o/t. inspirational role model

Recommended Posts

Wayne Rooney.

All-time England record top scorer.

Former any-time scouse granny hooker record top scorer.

Now charged with drink driving.

Hey kids, this is what a £200grand a week football role model is.

Money has ruined the game.

No more good old role models like Moore, Best, Greaves, Worthington, Adams, Merson, Gascoigne, Mark Dennis, Cruyff etc etc

He''s made a mistake, been caught and nicked and will be punished. He''s hardly the first ex-England captain to be caught up in a bit of a scandal and he won''t be the last. Beckham/Loos, Terry/Bridge, Ferdinand/Drugs, Gerrard/Nightclub assault. Then there''s the likes of Messi and Ronaldo being called into court for alleged tax fraud.

I think I''ll ban my kids from watching football...

I don''t believe the role model aspect is relevant but I do not think the punishment he, or any other person caught over the limit, will receive will be sufficient. I know Rooney isn''t the brightest but especially after the drunk lorry driver incident on the M1 when youngsters like his own kids were involved, just smacks of negligence and arrogance.
If a chap can get six years for trying to steal Andy Carroll''s watch, then drunk driving and its potential consequences should carry something similar.

It''s still a silly thing to do, Personally I never drink and drive, I work on a ''no alcohol'' policy, if I''ve had a drink at anytime that day I don''t drive. It''s a shame as after a drive to Norwich sometimes I''m gagging for a ''wet'' but as I''ve got to drive back after the match it''s a no, no.  Rooney, knows he will be in the papers when he does this sort of thing.

Drink driving is not a mistake!

There was a time when it was common place, acceptable even, in fact having a car meant you could go to more places for a drink. Times change and so do attitudes, thankfully.

Nowadays it is never acceptable. The average man may be tempted and make a wrong decision, but in normal circumstances it cannot be justified. For someone who can employ their own driver for a year at less than a fifth of one week''s income and never have to think twice of how to avoid drink driving it is an absolute disgrace.

Don''t think anyone has tried to excuse it. It was a stupid thing to do and I imagine he regrets it; that''s why I called it a mistake, the hope is he learns from it and thankfully nobody was hurt.

Doubt he''ll learn from his mistake Duncan, he hasn''t learn from any of his other mistakes over the past 12 years if you want to call them that and some of them have been big mistakes.

Lady in question who he was driving home in her car has now sold her story to the papers so once again its his family & kids who suffer for his stupidity

That''s a big statement. Didn''t realise you knew him so well!!!

Glad I''ve never been in court in front of some of you lot...
