1. Lambert''s a good manager of course but Doherty is no different a player today than he was this time last year. The difference self-evidently is that he is looking a better player this year because he is defending against League One rather than Championship attackers.
 2.
I simply cannot wait to put this arrogant little village team in their place, just really hope the game goes ahead though.
Mmmm, that sounds rather arrogant to me ! Me ? I''ll be happy with a point away from home against one of our closest competitors fro promotion. let''s hope for a solid, professional display from our team.
 3.

You can''t use the fact they might get relegated as an argument though, it''s nonsensical, everything other than attendance makes them bigger, finance, league position recent history, record transfer fee, current squad etc... From the perspective of a player, they''re a bigger club. If Boro came in for one of our targets he''d choose them over us, guaranteed.
Similar population to Norwich but without the county fan base. Sunderland and Newcastle near by too. I must admit that I have always thought Middlesborough to be a "bigger" club than Norwich but I''m not so sure now. One thing is for certain though and that is that they have been more successful than us over the years and their current 2nd division status is a low point in their history. Strange decision of Strachan''s to go to ''boro. Bad choice IMO. If only Norwich had built a stadium with a 32,000 capacity. I always think that clubs whose attendances break through the 30K barrier are clubs of genuine stature.
More successful than us over the years and the championsip a "low point in their history." Maybe if like certain commentators you only regard the history of football as having started with the premierleague in the mid 90s. Think you will find for a substantial chunk of the 80''s and 90''s Middlesbrough were a lower division side.
I''m not interested in defending the assertion that Middlesborough is a bigger or more successful club than Norwich and I didn''t get the impression from Bob F''s post that he is either, but a couple of points are relevant :- 1. Middlesborough was founded in 1876 and is a founding member of the Football League 2. Throughout their 130+ year history, they have only spent two seasons outside the top two divisions 3. I guess that Middlesborough have spent more seaons in the top flight of English football over, say, the last 50 years than Norwich. Perhaps you can supply the exact figures Jim.
 4. David Nwaogu signed for Norwich City as an Academy Scholar at the end of June 2009. He was previously with Reading making 2 appearances for their Under-18s during 2008/9. Whilst with Reading, he was placed on standby for the England Under-16s but later declared that he would prefer to play for Nigeria, his country of origin.
 5. I must say that I have noticed how frequently Lambert heaps glowing praise on Hoolahan. Of course, Lambert should praise players if they have done well bit i have been surprised at hgow often he has singled out Hoolahan for exceptional praise. Yesterday''s reports on the Exeter game in the national press being an example. Perhaps he is resigned to Hoolahan going and his strategy has been and is to constantly talk hm up in an effort to attract multiple bidders and force the value up.
 6. QUOTE How many people have received on of those chirpy little emails that tells them thy have had had posts deleted for ''no reason given'' (or even apparant)? If someone is breaking the Code of Conduct then by all mean delete away but before you delete on a whim, please think about the implications with regards to censorship. QUOTE Interesting thread. It''s happened to me too and genuinely for no good reason that I can think of. I have to agree that I have suspected that when I have had posts deleted it has been on the basis of a whim, or dislike of me as a poster or, dare i say it, because one of the regulars on here, some of whom seem to have very friendly relationships with the so-called moderators, has requested the moderator to delete it because she or he doesn''t like it. A thread was deleted over the holiday period for no obvious reason but I noticed that one of the regulars sustained a bit of collateral damage(non-abusive) and next thing the thread has gone.
 7. Thanks Ricardo, A miniature of Glenfiddich slipped into your pocket. What a thoughtful wife ! Have a good evening.
 8.

