Not sure that he understands what Grant Holt is all about. Yes he will pick up yellows and reds for the way he tackles up there but he has created a fair few goals from tackling/hassling defenders.

He puts the fear into defenders to clear early and make mistakes and takes the pressure off the midfield when he plays.

Pundits tend to see only what they want to see.   If they watched him like we do - seeing him week in week out  - his skill and ability at putting the ball where he wants to - whether it''s passing, crossing, shooting -  they would more readily understand his abitity.  I think that it is starting to sink in to some of them that he is much more of a player than they thought.   To see the variety of goals he has scored - left foot, right foot, head - it starts to mount up.    He''s done it all his career.   If you look at his career goals - he has tremendous variation in the way he scores.  This season - the goal against Liverpool - took out three Liverpool players in his directness,  the goal against MU - fabulous turn and left foot shot, Everton skilful twisting turn and  shot,  looping headers, Saturdays inventive finish, etc etc.    He has that ability to do what he wants , whether its passing or scoring - and he works hard for the team.    The pundits are though  being forced to sit up and take notice at what we have seen over the last three years - that he is one tremendous footballer.

Hadn''t seen this when I posted my thread (hardly surprising given last reply was before noon, at the time!). Whatever is said in the comments, it is a decent result to be considered in the best XI of the weekend. The sending off was a bit silly, a tackle that just wasn''t needed, but Grant was back on form.

By that reckoning, Crooks was 10 times the player you are (given he actually played), and is 10 times the pundit you are (given he is actually being paid to be a pundit). I''m amazed Crooks has put Holty in his team of the week or whatever it''s called... If anyone else also witnessed how quickly he dismissed Holt on Final Score when asked if Grant should be on the plane to the Ukraine, you''d have screamed ''Binner!'' (I know I did, scared the living daylight sh1t out of my mother whom I was visiting).

BTW Garth Crooks also looks like a toad but that''s for another discussion...
