Public Enemy Number 1 in your world maybe... out in the real world I have plenty of friends and anybody who has approached me in real life to ask if I am Smudger has had pretty much nothing but good things to say.

You really must get over that inferiority complex of yours Mustachio dear boy... May I suggest a sense of humour would help??? [:P]

No you would rather live in your REAL WORLD where the vast majority of City fans would be happy with spending two years down in this division, plus another couple of years before we can even start to compete in a league where we should always be able to compete near the top of wouldn''t you?

The seven year Master Plan.........

I heard that the Norwich dressing room was a portacabin and that fans nearbye could hear Lamberts half time severe bollacking of the players, would have  been  a prettty firey place to be I imagine, great to have a manager who demands respect and who the players respond to.

What I said on another thread was that McNally has a seven year plan to take us from League One to a sustainable position in the Premiership.

Yes, I am happy with that.  Not because I do not want us to be in the Prem as soon as possible but because anyone with half a brain can see that a team that climbs too quickly also comes down again.   Billy Davies is right.   Forest would get massacred in the Prem if they get promoted as in some ways they are still a League One team adapting to the Champ.

In the real world, growth is consolidated.  Many on here feel that some of our players (and in a few poster''s minds most if not all of our players) will not perform in the Champ.  Actually, I disagree.  I think that our present squad would be lower Champ level but would survive there.  To be promoted it needs strengthening.  That takes money and time.   And in the Champ we are competing with some very good sides as well as at least two Prem standard teams seeking to bounce back

And we all know how hard it is to stay in the Prem.  Do you really think we or indeed any team not funded by a billionaire could be a Bolton, much less a Villa or an Everton in less than three seasons?

So, you stay in your real world by all means but don''t expect me to greet you warmly and congratulate you on your contributions to this board.

What you said was 2 years to get us out of League One; and you are happy with that as part of a grand plan! If we have another season in this league you can forget ideas about sustainable growth, prudence, consolidation and all the rest of it, our club will be a corpse. We should be setting ourselves targets that challenge the Board to invest or find investment now so that our first season in the Championship is not spent in the doldrums but challenging for a top 6 place.

I thoughht afterwards that I should have made that point clearer because some one who had not been paying attention at the time would pick it up.   Actually, that was what David McNally said at the start of the season.  Given where we were then, a reasonable approach.  Reread the board last summer.  A lot of posters thought that we were here for a couple of seasons.  I certainly was not banking on promotion at the first attempt though admittedly largely because of my uncertainty about Gunn as a manager.  Of course, we know now that McNally was also uncertain.

That Lambert has moved us forward so dramatically is wonderful but hardly predictable last August.

If you really think that we will go straight through the Champ and make it in the Prem then fine.  I would love that to happen.  I think Lambert could do it.  It is not much of a plan though.

In business, plans should be challenging but realistic and achievable.

I would be happy to spend two years in this league if the end result was a secure Everton like Prem club in 7 years.   Sooner the better but later is better than never.

I really don''t see what any City fan with half a brain and a desire to see the club succeed at the highest level would actually find to disagree with in this psot.  No doubt you will enlighten me.

the man has done wonders , i would be happy for our team to be able to compete in the championship .

rome was not built in a day ,and at present we dont have the money .this poor club has been dragged down the last few seasons ,and our first port of call is to make sure this man signs a new contract at the end of the season after promotion and then move forward .

Hey Smudger,

Given the boring candidates that are likely to stand for Norwich North this summer, I think you could win that seat on behalf of the green  and yellow army. You dont have to live there, blimey Charles Clarke was parachuted into Norwich South from London and one of the Norfolk Taliban conservative seats has got another Londoner.

Go for it Smudger and pi$$ off Mustachio!

Consolidation as the declared aim this summer would have had NCFC. in the lower mid table of this division until McNally and Lambert got to work.

Presumably you mean long term growth with some consolidation in The Championship on the way?

[/quote]Absolutely spot on yet again TFIY... [Y]What is it they say?  Reach for the stars and if you are lucky you may fall somewhere inbetween???By being conservative with our ambition we are likely to come crashing down to earth (or the 3rd Division as it is known).  It seems that those who are happy with a 7 year plan would be happy with another year at this level, or struggling in the Championship next season.  Those of us with a better grasp of reality can see that will point towards a standstill in the clubs progress at best. All the teams that have been successful in any league do not look over their shoulders, but they keep a focus on how things can be improved on the field at their club.NCFC is as BIG as it wants to be... yet many of it''s fans are quite happy to see it scracthing around at little higher than the level we are currently at.

Absolutely.  We grow and consolidate before moving to the next level.    Should Forest win promotion they will be slaughtered next season.   I would love us to go straight through the Championship but promotion the season after next with a good solid Champ season behind us to find out just how good many of our players are would probably leave us better able to cope in the Premiership
