What did we learn today

Recommended Posts

Not much except Ayala looks a cultured CB good defensively and excellent distribution.  Elliott Bennet looks up for it best performance of City player.  James Vaughan took chance very well but must stay fit.  On the downside Lappin, Crofts, C Martin and Barnett look limited and we must pray we do not need them next season.

I would imagine some of, or all of Lappin, Crofts, C Martin and Barnett could well leave the club before the season starts.

Lappin seems to be used by Hughton as left back cover, I expect us to bring in competition for Tierney though.

Crofts was a bit player last year, and doesn''t look like he''s going to push out any of the new players we''ve brought in since we''ve been in the prem.

C Martin never really got a chance in the Prem, but with a host of championship clubs supposedly after him I expect him to probably leave

Barnett is an iffy one. He''s looked good in pre-season so far, and did alright in the games he played last year. Our defence still needs sorting out, so could well play some part yet.

Looking at the side that started today, i think Hughton wanted to see the players he might have doubts about, might also suggest why so many scouts were there aswell (cant have all been there for Peterborough players). Perfomance team wise i think we''re still in the getting fitness stage and would expect the players he wants to use as a first 11 to start getting a bigger proportion of the matches within the next couple of games.

I think to move on up we need to replace Crofts and Lapps with younger versions with potential who fit the wage structure i.e what we''ve been doing most of the time anyway. I think if someone bids a half decent amount for C.Martin then he''ll go and the same with Leon.

*sigh* I dont know why people think Martin is leaving, Hughton and/or Birmingham were interested in signing him last season. He wont leave.

[/quote] Birmingham and Hughton were not Premier League last season , Martin , Crofts and Lappin need moving on they just are not top flight players and we cannot keep players on just for old times sake.

I don''t think C.Martin can be dismissed an not being a top flight player when he''s only been given 4 games to show it either way. I''d still rather have him in the squad than Jackson who has already proven he isn''t prem level standard, yet I don''t see many suggesting he gets moved on...

Think C Martin will be a B-ham player come the start of season, seems they like him and Hughton might have a card to play here.

In fairness,Chris Martin worked his socks off at Posh and linked up well with Moro. He seems to have done some work to bulk up his upper body a bit and looked very strong on the ball. He has less pace than Jackson but much more of a football brain and I think he''d be a decent squad player this season. As for Jackson, his pace gets him into good positions which he then squanders because of his lack of desire to mix it physically. He''s a very poor imitation of Vaughan, who looks sharp as a knife at the moment and whose finish was the outstanding highlight of what was, let''s be honest, a pretty dull game.

If Vaughan can continue to shine in the Ajax /German game I can see him being guarnateed one of the front two spots, can you Beauseant?

I don''t think anyone will be guaranteed anything in this squad CA, but he''s certainly looking very sharp and is making a very strong case for himself. It''s easy to see why he''s had so many injuries, though, because he gives everything 110%, even in friendlies.
