1. Yesterday was a cracker, with the best atmosphere from Norwich fans at an away game that I''ve experienced in a very long time. If truth be told we were a shade fortunate overall to get a point yet (once again) stepped up second half and at times Leeds were chasing shadows. First half, though, we were almost overrun and could well have gone in two or three behind.   As far as this whole ''anti Leeds'' thing is concerned, it would be good if we could now give this a rest and move on. Sure they have (arguably) more than their fair share of idiots and the ''trouble'' they may have kicked off at recent visits to Norwich deserved condemnation. That said, I encountered absolutely no problems at all yesterday. Inside the ground their fans in the vast East Stand (lower tier) were very close to the Yellow Army yet I saw little if any signs of threatening behaviour, intimidation, violence and the like (which if you believe the hype from some City fans) is what I should expect at Elland Road. If anything was likely to wind them up it was the booming   ''Leeds is a s--t hole, I wanna go home'' song yet the home fans seemed content to take it and simply watch the game! I''ve certainly seen far more overtly aggressive behaviour from away fans (Hull anyone??)  Arriving at the rather strange looking ground with the towering East Stand dwarfing the surroundings, fans mixed before the game and many pictures were taken off the stand and the Billy Bremner statue. The recent floral tributes were due to an anniversary of the Galatasary murders I found out from talking to one of their fans. Post match, there was no segregation as we left the ground (that I could see) and, again, fans mixed freely and without issues. Got talking to one who asked about the journey, said what a top game it was and wished good luck - top geezer. So, in summary, I didn''t get punched, kicked, stabbed, threatned, nor did I have to cower under police riot shields as the Yoorkshire mob attacked us poor, innocent Norfolk souls yet if you believed some of the hysterical hype over the last two seasons from City fans, that is what I was letting myself in for by visiting Leeds. Perhaps I was just lucky, perhaps it would have been different had we won, who knows. I prefer to think the whole Leeds thing has been puffed up over and above the reality. A few years ago it was Wolves, now Leeds. Time to concentrate on the football and move on please.
 2.

Apologies for yet again repeating this detail
Shame it''s not entirely accurate. Huckerby played in the very next game so presumably wasn''t that badly injured.  I think Helveg did get injured but wasn''t out for that long, just that Worthy decided not to play him again until quite late on for some reason.  And yes Bentley got a bit of a whack.  But so what?  It''s one of those things, could have happened anytime and ultimately we simply weren''t good enough. And did Burnley ever get that memo about cup runs preventing promotion, by the way?
You''re absolutely right Graham! Pity Paul Moy doesn''t get his facts right. Re Huckerby ''injury'', I went to Villa Park which was the match immeditaely after the West Ham game. It was Dean Ashton''s debut and the boy Hucks played in that game. (as you rightly point out). We did NOT lose key players in the West Ham game other than Bentley (who was not an automatic first team choice anyway). I just find it deeply embarrasing to even think of our shambles of a cup record for the past 15, 16 years or so. How refreshing to listen to people like Malky and Mick McCarthy who are clearly treating the competition seriously and want to progress. You won''t get any of this ..........''glad to get that out of the way, concentrate on staying / going up'' rubbish from these boys!.
Can you substantiate that with a link bearing in mind your blind certainty ? My recollection is that Huckerby sustained a calf injury and missed at least one game.  Not that I don''t believe you.... LOL
http://www.norwichcity-mad.co.uk/rprt/mtch/aston_villa_3_norwich_city_0_199494/index.shtml Hope this link works Paul.

 4.
