Surfer 1,547 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) No it's Boris repaying a donation to the Tory Party. Standard nonsense that both parties are guilty of. Edited December 10, 2019 by Surfer
Surfer 1,547 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) However this link is much more interesting - Mr Hannity, who may really be in legal jeopardy over Ukraine scandal doing his best to gaslight America again: (hint the IG report says exactly the opposite of what Hannity is and has been claiming, the FBI investigation into election interference was NOT started based on the Christopher Steele report for a very simple reason: that report came out LATER) And the interesting development that Ivanka Trump had a personal relationship with Christopher Steele is not mentioned.... This could be your UK media future if the BBC & Channel 4 are "disciplined" or "defunded" 😞 This is why the role of media should be considered in the same way as the armed forces. We have (very expensive) armed forces funded by taxation to protect our democracy, we need at least one national news organization funded by taxation to also protect our democracy. Surfer 1,547 Posted December 10, 2019 RTB you don't "know" of any Jewish people threatening to leave the country in all likelihood, although I can believe that you don't "know" of any colored people threatening to leave the county either... you really believe that the Jewish people who have thrived in Britain and across the world despite centuries of anti-semitic behavior are really scared of Jeremy Corbin? Rock The Boat 1,332 Posted December 10, 2019 3 hours ago, Surfer said: I suggest you are deliberately deflecting or are misunderstanding the point here - journalists are supposed to uncover THE TRUTH , not just be a stenographer that repeats every item of gossip and propaganda that occurs. Maybe she wrote it (she claims she didn’t) but the role of a journalist is TO FIND OUT. She just wrote “I assume it’s genuine” - now a member of the public might think that but a journalist is paid to dig deeper and REPORT FACTS. The BBC and ITV tweets on the “punch” were other examples of terrible reporting that must stop if we are ever to have a proper political discourse in the country. The UK cannot let itself become like the US with 1/3 of the country fed daily lies by the President and his Cabinet via Murdoch’s Fox “News” and Wall St Journal and by Sinclair Broadcasting. Nothing will be done if Boris gets a majority, but something must be done if there is a hung Parliament to get this poison out of politics. I think you have an old-fashioned, if somewhat romantic, view of journalism, Surfer

Creative Midfielder 1,996 Posted December 10, 2019 2 minutes ago, Rock The Boat said: People read and listen to what they want to see and hear, not stuff that challenges their worldview In many cases yes - why else would the Daily Mail and Daily Express still be business? But there are still quite a few of us who expect 'news' to have a significant factual element to it. In any case my question still stands - why on earth do Torygraph readers pay to read copy produced by journalists who apparently are doing nothing other than reproducing other people's propaganda which is freely available for nothing on the internet? Seems to me they are wasting their money, after all there are oceans of propaganda freely available on the internet whatever it is that you want to see and hear. There are almost literally an infinite number of echo chambers freely available out there but if I'm paying for a news service, whether on paper or online, then I expect considerably more than that. He has been busy working for me, renovating a pretty rundown chateau on the banks of the Layon (a tributary of the Loire, as you know). And a decent job overall, although his marquetry skills leave a lot to be desired, and I had to get a specialist in to re-repoint his repointing of the crenellated parapets.
