Overall they were sharper and more mobile than us. When they broke they got the ball (and men) forward quickly and exposed our complete lack of pace and understanding in central defence, while we passed the ball around allowing them to get everyone behind the ball. And, of course we had Coco the clown in goal.

There are 6 reasons we lost, and each one is a goal by Colchester conceded by incomepetent defending and goalkeeping under the guidance of Captain D''OH!-erty.  If not for those 6 goals, we''d have tied.   Can you believe that?  We could have score 5 MORE GOALS AND STILL LOST!

On a positive note, if we concede 6 vs Yeovil, that will show we are indeed improving.
Reason 6 = Gunny can make a sandwhich, but cannot make a team.
Can you prove that, have you ever seen the man make a sandwich? Two more serious reason though6 - Gunn has admitted he prepared the team to win the pre-season friendlies, but not to be able to compete in the league (this is perhaps the most single bit of football mismanagement I''ve heard of and is only matched in its stupidity by the fact that he admitted it...and then went on to thank the stewards rather than apologising).7 - He waited far, far, far , far too long before making any substitutions

We were outplayed because the spine of our team consisted of three partnerships that lacked any pace at all:

1. Doc and Nelson, who each have the turning circle of an oil tanker.

2. TJ and Gill; not much better, and

3. Holt and Martin, both of whom lack any pace for a forward.

Plus a highly suspect goalkeeper, and a right back who is always an accident waiting to happen.

As the late great Bill Shankly said, there''s nothing much wrong with the team that a dozen new players wouldn''t put right. Though, actually, less tahn a dozen woudl do: change the keeper, put Spillane, Adeyemi and Macdonald (each of whom is far quicker) into the three partnerships listed, maybe give Maric and Askou a chance and find a right back and things may look a little better.