Were not in a recession.......Everyone still has money. And ticket prices aren''t ''far too high'' Earlier in the season, someone posted up averages from all the championship clubs, and although we were high up, we weren''t the highest! Its quite simple, if its too much for you don''t go. The club are trying to make enough money, to pay of debt and to give Lambert money to spend on new players, charging £15 for a 2nd vs 3rd game in the championship, wouldn''t help that .. (even £25... 25 x 26,500 = £662, 500......... £33 x 20,000= £660,000... So even at 20,000, which is less that will be sold, the club will be making only a little bit less, but add the extra 4,000 on top of that (there will be at least 24,000) Thats another £132,000.... Oh look more expensive prices, even if 1/2000 less people, makes more money!)
You might have mate but a lot of people are now losing jobs (or will soon) and many are having zilch by way of pay inrease whilst fuel prices and general cost of living rises inexorably. Note - I''m not a rabble rousing ''left winger'', quite the opposite in fact!   Your basic maths is spot on but the fact is that our casual prices are too high and we are ripping customers off. Cardiff are being fleeced for £33 tomorrow I believe? Too expensive when added to the coach fare, petrol cost etc. I''ll give you another example. I have a friend and his son both Nowich fans who now live near York. Two casual tickets for Blades game at Christmas cost £64!!! (Jarrold stand). The return next week will cost them £33.50! Now you can spin that however you want but that is an astonishing and quite frankly embarrassing difference. Oh yes I forgot they could pay to be members and wpuld have ''saved'' a wopping £4!! NCFC casual prices are over the top. That may not be an issue at the moment as we ''sell out'' largely with 100% season ticket take up. That won''t carry on forever and then you''ll see the real impact of the curent pricing policy.
 5.

Very disappointing, it''s not like the Gooners are fielding a weak side
I''d put them down to lose 0-5 but to be fair they seemed much more up for it than Arsenal who as you say didn''t field a weak side.
Why? That was never going to happen. I work with many Ips--- fans here at the office in Bury who were all predicting (yesterday) ..........''four, five or six''. Think about it - you''ve just been stuffed 7-0 so there''s bound to be a reaction. You''re at home in front of a full house in a cup semi final against Arsenal and just to top it all off you''re hell bent on impressing the watching new manager. Not to mention the opponents are a load of hyped up, prima donnas who thought they just had to walk out on the pitch and play a bit of leisurely five a side!! I head bits on the radio and feared the worst after 20 mins. or so. Then when it became clear that any rocket the Frenchman had given them at half time had fallen on deaf ears I turned off and predicted a 1-0 home win. No surprise to me at all. Arsenal could turn them over big style in the second leg but I certainly wouldn''t put any cash on it. They have no away goal and Jewell knows how to get through this kind of game. I''m not saying Ips--- will get through but it might well happen!
 6. One thing for sure that return match in April is suddenly looking a whole lot harder. The last three defeats there have been hard to take, sure as hell don''t need another. With The Scouser in charge they will be a different proposition than we faced here a few weeks back.
 7.
Lambert''s body language is a classic giveaway, responding to the question about how disappointed he was, watch him scratching the back of his neck with his index finger (on both hands, but not at the same time!). Yeah, really disappointed, really, really........he did well to suppress a grin....but we pick ourselves up and go again for the big match next wk etc It would be extremely foolish for a team in our position to risk the big prize for the romance of a cup run. Lambo has his feet on the ground and McNally certainly does too.
One answer to this - Burnley 2008-2009 season. Check the stats. Thank you.
 8.

Today was totally (and sadly) predictable as are the comments of so many fans who bleat ................''now we can concentrate on the league''. For Gods sake look at it our FA cup record since right back to 1992 - how many times have we got past the 3rd round and had any sort of run to get the fans, club and city excited? Our record over that time is putrid and embarrassing considering that the great heritage of the club was built on the magic of the FA Cup. Players come and go, managers come and go, directors come and go yet this dreadful record drifts on year after year. I knew this was going to happen so thank god I didn''t waste my time and money. How refreshing was the attitude of Burnley two years ago who gave their fans bucketfuls of excitement with fabulous cup runs in BOTH  competitions AND still got promotion! Perhaps these ''concentrate on the league'' fans can explain that one!  Lets look at what Leeds did last season as well - fantastic result at Old Trafford and an equally pulsating performance at White Hart Lane. They still got promotion as far as I can remember! They''re at it again this season with that draw at Arsenal with 7 or 8,000 fans following them. I for one would love to follow City in matches like that. That''s a distant and very fanciful dream though!
