chris_sabian 0 Posted July 20, 2012 A little concerned with the potential signing of Snodgrass. He may be very skilful, but he will be another relatively slow player added to the team that possesses no real pace. This was one of the areas from last season that I thought needed improvement. E. Bennett is the only really quick player we have. I''m not saying the whole team needs to be blisteringly quick, but a couple of pacier players would help. Possibly more important altogether with Whitbreads departure is the need for a couple of solid centrebacks.
chicken 0 Posted July 20, 2012 Not sure Elliot Bennett is the only quick player we have. Simeon Jackson is probably faster than he is. Pilkingnton is by no means slow and Butterfield is also no slouch. Tierney has a good bit of pace too as does Howson.I do think we need another pacey striker that can finish mind you. But then Vaughan was fast before his injury - so if he can recover he could be that player.
Skerritt 0 Posted July 20, 2012 Our quick players-Jackson Howson HoolahanVaughan Bennett Pilkington Tierney, Surman has a bit of pace. Our game doesn''t revolves around pace anyway, we play more a a physical approach and we have a lot of strong players in-Johnson, Holt, Morro, Crofts, Bennett, Martin, Vaughan, Barnett, Ward. Lets be aving you! 0 Posted July 20, 2012 Skerritt, I''m not sure I''d class Hoolahan and Surman as quick. I''d certainly rather face those two than Barnett over 100 m (although I''d still lose). Classy touches and stamina notwithstanding, Surman to me always does a good impression of going through treacle.
Shack Attack 0 Posted July 20, 2012 Speed of thought is as important as speed of legs. There are plenty of quick players out there who lack football intelligence. Would they really improve our squad?
Dubai Mark 0 Posted July 20, 2012 I understand your concern but also feel that we do have pace in the team, just not that one player with the pace of a Walcott perhaps. I just think that to get that type of pace and with the relevant footballing ability would probably be out of our budget at the moment, but agree would be very handy to have an ultra pacy player who could do some damage in our toolkit. For me though, top top priority is definately another striker to compliment the group we have now.
ZLF 334 Posted July 20, 2012 It did not hurt us too much last year so while its an attribute I would like added its not essential for me; capability remains the prime requisite. The priorities remain at the back and then a striker...
Viva Marc Libbra 0 Posted July 20, 2012 Totally agree. We lack someone with pace to frighten defenders. Only E. Bennett is genuinely quick. We need someone quick and direct who can carry the ball. This would give us an extra dimention going forward.
Mahogany 0 Posted July 20, 2012 We have something rarer than pace in attack. With Pilkington and Butterfield we have 2 genuinely 2 footed players who like to run with the ball and take a shot. That''s much scarier to a Premiership defender than simple pace as they face it much less often.
smooth 114 Posted July 21, 2012 What I think is interesting is that all have mentioned pace in the attacking sense but not in the defensive group. That is my worry.I do think we do not have premiership pace in our attacking team and we will need that at some point, but I will also say that many defenders in this league were not as pacey as I thought they would be.However defensively fast tricky wingers ran at and through us regularly. Centre halves again did not have much pace... hence why many are asking for a full back and centre half. An upgrade in these positions, with pace has our defensive needs in a much better place. norfolkbroadslim 225 Posted July 21, 2012 Butterfield isn''t quick. His pace has been compared to that of Gascoigne and Le Tiss
