The Positive Brexit Thread

Recommended Posts

another day, and yet more evidence of how brexit is destroying the UK economy

''It is now three months since Boris Johnson declared that his Brexit deal would be unalloyed good news for UK businesses and consumers alike. But the true picture is graphically illustrated by a new survey of 125 UK and Dutch firms that do business between the two old and close trading nations.

Whether it be trade in chocolate bars, electric bicycles or malt whisky distilled in Scotland, the reality for exporters, importers and customers infuriated by orders being delayed is mostly negative.--

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/apr/04/from-bikes-to-booze-how-brexit-barriers-are-hitting-anglo-dutch-trade-hard

“Three months on, two out of three companies experience a negative impact of Brexit. They are struggling with increased costs [71%], red tape [63%] and delayed shipments [59%]”

And there lies the horror that awaits. This mess is not some minor hiccup that can be sorted. It is the permanent loss of 'free', fast and almost zero restrictions. Now replaced by a huge amount of red tape, cost and delay. And when you have "UK civil servants have been advising British companies to investigate setting up subsidiaries or warehouses in the Netherlands and other EU countries, to get around post-Brexit paperwork and charges including VAT. " then you know things are really fcked up.

Is that what these new deals were to be. UK companies having to relocate to the EU to survive ? Taking employment and revenue abroad ?

What happens when the UK has to start customs checks on imports in July ? What happens when "“This is not even the full picture. With the bulk of UK veterinary, and sanitary and phytosanitary inspections to be implemented as of 1 October" ?

Just like the thickos in Spain who thought that removing freedom of movement did not apply to them, so the brexit thickos in the UK are not aware of how much restriction is still yet to be implemented.

There's a piece in the latest Private Eye about a shortage of Official Veterinarians (OV). In the past a large proportion of OV's have been recruited from Europe but numbers have dropped off so much that DEFRA have asked the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to significantly lower their English Language skills so that they can recruit from Turkey. The RCVS approved the request but only after 11-10 vote in favour.

One vet said all the training in the world will be of no use if they cannot communicate, he also said that "all these things were foreseen" during the Brexit negotiations.

The current minister responsible for DEFRA is George 'Useless' Eustice.

Cameron Teague

Lives in The United Kingdom

I work in finance and for some years, I was at a major German institution. What my fellow British people have not been able to observe is just how annoyed many EU countries were by the UK's decision. Not because of any philosophical beliefs about European harmony, but solely due to business reasons.

Too much focus is placed on the City losing jobs to Continental Europe, but no one mentions loss of global customers based in London. In my case, the FX business has its epicentre in London and it is more difficult for the German institution to market its new products without passporting and only equivalence which can be withdrawn by UK if EU stupidly does this first.

All I can tell you Swindon is when our US company expands into Europe, the UK is no longer on our short list, but Ireland still is.

No, it's because Johnson promised to not split the UK and then split the UK. Brexit backlash like we told you would happen for years.

Who's rioting in the streets? Soveriegn UK citizens that's who. Perhaps they think "freedom" from the EU means freedom to riot.

I thought, according to you,  we were supposed to be independent from the EU after brexit. Your lot negotiated and signed up to the deal and that's what they are rioting about. The EU has no role to play in the behaviour of UK citizens.

Boris talked about an open border the EU are stopping that

The EU is “fully committed in a constructive way to find solutions for those problems,” Vale de Almeida said. But he added that it had to be “within the limits of the protocol that we have agreed not long ago.”

Vale de Almeida stated that the EU was open to making the protocol “more flexible,”

the UK is enforcing border controls with the EU , only it is being done inside UK sovereign territory

the problems this would cause were consistently raised before the referendum and in the years after

unfortunately thickos like you chose to believe Johnson’s lies

Only you could quote something that proves your own claims to be false.

Which they have a perfect right to do as this is the deal that the UK signed up to. This has been entirely caused by the UK excluding itself from the single market and refusing to match EU quality standards. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