Yep, look at QPR, I bet they''re delighted that Mackie (who I believe has scored as many league goals as Holt) has a broken leg now, just as we would be if our top scorer was seriously injured in a cup that we are never going to win anyway. Plus are you seriously telling me that Leeds'' cup run didn''t affect their league campaign negatively last season? If you have a big enough squad, with enough quality, to effectively have two good strength elevens, then a cup run can have a really positive effect. For the rest of us, it seems too often to be a distraction from the serious business of pushing on in the league standings. We are in such a good position this season, and with our players already showing signs of fatigue, I would far rather we had as much recovery time as possible and really focus on doing the business in the Championship. To be honest, I would rather we have guaranteed games at both Old Trafford and White Hart Lane next season, than in a cup we are never going to win anyway...
Several points here I.S. 1. Mackie could have broken his leg anytime. It was just a freak it happened  in the Cup. 2. Leeds - still got promoted  did''nt they? 3. ''We were never going to win the Cup'' - Man that is a seriously crazy argument. Its'' all about the excitement of pitting youself against unknown opponents and having the potential to get to the latter stages and play some of the biggest teams in the country. Using your argument then there is no point at all in trying to get promotion as we sure as  hell will have no chance of winning it will we!!!
 9.

Quite glad to be honest so we can focus on the league.  We dont need any distractions, look at Leeds they now have the replay to think about, and QPR striker Jamie Mackie whos scored 10 goals or so suffered a double fracture of his leg against Blackburn.  I hope he makes a speedy recovery, but these are the sort of things that can happen. Onwards and upwards, lets win some league games and push on...
WOW, that''s awful news for him and I would imagine that all QPR fan''s are now wishing that he had not played in this game. With Cardiff and Leeds drawing Cup games, Watford winning and us losing we really have put the odds on promotion firmly in our favour. It''s been a good day for us [<:o)]
Honestly don''t know where to begin with all this! How the hell can a woeful performance and defeat to a lower league team at home be ....''a good day for us''   So you actually WANTED your team to lose did you??? As for ''distractions'', thats rubbish. We heard all this in 2005 when we lost at West Ham. Guess what we - were still relegated!!
 10.
i was actually hoping that we didnt equalise in the last 5 mins as I would rather we lost than drew and had to replay. Presumably now we can re-arrange the postponed Boxing day ,C.Palace for 4th round day in 3 weeks time, and whilst others are wasting their time in the cup we might even go top !?!
Sorry geezer but  you seem just as fixated in your anti FA Cup opinoins as others on here. Bet Leeds fans are not feeling like you or Watford fans neither. Our once proud tradition in both Cups is long since gone. Ask Burnley fans what they thought of the 2008-2009 season? It was''nt just getting promotion that''s for sure!
 11. Today was totally (and sadly) predictable as are the comments of so many fans who bleat ................''now we can concentrate on the league''. 12.
if Lambert buys 3 or 4 players and takes us into the premiership then he should be paid what he wants as far as i''m concerned... Everyones a winner, if Lambert has got a pay rise then well done to him.... if he has got a few new signings as a result even better... will anyone actually give a s*it in 12 months if we are a premiership side? i doubt it!
Well you''ve just neatly summed up exactly what''s wrong with football these days - perhaps you should read the best post of this board for years written today by Andy Larkin. IF (and perhaps a big ''IF'' I agree) PL has manipulated this whole scenario to generate a shed load of dosh for himself and / or players that makes his behaviour acceptable and professional does it? So what will you want the club to do next time this sorry state of affairs blows up again, say when West Ham or whoever comes calling?? Give him yet another new contract? Last time I looked the club was called Norwich City Football Club NOT Paul Lambert Football Club.
