A thread for memories of our first promotion to the top division. Here are the results and tables from 50 years ago today Screenshot_20211009-094038_Facebook.thumb.jpg.772950967839e1b204b167cc32722c7a.jpg

I was there. Dave Stringer got away with a blatant shirt pull in our box and some Sunderland fans had a fight amongst themselves  in the bar over the ability or otherwise of their right back a chap called malone.

Happy days!

My God, you've got a brilliant memory. I think you should take over this thread! I was only 12 at the start of that season. We've had way better teams but the excitement and atmosphere sticks with me even now

What a season!

The opening 3-1 against Portsmouth was my first trip to Carrow Road 🎉

Was that the time that Pompey took occupancy of The Barclay?

I can't remember much about the game other than we were one down at half time.

50 years ago today we beat Cardiff 2-1 to stay top of Division 2. A notable game because it marked the first goal for City by David Cross and an injury to Duncan Forbes who didn't return until March.

50 years ago today we beat Hull 2-1 away to stay top. Was anyone there? Highlights from MOTD

I wasn't there because I wasn't born but this clip is taken from a great video from the mid 90s, "Match of the Day: Norwich City" which I got when I was about 9. Initially back then (for a very short time!) I thought John Motson said "Kevin Keegan in goal" and thought that the Newcastle manager of the time used to play for us as goalkeeper 😂

When Keegan was at S****horpe we bid £20k for him. They said no and held out for £25k😱

Wasn't Ron Ashman manager at the time? I remember they used to take a few of our reserves who couldn't get in the first team.

Can you remember what season Eamon Dunphy called us "animals"? I think it was the Saunders era.

No. It would have been late Lol Morgan or early Saunders.

Dunphy did call us animals which was a bit rich coming from him. Nasty little ****. He wrote a book about the 72/3 season called All In The Game and made the statement in that. He was very bitter that Millwall lost out to us and Birmingham in 71/2.
