YankeeCanary 0 Posted December 14, 2005 ''Twas The Night Before Christmas‘Twas the night before Christmas, and sad at the groundNot a player performing, from the crowd not a soundNigel clung to his job like his hands had been wiredHis post match rhetoric fell short of inspiredNorfolk’s dumplings were nestled all snug in their bedsWhile fans fired attacks at each others heads“We want to go forward but now we’ve gone back”The boring debate’s on “Who else can we sack?”When down at the ground there arose such a clatterThe police force turned up to see what was the matterIt was a televised fantasy on a big screenA game of good football by the yellow and greenThe players danced, they weaved, they passed and they scoredDelia did somersaults while every fan roared It seemed like a miracle to the most deserving of fansAs singing and happiness was back in the standsHow was this feat managed the masses enquired?By Santa Claus who stood at the manager’s side With laughter and bear hugs to players one and allAs he told them to frolic, it’s only a ballThe screen went black and the illusion did tooBut Santa’s last words were heard by a fewThey heard him exclaim ‘ere he drove out of sightGood times will return and to all a good nightMerry Christmas Everyone! This is the second year I have "borrowed" the sentiments of the author of this wonderful piece, Clement Clarke Moore. When he wrote it over two hundred years ago, being a modest and loving man, he wrote it for his wife and children. It took a friend to submit it to a newspaper some time later.The words I chose simply tried to recognise that, for all Norwich fans, regardless of the mixture of disappointment ( in some cases despair ) and frustration at our team''s performance this year, we all have the candle burning in hope no matter the size of the flame.
