Bill 1,788 Posted March 8, 2012 There have been four England captains who played for Norwich City, a fifth was once made a director of the clubbut who ?
Mister Chops 7 Posted March 8, 2012 Most of these will be before my time, but I''ll get the easy ones:Martin PetersMick Channon
Mister Chops 7 Posted March 8, 2012 Are you counting David Beckham who once played for an NCFC under 11s team?
Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 8, 2012 Scott Parker. Latest England captain and played for us briefly on loan.
Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 8, 2012 Danny Mills apparently once wore the England captain''s armband during the course of an England game, but without ever having being the official England captain, so probably doesn''t count.
Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 8, 2012 Just found this on Sing up the River End site: "On the 29th of February 2012, in the friendly against Holland at Wembley, Scott Parker became the fourth player with Norwich City connections to captain England. He was on loan with the Canaries from Charlton Athletic in 2000, playing six times.Earlier in history, Martin Peters (1971) and Mick Channon (1976) had also held the distinction and both came to Carrow Road towards the end of their careers.Danny Mills, who was a product of the Norwich City youth set up, captained England in the second half of the game against Australia in 2003 when the entire side was changed at the break. By then, he had become a Leeds United player." Don''t know about the director one, though.
Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,223 Posted March 8, 2012 Did Stephen Fry ever captain a celeb England team?......
Bill 1,788 Posted March 8, 2012 "Just found this on Sing up the River End site:"err, that is not really in the spirit of the quizthe names are as listed, with David Beckham being a addition I suppose - though it was strictly meant as Norwich City first team which also rather rules out S.O.B''s suggestion of Stephen Fryso it''s just the director to find
PurpleCanary 6,391 Posted March 8, 2012
There have been four England captains who played for Norwich City, a fifth was once made a director of the clubbut who ?
Alf Kirchen, who started his career with Norwich City, played for England and was later an NCFC director, but I don''t think he had ever captained England, unless it was in a wartime match? Bill 1,788 Posted March 8, 2012 Not him Mr Purple, nor that other famous AlfAlf Tupper the Tough of the Track who once played for City, though missed the start of the game as his bike had been stolen and he had to hitch a lift in the back of a lorry anyway, captain who became a Norwich City FC director

crabbycanary 2 Posted March 9, 2012 This Director, was it football they were captain of?
Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 9, 2012 Good thinking, Crabby! In that case, it could be Captain Evelyn Barclay, a former vice-president of the club and after whom the Barclay stand is named.

nutty nigel 7,902 Posted March 9, 2012 Good quiz[Y] Of course Beckham doesn''t really count. And Rio Ferdinand recently tweeted : - "I actually played for Norwich a few times as a kid before I signed for West Ham. Really nice staff + YD officer Gordon Bennett was top man." PurpleCanary 6,391 Posted March 9, 2012
''it could be Captain Evelyn Barclay''Hooray !
I don''t want to be picky, but was Captain Barclay ever a director of the club? That he was a vice-president doesn''t mean he sat on the board.

Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 9, 2012 Gary Sargent would be one of the players Purple is getting at, I guess. One substitute appearance in 1971.

Although there was also a Charles Sargeant who played 13 games in the early 1930s.

Lets be aving you! 0 Posted March 9, 2012 Interesting slant, BroadstairsR, but not sure you''ve quite got the idea. Perhaps just a tad more cryptic. (Though personally I''d say Michael Chopra).