 13. Andy, when I get to work next week and can access a decent printer I will run your post off, it''s the best and most heart rendering I''ve read on here for many a long season (well until my last post anyway! Sorry). Seriously you have hit nail well and truly on head. If Lambert wanted to stay here in preference to Burnley he would surely say so and kill all this farce off. He is either hacked off that we declined Burnley permission as he really wanted to jump ship and has been persuaded to stay for ''one more game'' OR he is cynically using the situation to try and extract more cash from a heavily debt ridden club. Either way once McNally became aware of Lambert''s intentions he should have helped him pack his bags! At the end of the day we need a manager who WANTS to be here. Sure the boy has done a great job and we will always remember this last, glorious 18 months. Pity PL has become blind to what a good thing he''s got at NCFC. He may well find the grass is not as green on the other side of the fence as he thinks. Even if he stays, things can never be the same now between him and the board (and with some, perhaps many of the fans as well). I personally think tomorrow will be the end.
 14.
oh dear! i cant believe anyone even thinks this is genuine! accrington yellow is a user name made up by some bored binner... Paul Lambert would walk out of a club 3rd in the division to manage a crock of shy*e lower half side who are more likely to be league 1 before they are premiership would he? some people have been at the Christmas Alcohol.
Er, could this be the same club that are actually eighth in the table, one point off play offs, played us off the park for the first half of their match down here, still have a number of damn good players and a shedload more cash than we have?? Yeah - well and truly ''shyte'' aren''t they!! PL may well stay here as I expect him to but I also believe Burnley will make the play offs. Take your yellow tinted shades off and start giving a bit of credit where it''s due mate.
 15. I am concerned at what (within football) must be Holt''s ''reputation'' which is rapidly becoming very public. The boy has many attributes and has more than got back to very top form after a clearly lethargic spell in the September / October period. My worry is that all the accusations of cheating and being involved in sendings off (lets face it the Ipswich sending off was harsh in the extreme) will invariably lead to opponents becoming unnecessarily wound up and someone could well end up ''doing Holt''. If we were to lose him to a serious long term injury you can wave goodbye to the promotion bandwagon that does appear to be building up a hell of a momentum.     I think we could well see the first of these waspy encounters in just three weeks time. We have a poor record at Bramall Lane and their crowd can be intimidating. All hell was kicking off in the last two or three minutes of the recent match here and they will be 100% up for the return. Don''t be surprised to see Holt get taken out in that game. I have nothing against Holt''s physical approach to the game and as we know he''s a real inspiration and leader + being a damn good player when he wants to be.  We had a similar player in Iwan but he very rarely stayed the ....''other side of the line'' and I can''t remember him being involved in a string of incidents like Holt has been. Holt should keep on his feet and concentrate on letting his football do the talking.
 16. Good analysis Pabs - surprised that no-one else has replied (yet). That said, it''s probably because you won''t find many disagreements. Short of major implosion, QPR will soon be out of sight (we will have to play massively better than Tuesday to stand any chance). Cardiff are faltering and could be play offs - they have been in contention for last two seasons and the thought of missing out again could well unnerve them. Not convinced about Swansea but they do play good football - play off spot I think. Leeds have surprised me considering how rank they were in the last two or three months of last season. They have been the best side down here by a mile so far this season. Potential to get second spot. Forest blow hot and cold but if they get on a run then with recent signings you would have to put them down for playoffs. Us? Much will depend on two things, namely a) If Holt stays and can keep his mind on his job. His recent form is a vast improvement from September and October. b) If Wes stays. Without him we simply don''t have that guile and touch of magic that separates the plodders from the top promotion candidates.    Of the rest, Burnley are the most likely to come through - they played us off the park at times down here and would have won easily had they not sat on their 2-0 lead.