Hey Ricardo, all well with you ? Listen, I can''t go out until you have filed your report ........ and I''ve read it.
Sorry Panic, Mrs Ricardo made me eat my dinner first.
Mmmmm, I thought you had stayed for an extra draught Peroni !
 9. Hey Ricardo, all well with you ? Listen, I can''t go out until you have filed your report ........ and I''ve read it.
 10.
my point is . the constant grief and how people talk about gunn . its wrong . if you dont like the post dont answer. i feel the guy deserves a bit more respect than the constant slagging off the man seems to get . he was hardly given a fair chance and has taken the flak for other managers cock-ups as well .people seem to forget he was sacked after a 4-0 away win , how does that make him a crap manager.
I couldn''t agree more with you. I too have been mystified by the unpleasantness directed at Gunn time and time again on this MB. I often read the silly claim that Gunn got us relegated. The club was like a stricken oil tanker heading for the rocks when Gunn took over, there was little chance of avoiding the inevitable. Gunn inherited a hopeless situation but during the summer he cleared out the wannaways, brought in some excellent players and created an excellent squad. the pre-season campaign was the most successful i can remember. Then Colchester United happened. Full house full of expectation, l''il ole Colchester (we all thought here for the slaughter - look where they are now) and Theoklitis - Gunn''s only mistake IMO. One heavy defeat and the McPowers that be seized the opportunity of getting rid of Gunn despite an excellent 4 to zero victory away at Yeovil only a few days later when I witnessed some of the best attacking football from Norwich in years with Hoolahan, Hughes (Gunn acquisition) and Holt (Gunn acquisition) exceptional. Holt of course scoring a hatrick. None of us can prove either way whether or not Gunn would have been a good manager with his own players because he was robbed of that chance but in my opinion he would have done. Enter Lambert who has undeniably done a great job and of course I support him totally. However, the "adulation" he receives from many posters on here does get up my nose. I read yesterday one poster saying "well of course Lambo is the master of man management and it''s him who has got the best out of Holt" ! What botox. It was Gunn who bravely (at the time) spent the bulk of his budget on Holt, it was Gunn who had the vision to realise that Holt would be the next Norwich striker legend and under Gunn Holt had already started to perform. Holt, benefitting from the support of Hoolahan (a man dropped by Lambert for vital matches and a player that Gunn had refused to sell and so made a tartan enemy) scored a scintillating hatrick in 45 2nd half minutes away at Yeovil. Support Lambert by all means, as I do myself, but please stop the rot spewed out on a daily basis about Gunn. it''s ill-informed, misguided, follow the herd, vacuous nonsense. The king is dead long live the king.
 11.
Sorry, I didn''t make it clear, they were asking Col U how much compensation for AB to come to Burnley!!
It was clear to most of us the first time !
 12.
- probably a very cheap bench warmer(I hope) with potential. His record is not very good, but he was once considered for Fulham. Perhaps PL, or one of the others, feels that in time he could develop.Seems the end for Curo, loan for Cody?
Very surprising - we need players that we know can make a positive impact now to enhance our chances of promotion not players that may or may not develop in the future. Very odd.
 13. Why reveal you live in Attleborough ? Hope you don''t get your tickets cancelled now. What a nasty, spiteful so and so Cowling is.
 14. Yes, Holt has been superb, great credit due to Gunn and Butterworth for persuading the Board to allow them to spend what was a large proportion of the budget on one player. Fully justified as it turns out.
 15.
surely if it was a signing a press conference will be called instead of a story in the edp . i bet foulger has pumped more money into the club. the money must be comming from somewhere for the new players we are signing , i thought we were skint.
Agreed, a new signing is breaking news and not news that can be delayed until the next day. Mind you this is Norfolk
 16. IMO excellent news. I think we can still overhaul Leeds.
 17. I don''t get to see many matches but the ones I have seen Doherty has been solid.
 18. I wonder how many of you are confident that we will win at Colchester ? I too will be pleased to get this match out of the way and even moreso if we win. If we do win I will crack open a bottle of champagne. Good to stay humble until after the match is over !
 19.
Agree entirely with the sentiment so far on Pongo, he would have been a great bonus for us this season in League 1.    As mentioned, quite why Uncle Fester deemed fit to excommunicate him God alone knows as I doubt very much UF did.  It was such a  shame as the lad was one of the few redeeming features in the first half of last season and surely could have done no worse than some of the other lepers we were saddled with on the second half? Good old Fester! Lambo would have sorted him out a treat and I can just imagine him eating up the middle of the park the season and bombing forwards down the left.  “Come back Pongo, all is forgiven”
More ill-informed rubbish about Gunn I see. Gunn got rid of Fotheringham - any complaints about that ? At the first opportunity, Gunn immediately brought Cureton back from Barnsley but only after the damage had been done -by Roeder''s decision to ship him out to another club fighting to avoid relegation - now that was stupid wasn''t it ?- so, any complaints about Gunn''s decision to remove Curo from Barnsley ? Of course not.  Gunn knew very much what he was doing in both these examples and it is only your blinkered dislike of "Uncle Fester" as you describe him that makes you suggest that Gunn did not know what he was doing in regard to Pattison. As you well know, the only reason why Fatty Matty came to Norwich was because of the time he spent with Roeder at Newcastle. He did throw an almighty strop when Roeder was sacked and Gunn decided he had become a bad influence on the rest of the team. Good decision and, yes, the much maligned Gunn knew exactly what he was doing - Fatty Matty was a poor player anyway. Where is he now ?
 20.

