season horribulis

Recommended Posts

just when you think city are showing some improved form, it all goes pear-shaped against a hardworking, hungry team - we''ve got the quality to do so much better - v. frustrating.  in fact, what a cr@p season!Started well, upto second place, intl break - then nose dive, relegation form - worthy goes.  pg in - some signs of revival - plays full squad against port vale in cup - lose, then get hammered back back in the potteries to stoke - crofty injured.  ship steadies.i really believed that we could beat ipswich, and make strides up the table - make some sort of effort to reach the top 6.  result - no show and we show poor form after.  earnie injured - directors gamble with city''s champs status - they get out of jail with the goals of new hope martin and resurgent hucks.  directors gamble by not signing martin on pro terms before he gets into the first team.cup run brings excitement, and chelsea display brings hope - cardiff and colchester displays bring despair.  can we win grants mini league challenge and get into the top 10, or finish bottom 6???  i doubt if anyone can make a confident prediction, even granty and the players.hope for next year though - martin looks the biz, if earnie stays - we could have a top strike force.  i trust PG to get the bodies in we need for midfield and defence to mount a serious challenge for next season.

Knowing how much we need the money I would imagine the club will cut its costs by rebadging last seasons "higlights" DVD as this seasons "highlights" DVD, I doubt if anybody would notice the difference. And before NN and the "truth" police come knocking at my door, this post is made "tongue in cheek"

We are football''s equivalent of the little girl with the little curl in the middle of her forehead. Apart from the obvious comparisons (and WLY''s hair is straight) its that: When we are good we are very very good and when we are bad we are horrid.

I''m afraid I don''t think we do have the quality to do much better - with the possible exceptions of Hux and Earnie I don''t believe any of our first team could get into the first choice side of any of the top 6 to 8 clubs in this division. To me that says it all.

For me this season has been better than the last one;  at least there are now small seeds of hope with a new manager who seems to recognise where the problems are and looking to reshape the squad accordingly.

This time last year was one of the lowest ebbs as a fan I can remember;  fan in fighting,  a manager who would not accept and or not recognise there were fundamental problems who was being supported by the board,  meaning that the following season was already a lost cause.  That for me was the real seaon horribulis
