Did we go backwards by appointing Dean Smith?
Loafingstone replied to rock bus's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I don't think Smith is a bad manager. In my view he is doing the best he can with what he has got (in terms of squad). Whichever way you cut it this is not a squad capable of staying in the Prem, for all the reasons discussed on here and in the wider media. -
Time to get my Football Manager CV typed up..

Well I suppose my time as manager of Taffs Well and winning the Cymru South that one time may count for something? 3-5-2 Wing backs anyone? No? I'll get my coat... -
Given our current form, tactics, squad etc. Do we really think we will actually win a game? I will honestly be surprised if we reach double figures in points this season. I would love to be proved wrong. With Farke reverting to the 4-2-3-1 Farkeball or by some divine intervention this 3-5-2 / 3-4-3 / nominal back 4 counter attacking long ball soup working with Kabak being a marauding Libero and Sargent muscling everyone and anyone off the ball Pukki as Poacher supreme. But I just don't see it.

Happy Retirement Alex Tettey.

That's a real shame but an understandable reason to return home. He will be missed! -
Team for Brentford

Given where we are I'd mix it up and give some of those who haven't had a chance a go. So: Gunn Aarons, Omobamidele, Hanley (or Gibson if not fit), Dimi Sorensen Norman Rashica, Cantwell, Tzolis Pukki It's all just conjecture but maybe Sorensen will have the discipline to sit in beside Norman with his more expansive play style. Rashica is right footed so give him a go on the right wing. Ultimately though Pukki needs service in order to score so we need to try and provide him with some. -

He was a fantastic servant for the club and is a wonderful professional. It woul be lovely to bring him back in in a coaching capacity as a gateway into management if that was a path he wanted to tread. -
It feels like a fair assessment of where we are.

Hi all, What is everyone's view on: A) The lineup Farke will go with? B) The Lineup you would go with? C) Prediction for the match. Mine are: A) Farke will stick with 3-5-2. Krul, Hanley, Kabak, Omobamidele, Aarons, Williams, Lees-Melou, MacLean, Norman, Rashica, Pukki B) I would like us to go back to 4-2-3-1. Krul, Aarons, Hanley, Omobamidele, Giannoulis , Norman, Lees-Melou (though that is more best of a bad bunch), Rashica, Dowell, Tsolis, Pukki C) Based on A) I think we will lose 1 or 2 nil. I hope we win and will obviously support the team but the run we are on does not give me much confidence. At my most optimistic we will turn out a turgid 0-0.

Agreed Keelansgrandad Skipp's been a big miss. Essentially we have lost Skipp, Emi and Cantwell for different reasons this season. Our entire midfield has changed and we are worse off for it. Our buy cheap sell high model has its moments (like the money for Emi, Madison etc.) But it needs to be invested wisely. For every Emi we get we get an RvW, or Lees-Melou. Eventually you just get duds and the club suffers for it. Ironically this is the fate that occured to Werder Bremen who were relegated with a similar model, where we picked up Sargent and Rashica from. -
Quantity over quality………

Farke deserves time based on the performances delivered last season. The board will probably give him more time than any other club would particularly as he has brought stability to the position after the up and downs we had post Lambert. Having said that our performances at this level are a joke and I don't see them getting better. We can list all the excuses under the sun: 1) The sale of Emi 2) COVID-19 and a disrupted preseason 3) Significant squad turn over 4) Working with limited budgets and building for the future. Ultimately, regardless of the circumstances we are now in a league that pulls no punches and the team need to perform. It is the manager and his coaching staffs job to deliver not just results but performances that the fans can get behind. At the minute Farke is doing neither. I genuinely don't believe we will get to double figures in points this season given what we have seen so far. It is unbelievably depressing to know we have another 33 games of this to go. Undoubtedly with Farke in the dugout.
