[edit] Early life

His father was a keeper for the Gambian national team and his family moved to Watford, England when he was seven, and then to Peckham, South London.

[edit] Career

He came to prominence when as a 13-year-old, he scored 132 goals in 32 games[1].

He was approached by various agents, but eventually signed school boy forms with Millwall, under the watchful gaze of coach/agent Harry Gerber. His prolific form continued, and he was allowed to talk to other clubs by Millwall - both York City and Leyton Orient showed interest, but Millwall turned down Colchester United''s 50k offer. In return, Millwall agreed a contract, whereby he was guaranteed two years of football at senior team level, on him signing full school boy forms.[2]. Due to make his Millwall F.C. debut on 22 February 2003, it never happened and he never fulfilled his promise, playing out his two professional years in the reserves.

In the summer of 2004, after being released when his Millwall career failed to take off as expected, he joined Spanish side Cádiz CF [3], and was then loaned out for season 2005/6 to Málaga CF B.[4]. Despite being a regular in the England Under-20 side, he was forgotten in Spain as a transfer target by British clubs.

He returned to English football after Ian Holloway signed him on a free on transfer deadline day, August 2006 for Plymouth Argyle[5] signing him to a two year contract. Cherno made his English League debut on 30 September 2006 as a second half substitute (74th minute) at the Ricoh Arena against Coventry City, and within 8 minutes he scored his first league goal in a 1-0 win for Argyle.

In January, 2007 he joined Wrexham on loan for a month, with the option to extend to the end of the season [6]. After three appearances totalling 88 minutes, with all matches resulting in defeats, Samba returned to Plymouth on 26 February[7].

Samba was transfer listed by Argyle manager Ian Holloway in July 2007 with Holloway stating "With the young strikers I''ve added this year, I can''t see him breaking through". In August 2007, it was rumoured that Samba was on trial at Championship side Norwich City. [8] He was released by Argyle in December 2007. [9]

0n 8 August 2008, Samba signed an 18 month contract with Finnish side FC Haka, he was released from his contract in February 2009.

On 3 December 2008 it was reported that English Premiership side Blackburn Rovers were interested in signing Samba, following a trial period at the club.[10]

He had an unsuccessful trial with English League One side Swindon Town in the 2009/2010 pre-season and is currently looking for a new club.[11]

Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm but this player just had a trial with Swindon and their fans described him as dreadful!

I think in his defence he has spent a lot of the last few years in the reserves which is not shown here.  No idea if he has scored in the reserves though.

Cannot see what he has to offer us ahead of Cody or Marting or any of our youngsters.
yeah meant to put that...strange move that...no steer?
Steer has a knock and Rudd is with England atm.I guess the next in line is a 14 y/o, so probably not the one to call on.  At least Lee-Barratt has disappeared.

I actually like the lower leagues these free agents and rough dimonds.Reminds me of CM when you manage in the bottom levels and search for unknown foreigners and free agents that was the fun bit of the game when you became a big boss and won everything the fun waned.I still remember staring at a screen years ago and jumping when my Dag and Redbridge team beat Manchester United 1-0 in the fa cup final get in!  4-2-4 formation direct two wingers 20 crossing and two mammoths with 20 heading in the middle.Memories now lets sign Micheal Duff and Tonton Zola Moukoko
