a1canary 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I''ll answer my own question first - because he''s a striker.BUT, the guy ought to have the talent, no, does have the talent, to do what Croft has been doing. Giving us another outlet down the right, taking the pressure of Hucks, stopping the whole team playing lopsided down the left hand side of the field all the time. That was one of our biggest problems last year and seeing Croft now makes me wonder why we couldn''t have got the same out of WLY. He can finish as well, probably better, he has the ball skills to take people on, he can cross, can spot a pass... Still, maybe it is all down to the fact that he just plays better up front, and if Earnie get crocked i think he is the best cover, not Leon. In fact i''d go as far as to say he could play instead of Earnie away from home as someone has already suggested Leon could do.
still holding out for new heroes 0 Posted August 28, 2006 Id actually play McVeigh instead of Robinson
Citizen Journalist Foghorn 0 Posted August 28, 2006 McVeigh doesnt have Croft''s pace, hence he isnt as effective in the wing. He also was far more effective on the left wing because he could cut inside onto his right foot as well as crossing with his left, he cant as easily cut inside onto his left boot. Huddy 0 Posted August 28, 2006 SimpleHe''s not as good and as pacey as Croft.
Herb 0 Posted August 28, 2006
Id actually play McVeigh instead of Robinson
Robinson has been looking OK so far this season. So he''s not had the transformation that say Etuhu or Colin have, but his performances have been pretty solid and he''s still improving. Nice goal on Saturday too. Marty 0 Posted August 28, 2006
SimpleHe''s not as good and as pacey as Croft.
Actually I don''t think Croft is that fast, in a head on race I think many full backs will beat him, however, he seems to have the right combination of short distance acceleration and ball control, skill etc. I would not necessarily back Croft over McVeigh in a 100 meter race. Basically he seems to have a better combination of winger type skills and he also looks confident, but McVeigh is also a talented football player and maybe this sort of competion will be good for him. Ramrod 258 Posted August 28, 2006 WLY is the cover for Croft too.
Tumbleweed 106 Posted August 28, 2006 Also Croft is more stocky and seems better physically to shake off a challemge whereas WLY gets easily shoved off the ball, despite his sometimes tub like appearance and lower centre of gravity..
JJ 0 Posted August 28, 2006 Easy answer A1. Go up to a Norwich fan and ask them these questions.1) What position does Croft play?2) What position does Mcveigh play? The answer to question 1 will always be "right wing".The answer to question 2 will either be "right wing" or "striker" (possibly even "left wing" - i''m sure he''s played there). And there''s the problem. Mcveigh is a talented player in both positions but not talented enough to hold one down permanently in the way that the likes of Earnie and Croft are. Hence why he is the perennial utility player and used as cover rather than an automatic first choice.
