Snoots 0 Posted May 30, 2013 I''ve just read the article on BBC Sport about the understandable furore concerning Bolton''s new sponsors QuickQuid ! It made me reflect upon our sponsors over the years and realise that apart from a couple of uninspiring ones, Norwich and Peterborough and the odd Digital Phone Company, we have never had to endure an embarrassing sponsorship. Colman''s was probably my favourite followed closely by Foster''s and Lotus/Proton. Aviva too is OK but Bolton fans'' understandable misery over "QuickQuid" made me wonder what sposnors would humiliate me i.e. Birds Eye and the inevitable carrot crunchers jibe, Findus and 6 fingers in every pack and so on ? Any thoughts anybody ? BIFFA or VEOLIA would of course be perfect sponsors for our friends down the road.
The Great Mass Debater 1,202 Posted May 30, 2013 Anything which makes the club look cheap or functional would be poor. I remember Leeds used to have an asbestos removal company sponsor their shirts onceBurger King or poundstretcher would be highly embarrassing...
Gaz06 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Was funny when Portsmouth had TY! I think Watford have Football Manager as theirs which looks a bit stupid. Personally I''m glad we have AVIVA as our sponsor, always good to be affiliated with a multi-billion pound business!
The Great Mass Debater 1,202 Posted May 30, 2013 Portsmouths Jobsite was always a funny one for me, mainly because at first glance I always thought it said Gobsh*te...
Tetteys Jig 851 Posted May 30, 2013 Loved it when we had Lotus on our away shirts! Aviva is a good deal though and makes the most sense. Bolton''s sponsor is a disgrace. They might as well have ''one eyed dave the shark'' on their tops. I wonder if they offer payment plans for their season tickets?I think when (if) the economy suffers, the government need to take responsibility for payday loans and money advice. I guess people will always be stupid and we''d only see underground loan sharks come back.People need to realise that if you can''t afford it, go without. If you can''t afford essentials, go to family or the government advice.
Zak Van Burger 0 Posted May 30, 2013 We had a narrow escape with the Turners, Their "Mobile Money" operation using 19th century chattel mortgage legislation makes the unsecured payday loan industry appear respectable by comparison. The logbook loan sector is under heavy scrutiny from the OFT and attracts a disproportionately high number of complaints from customers and innocent victims. With no legal obligation to register their interest in a vehicle it''s not uncommon for an HPI''ed vehicle to subsequently be snatched without notice from its new owner or for customers to have their vehicles snatched at times and in conditions not permitted by the CCA 1974. A recent C4 programme is under heavy scrutiny as it turns out the repo team filmed for the debt porn doc wasn''t even licensed for such activity making the entire repossession process as filmed by and broadcast on C4 illegal ie a series of criminal not civil offences. Industry practice was simply taken to be lawful by the film makers, the compliance lawyers didn''t check going to be very embarrassing for all concerned. Chunky Norwich 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Both Colmans and Lotus were awesome! The Colman''s logo especially working so well to look like their colour scheme and being synonymous with Norwich. Lotus was just cool. Those were the halycon days when clubs'' sponsors said a little bit about their town or area (e.g. scum with Greene King) Flybe was pretty pants. Worst ever were Bury''s ''Happy Birthday'' one or anything by Wonga or a foreign betting company.
JayNCFC 14 Posted May 30, 2013 The Castle Mall would be a pretty terrible shirt sponsor... Surprised we still have a club shop in there, went in for the first time today in ages and it offers very very little.Primark would also be a pretty worrying shirt sponsor. as they probably could afford to sponsor an EPL team. Evesham Canary 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Palace when they Virgin on their shirts......Wouldn''t want Farmfoods or anything too agricultural as would play up to the yokel aspect!!!I believe there was a bit of criticism of the Fosters sponsorship at the time. Aviva not great for me as I work for another insurer & cant wear the shirt on dress down day!!!!
Yobocop 1,444 Posted May 31, 2013 Castle mall is quickly turning into the new Anglia square Horrible to seeI quite like our current sponsor as it means we have the cathedral as well as the castle on the shirt
ellis206 0 Posted May 31, 2013 Didn''t Brighton used to have Chupa Chops or something on their shirt? Isn''t that a lolly company?
Salopian 1 Posted May 31, 2013 Many years ago, when I were a lad, the official NC programme used to have the teams on a central page, and on a border round the teams was an advertising message. I forget the name of the firm, but I do remember the message "bulldozers and scrap(p)ers". Didn''t do too much for our football!
