Camuldonum 0 Posted September 2, 2008
why is it called the pinkun? my work mate thinks it sounds like a gay website
Because traditionally Saturday evening football papers were printed on pink or green paper - this was the same all over Britain. In the days before TV and the internet they were huge sellers - it was quite common to see queues outside newsagents because it was the only way to get a match report of that day''s game. At one time Newcastle''s Saturday evening football paper - also called the Pink Un - was selling nearly 400,000 copies across the North East. In recent years they have become totally uneconomic to produce when you add on the cost of distribution - in any event they are beaten to the punch by running reports on the net and on the many forums.