 17. And restore the boy Wes to where he should be i.e. 100%, nailed on starter? Don''t get me wrong, no-one should be guaranteed a place irrespective but unless he''s ill, injured or in a poor run of form, I''ve never fathomed out why PL has relegated him to the bench for the last two months. Lets face it we are far too predictable with Wes sitting on the bench. We need his magic to separate us from the other play off / promotion contenders.  I worry about the continuing rumours of contract disputes and transfer to WBA. If the boy is purely just angling for money and doesn''t care who pays him then that''s another matter of course. That said, Wes is probably the most talented player I''ve ever seen play for the Canaries and couldn''t bear it if we''re near the end. Sure he''s infuriating sometimes but the moments of magic and sheer quality far, far outweigh that. Pity some fans still can''t accept what a player he is even now!!
 18.
For gods sake!  Let it be will you!  I bet your the type of person who sits in your arm chair with a pen and note pad waiting for the slightest expletive like ''flipping heck'' to be said on Emmerdale or Corrie so you can write to watch dog and complain!  Or even still, be up against your TV screen with a ruler as Pat Butcher is showing 23% too much cleavage in Eastenders..............ok, i would complain about the last one! lol, but my point is..........Nugent had a bit of a laugh at the fans and with the fans.  We called him all sorts yet he took it in his stride and had a little go back!  What did he do that was that bad?  Hand against his ear, keepie uppies with the ball on his head, massive cheesy grin at us all, and just having banter!  If the fans then react in a violent way then it''s the fans who have the problem!  It''s character and football, and if you misinterperate that for an excuse for a fight and react like a complete knob then you''re the one with the problem!  Wish there was more players like Nugent around!  And for the record, he tore us apart BIG TIME!  End of!
Well  said - I made almost identical comments on main Nugent thread. Only qualification I would make is whether Nugent was making deliberately offensive gestures. I think if he was then that changes things somewhat. As you say it''s a bit rich all this bleating and modern day moaning when we all (or 99% of us I''d guess) still regard the boy Bellars as an out and out God! Just ask Russell Martin about the verbals he got after just the first minute from said player. Just ask the Scunthorpe fans about him, the Rangers fans............the list is endless!!
 19.
I sit in Block D of the Lower Barclay, and there was no offensive gestures coming from Nugent, although there were plenty coming from the Norwich fans towards him! All he done was pull a couple of silly faces, balance the ball on his head and celebrate his teams win. I find it very sad when I see other Norwich fans (grown men!) crying to the police and stewards about what was just a bit a banter. Grow up!
That was what I thought also but you would have had a closer view than me. To my mind there has been no ''history'' between Nugent and NCFC or us as fans so can''t see why some fans are reacting with such political correctness and clear double standards. Bet these same fans still regard Bellamy as a total God yet his antics (for over ten years now) make Nugent''s look like a walk in the park!    As for Neil Adams yesterday banging on about ....''lack of respect'' when Nugent was balancing the ball on his head, so what?? All the guy was doing was having some fun and winding a few people up. Like I said before, if it''s done with a smile and with no nasty or violent intent then I''m all for it. We need some characters in the game. Lets see more of it I say.
 20.
To those people who are saying get over it its part of football, I really question whether you were at the match or certaintly in the Barclay End. That was by a country mile the worst player reaction I have ever seen involving numerous offensive gestures, the ball balancing was also "not showing respect" according to Neil Adams, not much by itself but taken together It was a clear case of goading us and would have provoked a riot at most grounds. The Police by the way are "investiagting" I suggested a Section 4 Offence had been comitted, a constable seemed to agree and said the above. Its shows what a bunch of softies we are as someone should have been authorised to take the scumbag out.
