Baldyboy 1 Posted November 6, 2011 yet again at fault for the first Villa goal!!! everybody slating Barney but Naughton shouldnt have allowed Agbonlahor to cross for Bents tap in!!! He has been at fault in the last 3 games for at least 1 goal we have conceded. I know he is young but he needs to get closer to the attacker to stop them getting so much space to run at him!! grantroederdisaster 0 Posted November 6, 2011 In fairness our defence were run ragged by a Villa attack that were stronger and quicker! Obviously if Barnett would of chose to put the ball in the stand rather than the suicidal backpass that led to Villas 2nd goal we would of likelyu dreq the game but Villa may of scored another time instead. Anyhow in the lead up to Villas 1st goal one of the their players handballed! Our fullbacks have been some of our strongest players. I certainly have more faith in them than our CB''s, particularly Russell Martin whos starting to find the going hard!
Gingerpele 0 Posted November 6, 2011 I wonder how much abuse you will get for suggesting Naughton isn''t a world class superstar, I got quite a bit last week...
BGG&YPOS 0 Posted November 6, 2011 I am starting to get worried about our defence, thats 6 goals conceeded in the last 2 games. On the highlights on MOTD, it appeared that most of Villa''s threat came from our right hand side, could this be our weakness with Bennett covering and Naughton, both a bit lightweight. smooth 114 Posted November 6, 2011 If you see the replay you will see that barney comes across to help naughton and try to cut out the cross, doesn''t get any contact to the cross. The cross then goes past a challenge from R. Martin at the near post and Ruddy. It was a great cross but if three defenders slide in to try and stop it, you would hope one would. But I don''t know why barney left his central position instead of covering the near post.Agbonlahor was outstanding, I think Naughton is a good right back, is he excpetional? of course not, yet. But I feel assured that he won''t make major errors, a young man learning but certainly has settled in well and even last week when he was tested for me he was my man of the match.Again we have come up and had a specific budget I would say we picked up some very good players who have added a great deal. So in january we can re-assess but I don''t think Right back is an area we need to change quickly. Don''t think R. Martin would have had a much better day against N''zgobia and agbonlahor. Largey 0 Posted November 6, 2011 How would you have stopped Agbonlahor? I don''t think anyone would have. The cross should have been blocked before it got to Bent.
canaryfan68 0 Posted November 6, 2011 To be fair to the defence, our midfield yesterday was too lightweight. As soon as Bradley came off we were struggling. How we play 3 creative players (2 wingers and Wes) when we needed a bit more muscle just baffles me. Yesterday I saw Collins and Dunne who showed that committment that we seem lacking at times. As mentioned earlier, we probably wouldn''t have picked Martin and Barnett as a central partnership but they are not doing the basics properly. Both Martin and Barnett should have put the ball into the stand yesterday but as they didn''t we conceeded goals 2 and 3.
nick 0 Posted November 6, 2011 Are you mad? The only good thing about our defence yesterday was our full backs. Very attacking and did their best against 2 world class wingers. Naughton isnt the first to be skinned by agbonglahor and certainly won''t be the last. Plenty of better players than Naughton have come off worse
Aggy 944 Posted November 6, 2011 Tierney looked very good going forward, about our best player in my opinion. Naughton was skinned far too often, and we didn''t seem to press the ball enough in the wide areas. Also, Bent was left unmarked in the box far too often, and on other occasions he was marked, but very loosely. You can''t give players of Bent''s quality so much room in the box.
Oz Canary 0 Posted November 7, 2011 If we lose Naughton or purchase him in January as Spurs have advised that he will be sold, would this be a good purchase & does this allow us to bring in another loan player and save De Laet from being sent back to Man Utd. Aggy 944 Posted November 7, 2011 Personally, with both Naughton and De Laet being long term loans until the end of the season, I would suggest the best way of going about things would be to leave them both here as loanees and sign a centre half, if we''re going to spend money at all.Naughton has looked good at times, but also been sloppy on occasion. He''s young though and so if he developed more and cut out the mistakes throughout the course of the season, no problem with looking into signing him, but at the moment, I''m not sure I''d want to shell out lots of money on him when centre half is probably the more pressingly urgent matter (in terms of quality and team organisation, not numbers). CDMullins 498 Posted November 7, 2011 Agbonlaor would have ran any full back ragged on Saturday. Naughton is no slow coach, Agbonlahors turn of pace is frightning!
