Peterbrough want 5 million for Aaron McLean

This will be of interest to our Wolves fan.  Wolves have made two bids for McLean and good old Barry Fry has stated they want a deal worth 5 million, 3 up front, a further 2 of wolves go up and a sell on clause.  Fry has also said that McLean would take wolves up.  Now I won''t deny that he has had a fine season for peterbrough, but it''s a big step up and for that money Wolves or any other club would be mad to pay it.  For one thing he may struggle like Billy Sharp.  Anyway all of views welcome especially for those who think he is worth the money.  I am a big fan and anything upto a million is worth the risk, but that is too big of a gamble for a championship club.

  Typical Bazza - they want to hang on to him because I think they fancy back to back promotion to your neck of the woods.  He claims Wolves have made two offers - the last one £1.5m and he''s rejected both of them.

At least Sharp was playing in League 1 before signing for Sheff Utd, McLean was playing in League 2 last year!  And people were complaining that we were rumoured to be paying up to 3.5m for Ameobi?

fair play to Fry, at least he stops teams sniffing around the player, pity we don''t do that rather than alllowing ridiculous clauses.

watford, sheffutd are intrested as well although the players has said we favourites which nice to hear

we signed stearman 1.6m today and still chasing berra of hearts for 2m although complications has come in due to the owners being new and in lithuania so he prob wont end up coming

jones is tipped to be signed by end next week

so we deffo splashing the cash this summer and they all look great to be honest

mate in all honesty wolves have done the big money thing and gone tits up

just nice for once wolves to be chasing and signing the right people. we dont broadcast our signings. nowhere before its announced have i seen wolves chase vokes or wolves chase stearman

we8 the reason why some people are a little less tolerant at the moment is because we really don''t want to hear about all your great signings, and how much money you have spent. We have had one free transfer and our squad is decimated. These are stressful times.

completly agree and people seem to forget wolves went through exact same spell 2 pre seasons ago. i know what it is like mate trust me. im usually try and lighten the gloom n doom but can tell how some stuff i write annoys people. usually its already posted before i realise it.

I would agree with that - maybe go to £1M but defo no more.  He looks good against poor quality opposition but he is far from the finished product and for the money motor-mouth Fry is quoting you could get a lot better.

question has to be

mick mccarthy scouted kightly when at grays and signed him the same time mclean was being sold. (mclean went about 3-4weeks later)

mclean got sold for what 100k

so what does mick see now for us to offer 1.75m but not 100k 18months ago

What you have descibed there is perfect scouting.  Good players generally only come cheap when they either are not playing, are unknown or have a release clause.  Now back when Mclean was available at 100k he was unknown and would have been seen as a big risk like freddy eastwood or your very own kightly.  Now that Mclean has smashed in a lot of goals in league football clearly his value has skyrocketed. 

Now to be fair to managers scouting younf players is diffidcult becuase you are looking at potential ability rather than acual ability, but thats why clubs employ scouts.
