  1. It sounds just like many of our 'supporters' on here 😉
  2. Time to move on from this nothing game. Whatever the reason the team didn't turn up. With hindsight no injuries was the main thing. Fifth or sixth didn't matter. Either way it was Leeds or Southampton. A successful season and all anybody could rationally ask at the start of the season. Play off lottery to follow. As good a chance as anybody. Let's just hope the squad get their heads straight and are up for it. It's a pity and rather sad all the negativity from some on here.
  3. I see the blame game and infighting in what's left of the Tory ranks has begun.
  4. I'll let you ponder why Farage, ERG, Reform wanted Brexit - and the economic liberalization (c.f. Truss) that they hope had to follow to 'do Brexit properly'. The latter part won't be a vote winner with you! Immigration is but a small part of the plan but useful dog whistle. It needs sorting nevertheless.
  5. Yes - The Tories have 'enjoyed' for decades no splitting of the vote on the right unlike the progressives / Labour (we have always had the Liberals / LD / SDP etc). That's changing and I guess the Tories if they survive at all won't like it much! We headed for far more centrist or coalition positions in the future.
  6. Must admit I was very sporadic poster pre-Brexit - usually preferring not to get involved in the personal often un-grounded opinions which made no odds about this player or that spats. I seem to recall getting more engaged p o o - p o oing the 'points deduction' debate as to how we 'stole Lambert from Colchester! I note my own posts are climbing now - not sure that's a good thing or sign 😉 - but I suppose it goes with having more time to debate and actually I think this forum is very very good in general for this - mixing people with clearly very different backgrounds and experiences, even ages, but all with some common ground (OTBC) and for the most part we can agree to disagree - but perhaps learn something anyway. The world isn't black and white or even yellow and green (definitely not blue at present)!
  7. This is very much the 1973 Labour view - the idea we could be isolationist on our own terms harking back to empire. It's not on the menu today. We aren't a big enough economy/ super-power to ignore Europe. Either we go with the European model of the welfare state (and its then necessary protectionist barriers as in the SM / CU) or we go with the US free for all model (aka ERG, Farage, Reform, Truss).
  8. Minor parties - or those intent on being so - always can afford to come up with crazier or unimplementable ideas. Reform, Tories, Corbyns Labour, Greens and LDs. Yes.
  9. The LDs need to sort themselves out though with a clear vision. Pro-business (and with that EU cooperation), self-reliance but fair state support for those that need it or when s h i t happens as it can to any of us.
  10. Yes - I think most of the attacks on Labour are actually infighting for the same ever more right wing voters between themselves and Reform. Rwanda and 'culture wars'. They should learn you can't move ever more rightward, vacating the centre and still expect to win. I may have noted before - I'm typically a split voter - tended to vote conservative in the locals and centre left in the GE - simply I want my money spent wisely locally (Norwich) and not on ideological schemes but all within a centre left envelope. This time I didn't see the traditional Tory party on the ballot - they've left ( i.e. the Heseltine, Clarke types) so it was LD. The rump Tories deserve their upcoming electoral annihilation.
  11. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/24295172.brandon-lewis-mocked-twitter-election-post-mix-up/ "A Norfolk MP has been mocked after urging his constituents to vote in their local council elections... even though there is no such poll taking place. Brandon Lewis called on people in Great Yarmouth to "vote Conservative today" to "keep council tax low and maintain great local services" in a post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. However, there are no council elections taking place this week for Great Yarmouth Borough Council." Some mothers do 'av 'em. Seems like Brandon Lewis is so removed from Yarmouth and what should of been the 'day' job he didn't realize there are no polls there today. It's really quite shocking.
  12. I'll be honest - I'm just leery of over-hyping Rowe. He certainly has potential. The team however has to be greater than the sum of it parts. Rowe was certainly clinical and composed earlier in the season and was adding/improving to his game (particularity better defensive duties) but I'd like to see a whole season and not just a purple patch.
  13. I think that's probably a good call. If there is any game where we might start him it's this one and see how it goes.
  14. My guess is that although he'll be rested for B'ham Wagner's being a little coy.
  15. Whereas we all want the current ceasefire/hostage talks to quickly & successfully conclude yet I can't help but recall the words of a couple of months ago of a senior negotiator who had done similar deals as this in the past. The gist of his comments / concerns was along the lines - you can't expect Hamas to capitulate (release the hostages) if at the same time you state you are then going to come in and kill them (Hamas) anyway i.e. invade Rafah. They have little reason to engage. On would hope that Netanyahu's talk is really only for domestic purposes as the US and Europe has basically forbidden such a military expedition and if attempted would likely extinguish what residual support Israel has left. Biden would likely have to be seen to act. Some sort of way out for Hamas needs to be found. Perhaps sensible compromises and heads can prevail whatever stories you tell the public ?
  16. As many as that ? I'm not sure who's being optimistic but just desserts anyway for doing a deal with the populist devil. They'll pass into folklore and as a warning for other political parties.
  17. Never mind. If they don't blow up on Saturday (Leeds will anyway) we'll just have to relegate them next year 😉
  18. I think Huddersfield could well surprise us à la Maidstone - but even f they did win I fear Leeds would still lose anyway!
  19. I wonder what the take-up would be of voluntary returns if we gave them each instead of £3,000 say £10,000 each. Got to be a whole lot cheaper the 2,000,000 each... Economics hasn't recently been a Tory strong point though!
  20. I just assumed the guy was a little tiddly - and let his mask slip. He simply inferred that a highly prestigious British lawyer - KC - who has risen to be the Chief Prosecuter of the ICC (and Assistant Secretary General of the UN) was prejudiced simply because of his 'race'. He even got that wrong as the smallest bit of research will show. It was clearly a racist comment. Not much more to be said is there. Just ignore him and his like.
