Please Don't Play Hucks Upfront (Again)

Recommended Posts

Ok so its been said a million times (maybe more) Hucks is not effective as an out and out striker. His poor finishing wastes the chances we create, surely he should adopt that sort of position that created the three goals in the last 10 minutes against boro.

Now that we have two battling central midfielders surely we can give the defence the extra cover required to give Hucks a free role.

Sadly you''re right, from what I''ve seen Ashton and Hucks have formed a decent partnership but he can''t keep missing those kind of chances. He''s had about 3 or 4 in the same position this season and none have tested the keeper. Had those have gone in then we''d be reasonably comfortable and probably still in the FA cup

The only place to play Hux IMO is just behind two strikers, in the free role. There the onus is not on him to take the chances but to create the chances.

Safri and Francis tucking in just behind Hux should give the team the protection for Hux to go roaming. Tied to the left or playing as an out-and-out striker is just too limiting and he''s a master of neither trades.

Don''t get me wrong, I love the guy to bits but until he''s released from the various shackles that are limiting his play, we won''t see the best of him.

No Hucks should of course play up front - he''s not good enough to play a midfield role, and we can''t afford the luxury.

He needs to play up front til he finds form.

Templeton, i would play Mckenzie alongside shton with Hucks just behind the front two. He may not be banging in the goals this season, but i think he could have finished the chances that hucks was presented with, and if he gets given as many chances as hucks got then he''ll put one in eventually. Mckenzie is just as lively and causes problems for the defence, and he''ll get on the end of Ashton''s knock-ons.

Sorry FV, but I don''t believe that there''s room enough in our team for TWO players that can''t take their chances. We need one who can, and then a strong midfield.

I was going to post this same topic earlier but thought it better not to go over old ground. However, now we''re there. I say, "Oi! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" His natural position is to drift left which leaves either one person in the middle for a ball through/over or Damo with a lot of ground to cover- not helpful on last night''s quagmire.

It''s a question of  having a lighter weight midfield vs creating more chances and at the mo we need to create as many chances as we can.

Another thing, since we went back to 4-4-2, Jonson seems to be concentrating too much on the defensive side of things. It would be good to find a way of releasing him to get him attacking again. As someone said, judging by the way he celebrates our goals, seems so gutted at the ones we concede, I can''t wait to see what happens when he scores!

Don''t hold your breath MPR.

Rear ends of cows, and string instruments commonly found in Country and Western music spring to mind whenever I see him about to shoot.

I thik bananaman was talking about Leon taking a chance.

It was a dire game last night and once good chances alone we deserved a point - however as usual we have missed the ones we had.

However this actually shows that we must KEEP Hux up front with Ashton.   Before the boro games we had only scored something like 5 goals in 9 games  and what was worse was that we did not even miss any chances - we simply werent creating any.  At the same time we were conceeding goals at more than 2 a game and part of this was down to HUx being the wide left midfielder and causing US defencive problems.

Since Hux has been with Ashton we at least have some chances to miss, with both Ashton and Hux culpable last night (what next Ashton for central midfield coz he didnt finish either?)  Hux best 45 mins in months was in the first half against boro - not when he was pushed wide again.

Who is the best partner for ashton?  It can not be Leon, Sven would be better but Hux simply creates so much more than either of then when at the head of the pitch  - OK we (hux and others) cant finish for toffee but eventually we will find the back of the net - and more frequently with HUx alongside Ashton than Leon thats for sure.

Totally agree ZLF

Hux and Ashton up front gives most creative options, 442 without Hux as part of the midfield (and also now Podge Mulryne has disappeared - that''s his final opportunity gone imo) makes us look more solid, and Leon as a substitute to run around creating mayhem if we''re chasing the game.

People in their right roles/positions I think it''s called.
