Reasons to be happy

Recommended Posts

I got slated by my mate for being so happy after the Brentford game on Saturday. He argued that Norwich should be topping the league (as it''s effectively the third division) and easily beating sides like Brentford at home. He added that the fact that I was so happy about it reflects how low my expectations have been set by the failings of the club.

Now even allowing for the fact that he''s a generally miserable get at the best of times I think he''s missing the point. Whilst it''s great to be winning matches and topping the league there are far more reasons to be excited....

1) Paul Lambert - faultless so far in his time as manager. Has built a winning mentality, get''s performances from his players week in / week out, acknowledges the fans, admits when he''s wrong, uses subs and tactics to influence the game. Faultless!

2) Feel good factor - the atmosphere at Carrow Road on Saturday was awesome. We still fill the stadium every week and going to Carrow Road is a pleasure again. I don''t care if it''s Man United or Brentford....to win a game with 10 men in front of a full-house is always going to send me home happy.

3) The holy trinity - Grant, Chris and Wes. Not since Hucks was in his prime have we seen such stand-out performances. Players to actually get you out of your seat when they''re on the ball. Heroes!

4) Lack of loans - how many faceless / nameless nothing players have put on our beloved colours over the last few years? Here for one month, one week, or just til half-time!? Good riddance. We''ve now got players who are committed to the club and the future of the club.

5) McNally - Doncaster''s stand-out achievement seems to be answering our emails. Maybe if he had been running the club better instead of doing that we wouldn''t be in this league. At last we have a chief exec who is focussed on delivering success on the pitch.

6) Pride - I''m proud to be a City fan again. I''ll always love the club but the debacles on and off the pitch of the last few years made it a laughing stock and an easy target.

Can anyone add to this? - so that after we beat Hartlepool (hopefully) on Saturday I can shut up my ''glass half-empty'' mate!

We have to believe, clearly as the players do.Did we capitulate when we were away from home on a cold Tuesday night playing on a ploughed field, our talisman top scorer and captain missing and we went a goal down? No, we didn''t.And that, for me, is the reason that we will be fine.[:)]

The whole "we should be winning this league" argument is starting to bug the hell out of me. Regardless of our illustrious past we ARE a Third Division club, not a Premier team accidentally placed here . We have no more right to win this league than any other club in it, and the sooner people like your mate swallow their superiority complex and start to appreciate just what Lambert, McNally and the players are doing for us the better. The past is gone but with this set up we could have a very bright future, so let''s enjoy the ride.

I think, Stevo, that if your mate can''t enjoy it for what it is then what''s the point of being a football supporter? If he doesn''t appreciate the turnaround and what a fantastic achievement it is so far getting us to the top of the table when you look at where we were, and the fact we''ve won 13 of our last 15 games (an extraordinary run at any level), then there''s no hope for him frankly.

Agreed Beaus!

This is the third season Leeds have been in this league. Maybe they''re still a Premier team who have been accidently placed there. But we are there because we deserve to be. We went down on merit, if you like! But we are top on merit now! If we get out of this league at the first attempt then it''s an achievement. Make no mistake about that. Just ask Forest and leeds.

Agree with all your comments. I''m just so impressed with the turnaround and how everything at every level seems to be done properly under the ''new'' regime.

As I said, my mate is a grumpy sod who seems to enjoy it more when we fail as it gives him something to moan about. Encouraging that others on here are of the same opinion as myself though

We can only beat the teams in our fixture list! So be happy about that.

Who''s to say what would happen against Championship clubs. I think we would stand a good chance against at least 50% of them.

Yeah I am. Don''t get me wrong, the 2-0 win against Rooney et al is more exciting and satisfying but the point I was trying to make is that I would rather see a City team, playing well, with our own contracted players, in front of a full stadium and great atmosphere than what we''ve had over the last few seasons......dross.

That matters more to me than who the opposition are. If I just went to Carrow Road to see other team''s star players, I may as well stay in the pub and watch Sky

I agree totally with Beauseant, i feel for too many years now City fans have just expected... It''s like when we came down from the Prem our fans assumed we would automatically bounce back up with no fuss.... Some football fans dont understand how damaging a relegation is to a football club mentally, let alone financially. Look at Leeds this is there third attempt to gain promotion back to the Championship. So if we are to gain automatic promotion the management and the players deserve every accolade the receive!!