You may have had a better view than me boy although I was watching Nugent pretty closely from the middle of The Jarrold. Firstly, what were these ......''offensive gestures'', as I say I did''nt see them but certainly saw Nugent give out some verbals and as long as it''s just banter we should accept that as part of the game. After all we have two past players to whom Nugents antics were a walk in the park - namely the boys Fleck and Bellamy yet both players are absolute Gods to most Norwich fans!! Sorry mate but if you can''t take it, don''t give it out as many have said on this this thread! As for ''goading us'' - good on him I say, it''s all banter and good to get the atmosphere going. I have no problem with it provided it''s done with a smile and not a snarl. Finally, your last comment is stupidity - this is a football match not some Saturday night punch up down Prince of Wales Road for Christs sake. If the said ''scumbag'' had been ''taken out'' as you tastefully put it, our player would have been straight red carded and now staring down the barrel of a three game ban + all hell would have let loose and we might have seen other players walking as well. But that would have made you happy would it?
 21.
What did you think of Lambo''s substitutions today? I think that, for once, he got them wrong.  McNamee should have been on fifteen or twenty minutes earlier; also why bring on Korey Smith at that time and in that position?
Absolutely - McNamee is an impact player (disappoints when starting games) and should have been on by 65-70 as we needed to try something different and get better quality balls into the box. First half was some of the best football we have played all season and we should have been cruising at half time. Invariably the second half was a less impressive showing as Pomey had made some adjustments and sussed us out. Their organisation was outstanding the longer the game went on with a backline of four (often five) with four midfielders in the line in front. By the time they scored we had totally run out of ideas. OJ (although a different type of player) was essentially a ''like for like'' so what was the point! Macca might have unlocked them. Pity the manager couldn''t see it.
 22. The Southampton game was a good one alright but was bettered by the FA Cup Quarter Final replay win v West Ham in 1989. All these were dwarfed though surely by Bayern Munich - has to be the top game of post ''59 era. The occasion, opposition, live tv coverage and atmosphere. If you get a chance look up your old video recording of the game particularly the final whistle celebrations. Camera homes in on the Chairman who seems to be staring down blankly from the directors box, gripping onto the front rail, totally unable to take in the significance of what was going on (or more importantly what seemed to be the start of a golden age for the boys). Unfortunately within two or three months it had all started to evaporate. That''s football though - I''m still enjoying Sunday but just hope and pray that Pride Park won''t be a case of ....''after the Lord Mayors show''!!
 23.
apparently he has thrown his teddies out of the cot majorly and had a big bust up with Lambert saying he should play every game!!!! I rate him but cant tell the manager what to do, its a squad game and nobody has a divine right to play every game!!!
IF that''s true then there is only one winner in that dispute and that must be the manager. I will be distraught if there has been a bust up and we lose the boy as he''s the most exciting and creative player I have seen play for us for many a long year. Only Huckerby and Eadie IMO had that magic spark to ''get you off your seat''. We''ve had other damn good players (Crooky for example and Martin Peters before that) but few have possessed the genius of Wes Hoolahan. I know he can be greedy and one footed but the boy always plays to entertain and for that I, for one, will always be eternally grateful to have seen him in the canary yellow.
 24.
The bloody music they play full blast before and after the game! Got in a little earlier than usual to hopefully get a bit of pre match atmos, but it was killed by the music played at deafening levels! For big games, it should be lower / off.
Spot on John - I said exactly the same in a similar thread on Friday and to think that McNally wanted us to ...''get there early and enjoy the atmosphere''. I''m sure that damn music just before the start went on far longer than usual. Just when it seemed to get to a natural end it just started up again, it was bloody ridiculous. Even when the teams come out there is no let up in the absurd level of background noise which all but drowned out both sets of fans. Maybe the music is less intrusive in the Barclay but for us in The Jarrold all I could see was loads of arms outstretched in the Barclay clearly singing something and I was desperate to join in but could''nt hear a thing above that stupid din!!
 25.
Maybe watching Norwich City isn''t for you? [;)]
Sure is mate - been going since 1967
