert not had a sub goalie? I remember when Rudd got injured we specifically called up Steer (meaning he would have to miss the FA Youth Cup semis which he had been a pivotal part of) to make sure they were covered. My Team: ------------------Ruddy Martin--Barnett--Whitbread--Tierney ------------------Fox-------------------------- ---Bennett------------Surman------------ ---------------Hoolahan--------------------- ------Holt--------------Jackson------------
  12. No way. Selling Chris Martin would just be Stupid. It would leave us with only 4 Strikers (I don''t really count Cody), with no emergency loans or anything like that you really need to be looking at about 6. Chris Martin is like no other Striker on our team, plus he is more versatile. He has the ability to shoot from anywhere and score, which is something I don''t feel any of the other strikers have. IMO 10 games into the season Chris will replace Hoolahan at the tip of the diamond because he is a lot stronger than Hoolahan, and having seen him play in that roll in the Championship, he loves it!
  13. Surely after 1 game 14 of our players will become players with Premier League experience?
  14. I would be interested. Have not written much in the past, however I could write up a new sample piece for you.
  15. I play it on PS3. Although once the seasons over I tend to play it less as i get annoyed at the lack of updates. So looking forward to 12. (although Madden 12 is out before that!) I reckon we will be a 3.5 star with a few updates when we dont lose our first 15 games we will go to 4. I would say Holt will be about 77-78 and Hoolahan 75-76. The rest around 70 - 75. Hopefully this time they will get Fox right and I will be able to get the ball out to everyone through him.
  16. I would only want one player from that list: Seb Larsson. He is simply awesome, seen him play for Birmingham a couple of times, before Birmingham were looking as if they could go down there was talk of him signing for top 5.
  17. ... is a load of rubbish. See so many people of this bored and in other places constantly talking about how we need players with "Premier League Experience" or this signing is no good because he has no "Premier League Experience" or Paul Lambert is going to use the rest of the 7 with players who have "Premier League Experience". Please stop using this, it is quite simply wrong. Most of the players with "Premier League Experience" that people keep quoting are just old players who have played a couple of seasons in the Premier with terrible teams. How is this anymore experience than what we have got at the moment. If you look at Lambert''s signings so far, very few over the past 2 years represent the idea of having experience of the league that we were in. For example Crofts last year, everyone moaned that our first signing of the year was not ambitious, but look at how everyone saw him at the end of the season, a hero. Lambert looks for players with footballing experience if anything, not "Premier League Experience", for example Wilbraham last year was brought in and played very well (tin hat on), and did exactly what Lambert wanted him to do, not what the crowd wanted him to do. He passes the ball on and is not selfish, that is Wilbraham, tonnes of footballing experience, but no Championship experience. If anything players without this experience could end up being a good thing, instead of getting in a 28 yr old who has played against Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal about 20 times in his career and has been thumped 4-0 every time. We could actually get some players who look forward to their first game vs a Mega Club and genuinely believe that they are good enough to go out and pull off the upset. Another negative with the experienced players is that they will often command high wages, however from the way Lambert plays, will not feature that much, which means we will be paying a lot just to have that in the squad. Perhaps with a manager in the Premier for the first time, lets let him make his own decisions on who to bring in, not this experience non sense which got us relegated in 04-05 and got us in financial trouble.
  18. A forward utility player would be nice. Someone like Pacheco who can play up front, attacking midfield, wing and most probably sit a bit further back in central midfield (he certainly has the ball skills to do so).
  19. Please can I say as the starter of this thread I never meant this to be an anti-surman thread and I am certainly not anti-Surman. In my opinion he has played so well this season and when he has been on the pitch he has been fantastic. Since him coming back I feel the left is a lot more sure and he is always willing to get back. However I dont believe someone who has played the equivalent of 16 games (minutes he didnt play due to being a sub/subbed) in a season is worthy on team of the season. Should play at least 2/3rds.
  20. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/steveclaridge/2011/05/claridge_kicks_off_27.html Surman has played fantastically well this season when he has been on, however having only played 2/5ths of our games is he really worthy of Championship team of the year?
  21. ... we will be taking a large number of strikers into the new season. Everyone is saying now we have Vaughan that it means Chris Martin and Cody. Lets not forget that we can expect to take 5 or maybe 6 good quality strikers into the Premier league. Lets not forget that this seasons number of strikers was actually very low and we were understaffed there until December. For this reason I think we will take 5 strikers in at least, being: Vaughan, Holt, Jackson, Martin, New Signing and Maybe a signing like Pacheco who can play second striker as well as wing and any attacking midfield positions.
  22. 1. Norwich City (20.1 m) Carrow Road 2. Ipswich Town (20.1 m) Portman Road 3. Colchester United (34.5 m) Weston Homes Community Stadium 4. Southend United (58.4 m) Roots Hall 5. Peterborough United (60.9 m) London Road 6. Dagenham and Redbridge (69.7 m) London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium 7. Gillingham (71.2 m) Priestfield Stadium 8. Tottenham Hotspur (73.2 m) White Heart Lane 9. Leyton Orient (73.8 m) Matchroom Stadium 10. West Ham United (73.8 m) Boleyn Ground Phew! Just made it!
  23. I think he COULD get a call up if he were to play well next season. Nothing definite though. Stockdale will probably start soon for Fulham making it harder for him. Also everyone seems to forget about Ben Foster, went down for Birmingham however you can see why he won''t get in. Has been called up before. Besides this season Birmingham didn''t let in too many goals, just didn''t score them either. I can see the headline now "Ruddy Awful: Goalkeeper lets in 6 vs Montenegro in England shock defeat." Also can we please not forget in terms of Goals Conceded Norwich were only mid-table at best. So everyone saying "he got us there" I think you could be wrong, out outfield team got us there with goals.
  24. Last year when Doherty and Russell were released, most people saw it as absolute suicide from Lambert who had let two of the teams best performers from the season before go. However looking back on it, Doherty is not doing very well at Charlton in League 1 and Russell has been relegated this year with PNE. Who do you think it will be this year?
