Aidan Fitzpatrick

Another one bites the dust. Just goes to prove how tough and unforgivable the world of professional football has become. Hope he can rescue his career somewhere, but it obviously won't be at level he believed it would be when he joined us.

Probably the case, but too early to say for definite. Plenty of players have been rejected by one club, but gone on to make it elsewhere. To be fair it's rarely the case with players that we release. We let Bobby Zamora go when he was 16, but that was a long time ago. But good luck to Aidan Fitzpatrick for the future.

350k fee,  seems a little excessive.

Hardly a free transfer and a punt?

We probably earned that back in loan fees last season

There will be lots of room for him in Scottish football at the very least where he'll get regular minutes which is what he'll be needing now. He was a much fancied up and coming player at Partick Thistle, but he took the opportunity to come to us and it's not worked out, but he will have benefited.

I sincerely doubt Queen of the South are paying that much for a loan fee.

I'm not sure he will have done. He joined as us an 18 year old already breaking into the first team and has spent two years playing reserve level football. His career has basically stalled.

All it shows is that the club's standards are very high, with a particular way of playing that not all players will be quite suited to. Sometimes a player will lose his way slightly and all can see that a change may be beneficial for him.

Not a write off, just a change in direction  - good luck to him.

Dion Dublin is perhaps the best example.

Thankfully it is Ipswich who constantly embarrass themselves in this respect, Nick Pope the latest in a long line!

Don't be silly, from Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship?

Be lucky if they covered his wages yet alone gave us a loan fee.

350k isn't at all excessive for a punt tbh. In that season we also signed Dan Adshead, Archie Mair, Rob Nizet, Rocky Bushiri, Charlie Gilmour, Reece McLear, Melvin Sitty and Sam McCallum. All 'punts', some were probaby a lot more than 350k too, but only 1 has to turn out half decent and it's profit.

Would be interesting to see how many u23s players we sign are genuinely signed with the first team in mind.

350k is not alot of money to us now. £350k is worth a risk surely. If 10 of these players don't work out at that price but 1 does, like Godfrey then it's all worth it surely.
