Canary in the Forest 0 Posted October 29, 2006 Following the motivational feedback from Peter Grant is there any danger that the top players will make themselves unavailable? Or is it just coincidence that Safri, Earnshaw, Huckerby and Ashdown are now hors de combat? [:@]
canary cherub 1 Posted October 29, 2006 It did cross my mind too Forest. As previously posted, the No.1 rule for a new manager must surely be to get his players onside before he starts slagging them off in the press. We have enough problems already without a manager who has not so much lost the dressing room as never had it in the first place . . . Things would have to be pretty terrible for Hucks to throw a sickie, especially if he still wants a new contract. Safri has never managed to string more than a dozen games together without injury. Ashdown doesn''t have to bother, he''s going back to Pompey in a couple of weeks. Earnie doesn''t look very happy and hasn''t scored since Grant took over, but if he wants a move he''ll put himself in the shop window if he''s got any sense.Verdict: unlikely but not impossible. ca 1 Posted October 29, 2006 No, I think thats unlikely and all 3 were unfit.
cuckoo in the nest 0 Posted October 31, 2006 More likely to be eating Delia''s hors d''oeuvres... It''s just bad luck but highlights the fact that we haven''t got a strong enough squad.
Evil Monkey 52 Posted October 31, 2006 If the previous manager, who shall remain nameless, had built a "squad" we would have sufficient back-up and thus wouldn''t be having this discussion...
can u sit down please 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Not a chance. If they hate it that much would they not wanna put themselves in the shop window?
Hayden 0 Posted October 31, 2006 oh come off it!If they can''t take constructive criticism they want their a**es kicked, they are grown men for goodness sake who get paid well. I guess Grant wil have to bring in a box of Kleenex in on loan at this rate
canary cherub 1 Posted October 31, 2006 cuckoo in the nest, I have a feeling in my water that you could also be Canary in the Forest . . . And who are you really? Are you trying to cause trouble? You don''t need to bother, we have quite enough already thank you.If you have inside knowledge you owe it to us to provide evidence. If not, please shut up. Fat Barman 0 Posted October 31, 2006 I used to find Robert Fleck revolting -but I loved what he did on a football pitch! [:P]
ZLF 334 Posted October 31, 2006 More than one person have indicated that there was ''nothing wrong'' with Safri but he chose not to play - clearly pure gossip but has anyone else heard this too? In which case perhaps there is something going on.

Hanging them out to dry in public from day 1 is not very clever imo.

whoareyou? 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Why defend the players? They are the ones who go out on the pitch and ultimately win or lose the game.If players ever refuse to play then frankly i don''t want them wearing a City shirt again! They have all had it too easy for the last 18 months, it''s time some of them started earning their ludicrous wages!

We''ve had 2 managers on the trot explain that the jobs they''re given before a game seem to get lost on the players once they''re in a match. They have to take responsibility, and if this revolt idea was true, which personally I think is highly unlikely, then they should have their wages stopped as per a strike. But I''m sure it''s not, and Stoke/injuries are down to things other than conspiracy theories. Although life on the forum would now doubt be less interesting without them...I really hope we win tonight. The atmosphere on this board is so much more enjoyable when things are going well... canary cherub 1 Posted October 31, 2006 Who''s defending them? No one is suggesting they''re refusing to play either, except possibly the mysterious "Canary in the Forest" who appears to have fled the scene . . . Nor do I think they should never be criticised in public, but it''s a weapon of last resort and I hope he hasn''t exhausted the rest of his motivational repertoire just yet. As previously posted, he can say whatever he likes behind closed doors and add a few expletives too, if he thinks that''s what is needed to motivate them.I trust you''re not suggesting that it''s OK for PG to slag off the players in public simply because a) he''s pissed off with them, and b) it''s what some fans want to hear. Oh dear . . .

I think i''m just trying to ensure that there''s a balance between blaming the manager and blaming the players...I''ve also been wanting to add that this thread is a little unfair...I mean, I know Earnie''s not pretty, but Hucks is a fox...[}][{]

Oh dear . . . [/quote]Meant to add that the difference between a private and a public slagging off is this. Say it in private and the players have a chance to respond - I think the expression is "a frank exchange of views". Say it in public and they don''t.All of which is a longwinded way of saying that I think he''s been a prize prat. Let''s hope he learns from it, and has not deposited such a huge pile on his own doorstep that he can''t climb over it . . .
