We don''t call it lying these days Jools, we call it alternative facts. Funny how Trump is this pinnacle of truth and everybody wants to lie about him isn''t it? It''s almost as if he''s a fraud and the thickos like yourself can''t see the wood for the trees.

Do I believe that Trump never lies? No.
Do I believe Trump has not paid all his taxes? Yes.
Do I believe Trump has sex with women and pays them to keep schtum? Yes.
Do I believe there was Trump/Russian collusion and that swayed voters enough for them to vote for Trump? No.
What''s your point exactly?

I was going to come up with some "amusing" ways that Trumpists would twist the pipe bombs story but I took too long. They''re already at it.

Mid term elections on Tuesday. We'll get a read on what the American public feels about this administration then. Early voting totals have already exceeded those cast in previous mid-term elections in several States (mid term elections - i.e. those in the middle of the four year Presidential term - tend to skew towards much lower turnout than Presidential election years and an older electorate, as a result typically a more Republican oriented electorate). So all that can be said at this stage is the electorate appears to be very motivated to cast a vote to approve / disapprove. Democrats closing arguments are focused on Healthcare, President Trump's (and hence Republicans) on Immigration / Homeland Security.

Interestingly, the reporting about 15 pipe bombs mailed to Democrats and CNN, and the murder of 11 Jewish worshipers - both by white males who appear to be ardent followers of President Trump's policies - are pretty much being ignored as election issues, the pipe bombs story has almost disappeared as nobody was killed.

New job numbers ahead of Tuesday's election were good (+250,000) but essentially unchanged since the previous administration.

Yes that is what is happening - the country is essentially split 50 / 50 and in the Senate (6 year terms, 1/3 up for re-election every 2 years) the majority of seats under contention were Democratic seats in more rural and hence Republican states, so likely to favor gains for Republicans - and it did; meanwhile all of the seats in the House of Representatives are up for re-election (2 year terms) and the Democrats were favored by 9% by the polls going into the election so likely to favor gains for the Democrats - and it did.

Then there is a growing city to rural population divide very similar to what was seen in Brexit - more rural, less educated, whiter districts responding to blatantly racist appeals to keep out the brown skinned invaders v's city suburb, better educated, ethnically diverse districts responding to affordability of healthcare issues. Neither group cared much about the economy apparently - i.e. it's good enough to not be an issue one way or the other.

What happens next will be interesting. Unlike in the UK after a General Election, the same Congress will go back to work until Jan.

So two more months where Republicans who have control of Presidency, Senate and House of Representatives, could choose to cram through legislation on a range of issues before the House of Representatives switches to Democratic control mid Jan. With Democrats in control of the House of representatives, they in theory will have control over the Budget and Taxation, not President Trump & Republicans. Democrats will also have control over the investigative committees, so on Russia, agency corruption etc there is potential for a lot of fireworks.

Stay tuned.

Someone sounds worried this morning -

If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!

Easily explained - see the sharply rising budget deficit during times of economic growth! Estimated to be 4% of GDP this year - unsustainable and worrying.

Some random quotes this morning -

National: "The three states—Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania—that narrowly put Trump over the top in 2016 were won by Democrats tonight in the Senate and Governor races"

"A major victory last night: for the first time ever in the history of our nation, more than 100 women will have a seat in the House".

---

Trump on the midterms: "I thought it was a very close to complete victory.”

Trump: "We had a slew of historic wins in the Governors races." Narrator: "The Democrats had a net gain of seven Governors seats."

White House aide grabs and tries to physically remove a microphone from CNN Correspondent Jim Acosta during a contentious exchange with President Trump at a news conference

-----

"The Democrats’ gains did not extend to the Senate, where Republicans claimed conservative-leaning seats. Many of the most competitive races were in heavily rural states."

"Oh so 9 million more people voted for Democratic senators than GOPs, resulting in...[checks notes]...the GOP gaining three seats."

----

California: "Putin loses proxy war in Orange County as his minion Dana Rohrabacher is defeated by Harley Rouda"

Michigan : "Can't wait to see Pence's face as he swears in two Muslim women on the Qur'an

Colorado: "The Colorado cake baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple now has a gay Governor"

Kansas: "Democrat Laura Kelly has defeated Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach — a key ally of President Trump — in the race for Governor"

---

Georgia: "Why are a disproportionate number of malfunctioning electronic voting machines, voting machines with "missing" power cords, and polling places without enough paper ballots in neighborhoods that are predominantly African American?"

Under Kemp (in charge of the election infrastructure and simultaneously Republican candidate for Governor) Georgia purged more than 1.5 million voters from the rolls, eliminating 10.6 percent of voters from the state’s registered electorate from 2016 to 2018"

Florida: "Black women in Florida voted 89% for Hillary in 2016. And we’re supposed to believe that that margin went DOWN BY 7 POINTS in 2018 for Gillum?! NO WAY! This is just NOT credible. Something is up."

A great night for democracy and the orange buffoon is now severely handicapped in the ability to pass legislation, as well as the brain.

His press conference strop was legendary.

Midterm election most House seats lost by President's party in power;

2010 Obama: -63

1994 Clinton: -52

1958: Eisenhower: -48

1974 Ford (Nixon): -48

1966 Johnson: -47

1946 Truman: -45

2006 Bush: -30

1950 Truman: -29

1982 Reagan: -26

2018 Trump: -26

That's not a "blue wave".

A great night for democracy. The combined forces of Democrats, Hollywood, mainstream media, Facebook, Youtube, CNN, SJWs, Universities, Obama and the Clintons couldn't get the landslide they were predicting. All the Democrat senators who voted against Kavanaugh lost their seats. Trump for 2020 let's MAGA, buttercups.

"Oh so 9 million more people voted for Democratic senators than GOPs, resulting in...[checks notes]...the GOP gaining three seats."

It's called structural advantage RTB - when House seat boundaries are set by the politicians themselves (Republicans by far the worst offenders) a 9% advantage / 9 millions advantage in votes can mean fewer House seats gained and Senate seats lost... go figure huh?

To illustrate how gerrymandering has a direct impact, Austin is the 11th-largest city in the United States, and Travis County broke 75-25 for @BetoORourke. And yet, the county is sliced up between _five_ congressional districts, only one of which elected a Democrat last night.

Make no mistake the Trump administration is very worried this morning.....

So here we go - the President just held a 1+ hour press conference today, and avoided a specific question about Geoff Sessions' future 🙂 I wonder why?

Is it related to: "Donald Trump Jr. Expecting to Be Indicted by Mueller Soon" ?

Sessions resigning means that Deputy Attorney General Rosensein will in theory be no longer in charge of the Mueller investigation - unless the new acting Attorney General recuses himself (which he should as his law firm represents the president's campaign, but he got a secret ethics waiver this Summer apparently). Will Whitaker try and shut the Mueller investigation down?

We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well....

Quotes: "The president should not be allowed to pick the person who oversees the investigation into himself. Both for that principle, and because Whitaker has written a blueprint for shutting the Mueller probe down, he should recuse himself"

He didn't resign. He was fired. Where is Rod Rosenstein right now?

Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigns: “At your request, I am submitting my resignation.”