Ilove the snow to,bcos it makes my garden look the same as everyone''s garden
Great post!![Y]
And it covers cats poo too!
Slightly off topic maybe, but why does dog poo not turn white these days like it used to when I was a kid???? [^o)]
I had to laugh out loud when I read this because I have wondered about this too, not often I hasten to add, but it has crossed my mind from time to time !
 21.

When Cureton returned to Norwich he wasn''t given the opportunity of playing alongside tall, muscular front men such as those mentioned. Under Roeder JC hardly started a game and when he did, laughably he was played up front on his own with balls beong lofted to him from the back. Roeder''s tenure as Norwich manager resulted in JC''s confidence being completely undermined and he never had the opportunity since to regain it.
Well, he played alongside Chris Brown, Dion Dublin, Ched Evans, Carl Cort, Grant Holt, and, er, Darel Russell (okay, scratch that last one). All of them, except possibly Evans who isn''t a target man as such, are the sort of player Cureton is supposed to thrive with. But without exception,  no matter who he played with, he had no pace, showed little awareness or work rate, and of course his scoring record wasn''t up to much either. As for Roeder... well, okay, man management is hardly a strong point of his, granted - but he often didn''t play on his own. Maybe now and again which is daft but I think he got a fair crack at the whip, as he did under Grant, Gunn and even Lambert also. Roeder even made him captain on a couple of occasions which isn''t really the action of someone who had it in for him. But whoever he played under he proved ineffective by and large. I know he was top scorer in the Championship for Colchester when he signed but the fact we paid so much for him, on a three-year contract was absurd. He might have scored 14 goals in his first season back and scored some really good ones too but it was obvious even then he wasn''t up to it - two brief bursts of form gave him a respectable tally but other than that he''s been a bit of waste of space to be honest. I have nothing against the guy at all, it''s a real shame it didn''t work out for him and I wish him luck at wherever he goes next but he''s never really been good enough for us.
Oh, do be fair. Carl Cort ? For goodness sake. Dion Dublin ? When Curo played alongside him, as much as I admired Dublin, DD was at the end of his career and couldn''t cut it up front in anything like the same way as the three strikers I have mentioned. Brown, Evans and Russell ? No similarity at all to Iwelumo, Akinbiyi or Roberts so irrelevant to the point I was making. Grant Holt - maybe, but by the time he played alongside him Curo''s confidence and pace had gone. In any case, how many minutes did Curo get to play alongside Holt ? Like I said, the facts speak for themselves - when Cureton was partnered by tall, muscular, "put it about" centre forwards such as Iwelumo, Roberts and Akinbiyi he was at his best and scored lots of goals. Therefore, when Cureton came back to Norwich consecutive managers clearly did not play to his strengths. To my mind it was a bit of a no brainer. Cureton won the golden boot award in the championship playing for a pretty mediocre Colchester side, the difference was that he was playing alongside and off Iwelumo.   Anyway, it''s all academic now and I think we are all agreed that if we can offload Cureton to another club it will be in the best interests of Norwich City and probably for Jamie.
 22.

"Arthur "I’m a daft racist pensioner" Whittle"]I didnt say Jamie was a leech, I said that for Wiz to call Bryan Gunn a leech when he got us relegated, you have to class Jamie in the same bracket i.e. they were both part of the team that took us down, and have earned a few quid. I dont actually think any of them are leeches, i was simply responding to wiz calling Bryan Gunn a leech."   Fair enough , but King Canary did !
Again, no, he said exactly the same as what Arthur said. That in the context, Cureton is as much of a leech as Gunn was. King Canary has taken some stick for no reason in this thread, everything he says has been correct, if fairly obvious.
Cheers JTG. I dont think Cureton is a leech and neither is Gunn. Both were paid wages by the club for jobs that were, in all honesty beyond their capabilities.
Good to hear from you and your friend that you definitely don''t think either Gunn or Cureton are leeches because of course they aren''t/weren''t. You wholeheartedly endorsed Arthur''s statement "which sounds a bit like leeching to me." so forgive me for thinking that you concurred with his opinion.
 23. Mmmm. I do hope we win ........ but I''m not particularly confident. I recall the old homily "he who laughs last laughs loudest".
