£10m Cantwell to Sheff Utd... no chance
All the Germans replied to Tommo's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I get the point, I think Cantwell is worth more than 10m and I don't want to see him go. But. Maddison was (is) special and Cantwell is not as good as Maddison was, even before he left us. Edit, sort of forgot to finish making my own point.... and it was obvious that Maddison would easily take to the Premier League, so whilst still a gamble - they always are - it was a small one. -

I thought Aarons was superb last season but his size has really been his weakness this season and I think he is easily bullied. I don't think that Lewis has a football brain / enough quality to his attacking play (just having a good engine to 'be forward' doesn't make him good enough at attacking, he often makes the wrong / the easy pass when he is forward) and Godfrey has everything, apart from the natural defensive knowledge and positional play - physically and technically he is there. I think (in almost reverse of what I thought at the start of the season) that Godfrey has the best chance, if he can be coached to be a better defender and Lewis and Aarons may struggle to 'make it' at a big club. If we could just combine the best parts of them all, we'd have one hell of a player! Edit, for clarity, I think they are easily good enough for us next season and I would be delighted if we kept them all. I was just discussing their chances to succeed at a 'big club'. -

When I played - admittedly at an incredibly low level - I hated those guys, the ones who shouted and screamed pointless cliches to try to rally us. They never inspired anyone. Ever. I preferred someone who lead by example - like I expect Zimmerman does - than a screamer. -

Fully agree. Exactly. Watford will be saying the same thing (probably not now, as they will be happy) about letting Emi score. Every fan up and down the country (with maybe a select few omitted) is convinced that their team breaks the records and are "along come X club". There are so many stats that when someone scores, there is usually something 'new' or 'unlikely' associated with it. "He hasn't scored with his left foot for 273 years" -

I get it, you're upset that we're getting relegated. We all are. However, if you genuinely think a big shake up is required and that the club is being destroyed, I think you need to find some perspective and get some realistic expectation. There is no Prince on a shining white horse that is going to ride in and change everything. Why are so many fans so "FARKE IS THE BEST AND WILL MANAGE BARCELONA" or "FARKE IS HOPELESS AND MUST GO". Surely the truth - in both the highs and the lows - is somewhere in the middles? Everything is not always either the best or the worst, but I guess that isn't an interesting thing to say. -
I feel very guilty for saying this because I've hated him for 20 years, but Matt Holland isn't actually that bad as a commentator and I find myself agreeing with him. David Pleat, Garth Crooks, Martin Keown, Efan Ekoku, Robbie Earle, Andy Townsend. All terrible. There are definitely more that I'm missing.

I don't know; I don't think so. I think it may be that he is just a bit sh*t. -

Efan Ekoku, he's awful. -

Terrible defending but much better going forward. Vrancic can make a forward pass that puts us on the attack and Stiepermann can hold on to it until support arrives or turn his man. -

Just looked at Norwich City Facebook

No, no, no, we're getting relegated after a poor season, so that means a viable investment opportunity that was offered and benefitted all is now looked back upon as the owners going cap in hands and if the fans hadn't bailed the board out, we've have lost cateogry 1 status / got relegated / gone into administration (delete as necessary to the point that is trying to be made) ... Get with the times. -
Linked with a Danish midfielder...

Fair play. Sounds good. Not sure what standard football is in Esbjerg though - I've been there quite a few times and it's not very big, so I imagine it's not the best. I hope we buy him and he's a roaring success. -

Not by me. We just seem to have a 'thing' for this type of player. We desperately need - and have for some time - a big unit who can run around, tackle and play a forward pass in midfield to compliment this type of player. -

Let me guess, he's 5'8", has a slight build, is technically very good, can pass nicely but is not particularly mobile? -
I'm also at ease with the bigger picture and I actually much prefer the investment in long term youth prospects than a couple of signings that would slightly improve our starting team but still not enough to keep us up (eg Robbie Brady). However, The Championship is a hard league to get out of (Admittedly, Ipswich found it easy last season) and even if we kept all our squad that we want to, it would still be very tough.

Contract conundrums
All the Germans replied to Feedthewolf's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I assume it doesn't have to be agreed by the player, otherwise it's relatively pointless. I assume they 'agreed' it when they signed the contract, but I do not know for certain. PS, good work on the update. Very helpful. -
I wouldn't be worried with Rupp playing, he's unspectacular but I think he can do a job for us. Duda though, should never be in a City shirt again. He's been poor and is going back to the club that owns him, so why should we play him. It would be infinitely better to see Stiepermann play in that position. Why not try to get as close to last years team as we can (Pukki, Hernandez, Stiepermann and Buendia as the front four).
